For the different rank points, it depends on MMR. If the diamond player has a high MMR or the other players around your current rank have very similar MMRs, you might jump up more spots than if the lower ranked Mythic player has a lower MMR than the Diamond player (who knows, he could come in at Mythic 50 when he gets out of Diamond) or if the gap between each player above you is larger.

ranks are decided by MMR points. if you have a lot of MMR points but are still in Diamond, you'll more likely to be placed against Mythic players (or when you are in Mythic but have low MMR points you'll see diamond players more often). same goes for how many ranks you climb/fall when facing opponents. a rank doesn't specifically show how many MMR points a player has. at least that's what I was told sometime ago. I myself haven't really investigated this whole MMR points vs ranking stuff, so don't take this for 100% correct.

Pretty sure it has more to do with how many people are playing the queue. If no one is playing standard, you're more likely to be paired against a large difference in rank simply due to wait time. If no one is close to rank, you just get paired with whoever is available to keep wait time down.

@@literallysomedudeliterally9470 I mean.. yes obviously you won't get paired to someone who currently isn't playing the game... but there is definitely a system behind the pairings besides "who is currently playing". and if you actually search this up, MMR points are a thing & people have numerously reported that they have spans on different days where they get paired with really low/high ranking opponents. but as I said, I haven't researched this in detail, just got the MMR point explanation from a couple different people. and it would make sense.

At 43:22 you ask about the ranking system in mythic, here's an explanation: What you see is your rank, not your points, as such, if the people between rank 70 and rank 50 were very close to each other in "points", it is possible for you to get 20 ranks with a win, but only 4 with the next as maybe rank 39 is a few wins ahead

hey CGB. which is the best way to "farm" crafting cards? is it just acquiring packs for 1000 gold, or should I focus on certain draft events? ty very much man, really appreciate your strategies!

For now, just farm gold with events and getting 4 wins daily and completing quests (but if you get a 500gold quest, cycle it and ignore 500 gold quests unless you have 3 quests.) once quick draft is available for zendikar (2 wks after release) do quick drafts making sure to pick rares that come up that you dont have 4 of. Youll get packs from doing drafts, but dont open ANY packs until you have enough to finish the rares in the set (generally thats around 80-100 packs, but it depends how many unique rares you get in your drafts.) the reason you wait is that packs have duplicate protection, but you get more rares for your gold by doing drafts (drafts dont have dupe protection). It usually takes me 6 or 7 weeks into an expansion to get rare complete, and once youve done it for a couple expansions, you’ll have enough wildcards to craft some stuff from a new set without worrying that you’re wasting any. For example, i play to 4 wins a day (that’s where the daily wins money starts to drop off) and have rare completed theros ikoria and m21, and have 40+ rare WCs and 15 mythic WCs ready for zendikar. I am a f2p player, so this is a huge advantage for me playing arena vs mtgo or paper - i get to make any deck in standard, and still have WCs if i want to make historic decks! The other tip i have is to ignore ranked once youre above platinum and farm standard or historic bo1 events with a decent aggro deck

I guess it is similar to League of Legends MMR. You are actually at rank #40. Every time you win a match you gain some unknown quantity of points and then you have your score compared with ppl above you. If there's a big gap between you and the next rank, then you probably won't rank up to much whereas if the gap isn't too big, you'll rank up way more. Sorry for the gigantic possible explanation

So for why you ranked up more against diamond guy, I believe everyone has a number of accumulated points in the background including those who aren’t in mythic, and those points are based on win % and the level of opponents you play. That diamond guy likely hasn’t played that much, but has a high background “point” score that would put him in high mythic if he actually made it there, making beating him more valuable than someone in mythic but with less background “points”
