Great reaction and great song! There are some comments already about the song but if you want to know more about what happened at the time especially with The Chicks check out the documentary that they did called ‘’Shut Up and Sing’’. It shows everything they went through from the time they were in London until making the album ‘Taking The Long Way’ and releasing it. It was quite a journey to say the least.

I love the Chicks. I had the privilege of seeing them in person before they made it big and have been a huge fan of theirs ever since. One of my favorite songs of theirs is Traveling Soldier. PS, I also did not consider GWB my president.

Their voices and music are amazing! Seeing them live, it's just as perfect. You might like their cover of, "Landslide," (Fleetwood Mac) and if you want a bit of lighthearted fun filled with the fiddle music, give "Sin Wagon" a try. If you want another serious, impactful one, give, "March, March" a listen - it needs to be the video, though. It was written after the death of George Floyd (an unarmed Black man killed by police while in their custody that sparked demonstrations and protests all over the US in 2020) and addresses discrimination of all kinds. It's a controversial one, though, so if you decide to air it, just understand you may be stepping into some unpleasant comments. Watch it for yourself, if nothing else. It is full of passion and emotion.

Probably one of my favs of theirs easy. Not sure why folks think this was about Toby, the Dixie Chicks got "canceled" and their lives torn apart after Natalie made a remark about President Bush. Back in the day, a simple stupid remark about, say a President, could ruin your career and life...being it specific to "Texas" didn't help. Now days, you can hell be a big star and compare the "President to Hitler" and barely get a side glance...oh yeah if your Hank Jr. What these women and their families were put through was so over the top insanely ridiculous. Lots of great other tracks of theirs you should check out.

They became 'The Chicks' because the controversy the derailed their career. They were at a concert in London and Natalie made the statement that she was ashamed that she was from the same state as President Bush in 2003. It created a wildfire that instantly went out of control. Radio stations stopped playing their music, concert sales went down, people burned and crushed CDs on the news. They received vile fan mail. It was not as much what she said but the fact that it was outside of the country. At least for people that I knew that were upset about it. I think it was uncalled for because ahe has a right to her opinion as does everyone else. However at the same time i believe she said in a concert outside of the US for a reason. She knew the response she would get in the US would have been for the most part negative if for no other reason than this was less than 2 years after 911. She thought doing it in another country she would get more support. I don't think they expected it to make big news on this side of the pond. Like i said before it was ridiculous that it went so stupidly nuts either way.

That is not why they changed their name to The Chicks. They took Dixie out during the conversations about the systemic racism that exists in the US and it’s roots, imagery, all of that that was sparked after the murder of George Floyd in 2020

I'd just like to set the record straight. They did not go overseas simply to criticize Bush. The Dixie Chicks were on a European concert trip, and our impending invasion and war with Iraq was on everyone's mind. She spoke her mind on the eve of the invasion. It was an unplanned, off the cuff remark.

That's not why they became "The Chicks." They'd reclaimed their trajectory at that point. The name change was a more recent decision based on not wanting to be associated with "whistlin' Dixie" after the murder of George Floyd.

The gals were in Europe & made the mistake of saying they were ashamed George Bush was from their state of Texas, because of the mess in Afghanistan. Country fans flipped out that they criticized the President, while in another country. Radio stations stopped playing their music etc. They were basically blacklisted for a few years. This was their comeback song. They still have many fans, like me, but many other people are still ticked at them.

Given that pretty much every single Texan has gone to Trump style pacifism and is against most any war imaginable the Chicks have actually been proven right by history so why is she still mad? Bush Cheney policies do not sell anywhere in the Lone Star State.

These guys were spectacularly cancelled and Toby Keith led the charge lol. It was really terrible what people did to them. Particularly Natalie, because she's the one who said it. All she said: she was ashamed to be from the same state as the sitting president of that time, George Bush. Apparently, according to Toby, that comment was anti-american. They did come back with this reply.. this video, a wonderful Grammy performance.. to refute the public displays of violence towards them. Yes, her life really was threatened. People should learn how not to behave, but they have not. So, Tracy Chapman is enjoying a resurgence of her music, via Luke Combs doing a remake of her song, Fast Car.. she's got a no 1 hit, again. The Dixie Chicks did the same thing.. when they took Stevie Nicks song Landslide and remade it, right into a country song. For the longest time, I liked their version better then the original but I"m back to loving Stevie's version of her song, the best. I would recommend you listen and watch that video from The Chicks. Landslide.

FYI A lot of the hatred towards The Dixie Chicks that led to this song was fuelled by your beloved Toby Keith. A girl I know who went on Toby’s tour bus to hook up with him after a show in 2004 (yes Toby cheated on his wife all the time) around the time when all this happened said Toby called them “the fat one”, “the ugly one” and I don’t remember what he called the last one

They didn’t defame Toby Keith. It was 2003 and at an oversees concert Natalie basically said they were ashamed of President Bush and the Iraq invasion. This didn’t jive with Toby and his boot in your ass brand of patriotism. The country music world as a whole lost their minds. I always felt the forgot that one of the freedoms our troops fight and die for is freedom of speech - including Natalie’s

I love the Dixie Chicks and have since their first album. When Natalie made those comments at their concert they were doing in France I believe after news broke of the US invading Iraq when George W Bush was President she and the Chicks were vilified and hated on by so many fans of Country music and Toby Kieth ( God rest his soul ) told them, but of course Natalie specifically to "Shut up and sing". Country radio refused to play their music and thousands of fans brought CD's of the Chicks to parties where they burned or otherwise destroyed them. One of our major rights as citizens of the US is the right to Freedom of speech even if that speech goes against what our government espouses on a given situation. The critics claimed it was not what she said, but the fact that she said it in a foreign country. The whole of Country music made a massive mistake with what they did to the Chicks, but they also NEVER apologized when ALL the crap our government made up for excuses to invade Iraq and topple Sadam's government came out and Natalie was proven right. We NEVER had any reason to invade Iraq and we were the cause of major death of Iraqi people and American soldiers. All because George W Bush wanted to get Sadam because he apparently attempted to kill George Bush and W could not stand that. I love my country as a citizen of the USA and I do believe we are the greatest country in the world, but we are far from perfect.

I will say this is a great song, but they deserved all they got. You are an entertainer, and I don't want to hear your political views. They are very talented, and it is a shame that Natalie couldn't keep her mouth shut and keep their music in the forefront. As far as her FTK (f*** Toby Keith) shirt that's when I lost all respect for her.

They deserved death threats for stating a political opinion? You're the problem here. This song is about you and about anyone else who had this type of reaction. TK spouted his political opinions all over his music and outside of it, he just happened to be a conservative. Why didn't he just shut up and sing?

Never heard this. It must have come recently. At least since their unfair cancellation over calling Bush Jr. a warhawk. Imagine someone trying to convince people its the Republicans that are war hungry TODAY. It would never fly. We all know democrat power comes at the cost of American lives. They demonstrate it daily. But.....because this is a music reaction. Let me just add. This song.......is terrible. Its one of the most boring, lamebrained songs since Uninvited by Alanis Morrisette. Or ANYTHING from Taylor Swift. Any awards won should be returned with a personal apology for performing such an awful tune.
