Thermal Rifle Setups for Hunting Humans

Today I'll be going over several thermal rifle setups which I believe could be an asset on the modern battlefield.
Recently I've started to open my eyes on the benefit thermal devices can have when it comes to fighting against a near peer adversary, especially after seeing how effective they have been in this current war in Ukraine.

You should look up the channel ViktoriousDead if you haven't. He hasn't done land nav yet but he primarily goes into the practical stuff about how to conduct partisan style activities. Ambushes, surveillance, maintaining medical practices without a proper logistics chain, etc.

Couldn’t agree, absolute must have and game changer capability. Looking forward to the dedicated video on clip on variants. I think they are superior, especially if you run something like a 1.7-10 like me. What often gets overlooked is that you really need a wide angle thermal handheld for spotting on top. Waiving a rifle around that has a field of view of 15 yards at a 100 yards is just silly

Hell yeah, thermal is overkill for hunting animals imo. My thermal scope is a pulsar thermion 2 XP50 pro. I like it a lot. Also have a thermal monocular for general spotting.

I had the same exact problem with that Midwest mount. I tried taking the whole thing apart to re align it with no luck. First time I've had a problem with a Midwest Industries product.

I have a rh25 clip on and have been playing around with a t2 and magnifier on the new spuhr mount. 3x is the sweet spot for the rh25 and a Wilcox fts mount keeps me from dedicating a rifle to just thermal.

Been running the acog and the wraith mini thermal from sight mark. Bith on quick DQ set ups. Easy to swap and easy to pack around. These are the optics for my 11.5 Ar with supressor

Thermal is king. NODS are for operation teams- not home defense.

Not if you're in asymmetrical warfare. Both is king. Nods are good for all night and accomplishing tasks. Thermals for scanning between.

Sig cross is an excellent hunting rifle as well, the ability to fit a rifle inside my pack vs strapped to the side is life changing because my area is so thick with vegetation. Thinking about getting a 300 wsm barrel for mine to make the ultimate mountain rifle

Thermals do work very well. OIF 1n2 used one on an m4 as a mk19 gunner. Full tracer mag and IR laser, which helped other gunners get on targets. We couldn't see with the tvs5s very well while moving. Especially going 35-45 mph. 50 cals had thermals but again you need help lining up shots so we usually free gunned. Those thermal batteries died quickly back then so I had to go between PVS 14, thermal, and battery swaps. Plus the gunner and truck commander had to be ready to give up our nods to the driver if his nods died driving Black Out. Dismounted with the thermal you should still wear nods, I almost got kicked in the face by a donkey between scanning with the thermal, hearing my team freak out, and I followed after dodging the donkey blind but slipped in a ditch and got mud all the way up the barrel. No bueno.

I have been thinking of putting one of the law folder knock off buffer tube adapters on my bolt action chassis rifle, I just dont know if it would hold up to .308 recoil. But hey it might be worth it to get a cheap folding stock on your bolt action.

The proprietary batteries drive me nuts I love my stingIR for battery flexibility being able to run cr123/18350/18650/16650 any thing at 3-3.7v my agm thermal scope i looked at the v2 but the proprietary battery is why I got the original paired with a bat-pack to run 2x16650s and I keep a solar panel in my pack to keep my gear up and running

worth mentioning... it's extremly difficult to identify WHO you are aiming at at night with thermal. your buddies from the village next over sneaking over during SHTF to check in on you...ops you shot your friends.

Who does the Dark Angel helmet in the background belong to? If you want a shorter barrel, considering a different caliber too. 6,5 is best with a long barrel. Maybe a .300blackout or similar short barrel optimized caliber. MDT's LSS chassie works great on a shorter barrel and they offer folding stocks and adapters. Or if weight is a high priority, their HNT26. And they take magpul's aics mags.
