Most of the snare line don't even have their index finger on the stick sometimes. I was always taught to keep that finger on at all times. Is there any benefit to taking it off sometimes?
@rngrs2k1794 жыл бұрын
Shmimmie_San Less tension in the front of the hand (and what you see a lot of drumset players do) and personally I don’t even use the pointer, and by doing so I’ve shifted my fulcrum closer to the back of the hand and it encourages more use of the back fingers
@Kamii_o4 жыл бұрын
@@rngrs2k179 Woah that's some good info to absorb thanks for telling me
@malditobandito984 жыл бұрын
Shmimmie_San Top comment pretty much answered it. I also drop my index finger when I jump on a set of quads. I remember my old high school drum tech telling me that if she was to lose her index finger, she’d still be able to play just fine with 4 fingers. I recommend trying it to see how it changes your approach :)

It's not an intentional "look" in any means. When this staff was at bk, they loved to talk a lot about the overall usage of the whole hand, and how we can apply all appropriate muscle groupings to the sound. The openness you see in the hands is simply just us allowing the fulcrum point to breathe, and to allow the stick to vibrate. It's not a thing we do intentionally. It can just sometimes come with the relaxation

Fun fact: Mike Jackson started at Blue Knights, but then in 2016 he basically founded Broken City. So technically, Broken City has the exercises as Blue Knights, because BK was first

@@Tn0213 The exercise is cool, but are the benefits of that really worth the time it took to clean?
@Tn02134 жыл бұрын
This is a great question man! I totally see where you're coming from. It was never about cleaning it. It was something we learned and put together in literally 10 minutes. The purpose and intent of that exercise was to be used as a rehearsal warmup to wake up the ears for the day. We never used it in public, etc. It was extremely beneficial and helpful for allowing our ears to find our unison blend to help kick off the day. We used it all summer! Just behind the scenes. Helped a ton!
@Prof.CheeseDog4 жыл бұрын
@@Tn0213 that's interesting. Yeah I should have known it would be easy for a group like the blue knights to execute something like that. Damn I wish drum corps wasn't cancelled right now
