My clover leaf trap still catches tons of small bluegill & sunfish perfect size for catfish & or Bass. Best bait trap I've ever owned. Thanks Mike.

Another great video! Keep 'em coming! I've watched the older video about using the traps with and without bait and was totally amazed. Never thought an unbaited trap could catch perch. I used to use cat food tins (punch holes in the top/bottom) but this always made a stinking mess in the back of the truck and/or boat. Thanks for the videos!

Thanks Cooter! I sincerely appreciate the comment. To be honest, I wasn't sure that folks would watch content like this as I didn't want it to come off as a sales pitch. However, I need to get some more videos up to have a place to send folks whenever they have questions. Typing out the emails over and over is very time-consuming, so having a bunch of videos for folks is the approach I'm taking. Anyhow, thanks again, man... and definitely try your trap without bait next time. If you see that it's not catching like it should... then clean it off and use a can of silver spray paint to make it shiny again... it will start catching again without bait. Pro tip for you there. =) Stay safe buddy!

Few questions? I build traps here in the Midwest, I’ve always used cage clips and a hand tool. I’m seeing your air gun there in the table, is that a hog ring gun? I’m looking to speed up my building process. I appreciate your video and any help you can offer!

Hey mike, I've recently found and subscribed to your channel. Awsome informative content, really helpful information! I have a question with regards to making fish traps, I live in Peru in the Amazon rainforest and have been fishing a lake for wolf fish.. So I've decided to make myself a 4 leaf clover trap to get my bait. What would you say yields better results, this or the 4 leaf? Also, i don't know if you have wolf fish in Texas, but is there a trap design that you could recommend for potentially trapping them? I suppose they are similar to snakeheads in some respect.

Hey man! I am so sorry for the late reply. I actually did not get a notification and just happened to stumble upon your comment. Again, my sincere apologies. I am not familiar with wolf fish, so I had to look them up... pretty crazy looking little fish! For trapping them, I think you'd be best going with that cloverleaf trap you built. The Z-Traps work excellent, but the clovers have an advantage on holding the bait centrally in the trap. Those wolf fish look like something you need to bait to draw in (my guess), so I think I would start with the clover first. I hope this helps some, and please let me know how you do with it. Again, so sorry for the very delayed reply. Have a great day, buddy!

Hi Mike I really injoy yo videos, but I want the size brims that I can eat, do u make the z traps big enough to catch bigger brims
@ReelTexasOutdoors
@ReelTexasOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Caroline Burdette - hi there. Thanks for the question. Yes ma’am, we can modify traps for larger bream. It’s not so much the size of the trap as it is the entry points. Larger bream need about a 4.5 to 5 inch long entry point for them to enter the trap. The problem is that in most public water the entry points need to be approximately 1 in x 3 in for it to be legal. If you plan to use the trap in private water, then we can make the entry points larger for the big bream with no issue. I hope this info helps, and please feel free email me at mike@reeltexasoutdoors.com if you have any other questions. Thanks!

No rush.... we’ll be here when you’re ready. Thank you again, ma’am. God bless.

nice . what size fish is this for ?
@ReelTexasOutdoors
@ReelTexasOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy, thanks for the comment. Bait fish size is determined by the size of the entry points on the trap. The legal "average" for most states is about 1'' x 3''... which equates to about a 3-4 inch bluegill. If you're using it in private waters though, then you can get the openings cut larger and catch much larger bait. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again!

instead of using the wire grid with the 1 inch holes going vertically.... turn it 90 degrees so that the half inch holes go vertically.... i mean... maybe a fish might try to swim horizontally to escape but... i dont think so. laymens terms. the walls of your trap have the 1 inch holes on the wire going up and down. why ? fish are tall , not wide. turn the walls so that the wire runs half inch tall holes and 1 inch wide holes. i doubt most 1 inch fish will swim horizontally to escape.
@ReelTexasOutdoors
@ReelTexasOutdoors Ай бұрын
Good idea. However, the traps are cut the way they are to save wire and time cutting/assembling the traps. If I were to cut the wire in a manner that made the mesh run horizontally, I would have to use a ton more wire, make more cuts, and use more time to build one. It's just not efficient to build one this way, unfortunately. However, it's a non issue now as we make traps out of 1/2 x 1/2 heavy gauge wire also.
