@@APsychicMonkey I really don't think so. James Gunn doesn't live in a vacuum. He's not the be all-end all of DCU. You need to consider the other variables for these films. First of all, the new Discover Warner CEO specifically said he wanted a full reboot of the DCU. sorry but I don't think Gal Gadot is coming back (anything you heard is probably just rumor). With that said, they had all these other movies finished or partly finished and waiting to be released. Batgirl being the exception to pulling the plug on a movie, I don't think they wanted to take the hit on more than one film, so instead of taking a full loss, they took the route of recouping their losses. Now is it really a crime to endorse a movie. Maybe the guy really enjoyed both films like I really enjoyed both films. Flash and Blue Beetle were great in my opinion. I don't think audiences are too enthused to waste their money every weekend on a film this summer, and they were more selective. They waited for the movie they wanted to see instead of seeing them all. As for Henry Cavill, again, its not James Gunn's call (if you heard anything else about it, again probably just rumor from the internet) The Discovery Warner CEO specifically said he wanted a full reboot. That means no more Ben Afflect, No More Cavill, No More Gadot, No More Ezra Miller. We got one more Snyderverse film to get out of the tank and that's Aquaman, and after that, no more Jason Momoa. If you heard anything else, then that is just you listening to the rumor mill.

One of them is a Supergirl movie based on a comic (in which SG is apparently reimagined as a foul mouthed drunkard) that almost no one is familiar with. And Gunn is unlikely to reverse the kind of mistakes that WB has made in dooming movies that SHOULD have grossed a lot of money. Maybe he'll inject some of the GOG spunk into the DC universe, but it might not be enough.

I really think we're going to see studios abandoning the superhero genre altogether, mainly due to a lot of incompetence, but the fatigue is real. I've heard the movie itself is okay, but not great. That's definitely not good enough to get people to the theatre.

Blue Beetle was originally slated for HBO Max exclusive but then figured it was good enough for theatrical. So they didn't spend much on this with no big name stars. Rumor is it was only $100M and no marketing so they only need about $200M to break even and even that is gravy as it was intended for HBO Max. So if it can make $200M it's already earned back its budget. But it did get good reviews from critics and fans so could do Black Adam money and make $400M. You just can't predict what movies will be a hit.

It will be a massive global flop. I'm in Malaysia, and when I checked the availability of seats for various movies at 4-5 nearby cinemas to see what I can catch on a Friday, guess what - in every single cinema, the Blue Beetle screenings were totally empty. Not a single seat taken up.

This movie is not even shown in Australia. The good news is Sound of Freedom will be showing this coming 24 August. Different directors will all have their own 'take' of various superheros, and they wont always be popular with all the fans. But each time you roll the dice you're gambling that enough fans will like the 'new take'. What Warner have done is, having discovered a version of their universe that had a fan base sufficient to deliver profits (the Snyderverse), decided to roll the dice again.

DCU fucked themselves with mediocre movies, and these movies get streamed 2 months later. Movie theaters are a luxury, and right now money is tight for people.
