Definitely one of my favorite Band-Maid songs and one that only they can write. So many doors to walk through with this track

"Corallium" moves between lines of despair/longing and frenetic energy. (The music is always complete before lyrics are written) Saike Atsumi (lead vocals) wrote the lyrics about the ocean (which she fears) and stated that to her love is like an ocean. So what I hear is drowning/being overcome in the longing parts and swimming for survival in the frenetic parts. Thanks for the reaction!

Thanks for the reaction and comments. You have a good ear for details. This is one of their more progressive composition to date. Kanami flexes her creative muscles and pushes the boundaries of what these ladies are capable of…this is a song that fans of Stravinsky, in particular, will appreciate. Cheers!

Let's get this maid reactor to 1K subs! Band-Maid has five members, all of whom can sing. Misa and Akane will deny it, but then you'll see Misa on gang vocals, and Akane sings backup... while drumming... on one of the acoustic set pieces. And while we're at it, Saiki can play a little piano now, and Kanami can really play keys well. She's on the keys for this song in the studio (and they play it as a background track in concert so they can do it live... and well).

A precious red coral is the common name given to a genus of marine corals called Corallium. But I really think it comes from the genius of the precious Band of Maids called Band-Maid! 🪸 Thx, Krishausen!

You are an excellent reactor. This is one of their more recent songs. They have become a bit proggier over time. But this is a masterpiece. One of my favorite Band Maid songs. You might enjoy Giovanni. It is a bit crazy as well.

Yes, I agree on everything. Corallium is my favorite song and Giovanni brings another kind of craziness into the mix. Both such memorable songs for all the best reasons.

Pause as much as you need to, to get your thoughts out. Just please remember to rewind, (which you have been), some other reactors don't do that. they will pause throw their thoughts in, then continue, when their thoughts were about something in the song they heard. However, some of us listeners may not have heard and after pointing it out, we need to hear it again, yet they don't go back to let us hear it. You have been going back, so it's all good. And on the vocals, I'm going to post up part of a file specifically about the vocal capabilities of Miku and Saiki. "Miku the Secondary Lead Vocalist is a Mezzo-Soprano, meaning she can sing lower and higher than Saiki the Primary Lead Vocalist, who is a Contralto/Alto. However Miku doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. I have two different analogies explaining it. The first is audiophile: Miku only has a pre-amp installed, while Saiki has has the pre-amp and amplifier installed. The second is the hose: Take a hose with a screw nozzle, open it up so it covers the largest area, it doesn't spray very far or hard, that is Miku's voice. Tighten up the nozzle and now it can go very far with much more power, but it doesn't cover as wide an area, that is Saiki's voice." Hopefully that went through properly. But Miku the second lead vocalist/backing vocalist can actually sound almost exactly like Saiki the primary lead vocalist, to the point where you would need forensic examination. Miku just doesn't have the same vocal power. In my looking around, I've found that Miku may have had asthma as a kid, and that has affected her lung capacity, hence her vocal power. And on the backing vocals, ALL of the Ladies despite their denials are known to sing backing/gang vocals, plus both Miku and Saiki will layer their vocals, many many many times. There are a few songs where without the backing track, the vocals aren't as rich, yet the songs still sound good. The backing track for Band-Maid is simply a seasoning on top of the song, the main dish of the song will always be good enough that if necessary can be performed without a backing track and still be enjoyed. Unlike some bands, where without the backing track the song is unintelligible. It will include backing vocals, gang vocals, extra instruments like keys, strings, even horns and on a few songs additional guitars and percussion. Yet NEVER does the backing track, become REQUIRED to perform the song. I'm trying to remember both where I read it and who said it, but one member of the band said in an interview that they want to be able to perform a "Serving" anywhere, with just their instruments at any time with minimal setup. That means no computer, no tracks, just them and their instruments. And that idea is the basis of the song writing. Can it be performed without tracks? If no, then it needs to be pared down to where it can be. I think that is what makes Band-Maid's music so relatable to so many of us older fans. We remember going to shows were they didn't HAVE tracks. Just a guitarist, bassist and a drummer, with one or all of them singing and the show rocked out. (Triumph and RUSH if you don't know who I'm referring to)

As usual with some favourite songs- this started off as a slow grower for me. But as I got to hear everything in it- the whole thing for me is now shear genius. I think that this may be the first time saiki wrote the complete lyrics.

Kanami composes the backing tracks on a MIDI keyboard and Misa, Akane, and the vocalists add on to it. Over the years Band-Maid has become quite expert at production. When they play live Band-Maid does use backing tracks, but it never takes the forefront: they always play the major instrumentation live. When they performed "from now on" live, the guitars, bass, and drums are live and exquisitely so, but the MIDI backing track is filling in piano and strings.

Great analysis. Thanks for pausing by the way. I find your disassembly of the song very interesting. One thought on "commercial." (And I await any corrections by more knowledgeable Madiacs.) During their US tour, Miku was clear on her/their ultimate objective. "We want to dominate your hearts with our music." But very clearly, they are doing this on their own terms and are continually evolving. I think most Madiacs are perplexed that such an amazing rock band is not bigger by orders of magnitude, but that said, "commercial" in and of itself does not seem to be an objective of theirs's. Band Maid songs may be more or less appealing to a broad audience, but Band Maid does not trim their sails to get more listeners. (For example, check out "Sense" which initially put off a number of fans.) "Corallium" itself is proof of that. Cheers.

Great reaction. Nice ear. I'm impressed that you seem to be able to maintain some kind of mental continuity about what's going on with a bass line or whatever after pausing and talking about stuff. This is my favorite Band-Maid song out of like 130. I think it's unmatched in terms of sheer musical playfulness, especially with the vocals. It's playful, but they really sound great, too. I'd disagree a little bit with your commentary on the part after that little vocal tag team bit at like 2:16 on the track, that it's built solely around the guitar. In that section, the guitar and the vocalist is basically doing the rhythm role, holding a steady tempo, playing like one note at a time, but the bassist is going nuts playing lead, if you listen for it. You interrupted the most frantic part with a pause, and it's pretty low in the mix, so it's easy to miss. I never really noticed until I watched the bassist isolated on Band-Maid Prime. As for Domination being too commercial, it's one of their mainstays in their live shows, and they're a live band first and foremost. It's got that audience sing along part. At some point, they started adding those, intentionally not in Japanese, and sometimes just as oh oh oh's, la la la's, etc. so anyone can join in. It's certainly not as interesting as Corallium, but their writing is very dense in general, so you'll pick up on more neat stuff on each relisten. They have a nice mix of songs that they play, so you have some anthemic things like Domination or Freedom, and heavier, more technical stuff, more emotional ones, etc. The anthemic ones that they play all the time are good songs, but they're largely just a chance for them to goof off on stage, because they can literally play them with their eyes closed.

Saiki composed the lyrics for this song, her first, if memory is serving me correctly. "Hate?" is the other song Saiki did the lyrics for. Miku usually does the lyrics, but has no problem if other band members lyrics are chosen, no egos in this band!

It depends on reactor. I know Champ would pause because otherwise he would forget what he was going to say. I personally would rather hear his thoughts even if it is more frequent pausing. That is why I am here. He still appreciated the song and I'm sure he will listen on his own.

This song totally crossed the line into prog in my opinion. GIOVANNI is another one. Kanami and Akane can both sing too but this is probably Kanami for the third voice. Best rock band on the planet.

Great reaction and this is one of their more progressive songs. I think Kanami just told everyone to go crazy, then she molded it all together. That picture on the album cover shows a junk pile of all the ideas that Kanami threw out as not meeting her standards.

Now I see that it was a good idea to start with the album version: You needed to focus on the song first. But the live version at Eggman is a must see/listen: What you will get with the live version is (1st) much more Miku vocals / second voice (much better in the mix) and (2nd) the energy Saiki is putting into this song .... she wrote the whole lyrics (not Miku). I have no problems with many pauses: you always have something to say ❤ but I hope that you will sit back and listen to the whole song later on, po 😅

This song? for an anime? This song is way too quirky for an anime, even though their new anime song is also quite out there I have to admit. So...if you like this song more than Domination, GREAT. Their new anime song, showcases everyone in my opinion. There's only short version available at this moment but so many different elements, kind of weird and catchy at the same time. Giovanni is, even though many people prefer the instrumental version, it also showcases the complex vocal melody. I'm not sure how balanced the new album is going to sound, bacause Brightest Star and Magie have the 70s Japanese music/middle eastern influence like the new anime song. I hope thay are going to include something very different from those 3, other than 2 collab songs. Speaking of Balance, please check out their song Balance. I warn you, many people don't like it that much, but it showcases everyone. Very unique. But I love Band-Maid because of their unique note choices, rhythmic playfulness. And, check out Moratoriam (live, if you can find one), I personally find it's also a vocal showcase. The rhythmic sense that Saiki exhibits in this song real really wowed me.
