Could the balancer slipping cause the car to feel like it’s down on power ?
@BREW2LFOXBODY4 жыл бұрын
No, sorry I didn’t explain that the best I guess. If the balancer has spun you just won’t be able to get an accurate timing reading. Because of that if you try to set the timing with it being spun there is a good chance you’ll be off your mark causing the car to possibly run bad. The main issue with a balancer that has slipped is the fact of it causing an imbalance in the engine, prematurely wearing main bearings.

10 degrees is supposed to be stock. I ran my GT at 13 for years with no issues - where it sits now still. My LX is at 14 and it seems to like it there, I figured why not. Supposedly every 1 degree you add is worth about 5 HP. As for marking the balancer, what worked best for me was white paint line on the edge of the pointer and white paint marking on 10 and my desired timing mark. Perfect view of what I needed to see with the timing light.

Hey, went over to a buddy who is working on his new Windsor, he has a "bolt" he screwed into the spark plug hole. You turn the motor until it stops and mark the damper, then turn it all the way back till hit stops. The point in between is real top dead center, and you can do it to verify your pointer is correct and balancer as well. You ever used on of those?

Hey I always watch your videos all the time and I am a subscriber I had a couple of questions my first question is the timing light that you have I have the same one I’m pretty sure you got it from Harbor freight when you sent your timing do you use the dial at all and if you do or don’t where do you set it at question number 2 when I try to set my timing I take out the plug out of the spout and then I would get it to 10° but my timing keeps bouncing around and then when I put the chip back into the spout it shoots up to 20° after top dead center I don’t know what could that be but I checked the TPS it’s at 98 and the idle speed is at under 1000 RPM I forgot to mention this the car is a 1986 GT bone stock
@jonpierce734 Жыл бұрын
Your GT sounds like it should be running fine. Maybe try 14 degrees instead of 10. If the timing keeps jumping up and down try idling up just a little and recheck. Hope that helps.

Hey man! Been starting to watch your vids and they have all been very helpful. I just got my first fox 2 weeks ago from a buddy that gave it to me. It’s having some idling issues. While idling the rpm bounces slightly up and down. Then when I accelerate it bogs a little before being able to go up all the way to higher rpms. I was wondering what are some of the big things I should be checking for this issue? Also it’s killing my battery if I leave it connected when the car is off! Super weird also

So I think I have an issue with my distributor. I think that it could be going bad. I would say the most prominent symptom is that the motor clears up under hard acceleration but at idle and low cruising spring The car bucks misfires and just runs like pure shit.
