I have 3 Remington 700 and 1 Winchester Model 70 Pre-64. My smith blueprinted the actions before rebelling. All shot phenomenally. He was an aerospace machinist before becoming a gunsmith. He told me not all custom action are concentric and squared. He named the action makers but I'm not gonna mention it here, but they are the big name in the rifle business.

Yes, I too have worked for aerospace machining corporations. We're obsessed with ultimate precision! I have seen very expensive actions that had unacceptable runout as well. They promptly got refused and sent back. Most of them got replaced, one outfit did not replace the action and said it was within their specifications.

@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations The most accurate rifle in my safe is the Remington 700 Bluepinted by my smith and chambered in 308 Winchester. The closest one to it in accuracy was my 338 Lapua Ackley built by Nathan Dagley of SSG Gunsmithing and third is my 6.5-284 built by Alan Warner of Warner Tool.

Great video! Can you make a video about bolt timing and primary extraction? I was told that the bolt timing on my blueprinted Rem 700 is off, and it is affecting the primary extraction. I don't know much about it, and I would love to learn more about it.
@AccurateRiflesandRestorationsАй бұрын
good suggestion! I'll consider it for sure! For your situation - does the bolt extract a fired case consistently? If so, don't worry about it. If not, it can be remedied. People get wrapped up in technical things that may or may not affect real world situations. It's simply and inclined plane. Unless you're running super hot loads and sticking cases you should be alright. 🤠
@chaddfry5345Ай бұрын
@AccurateRiflesandRestorations The short answer is that it doesn't extract consistently. I need to do some more testing to confirm what is going on. I developed 2 different loads, and one worked great but the other didn't. The rifle is chambered in a tight 7mm Rem Mag match chamber. After some initial testing, I think I'm simply over pressure with the one load. I have 5 rounds that are 2 grs under what I'm currently loading, and I need to fire them and see if I'm still having extraction issues. No other pressure signs other than tough extraction.
@TheScottybr6 күн бұрын
@@chaddfry5345 What is the bullet, bullet weight, powder, powder charge in grains, and cartridge length and I will tell you if you are over pressure per quickload.
@chaddfry53456 күн бұрын
@@TheScottybr I appreciate the offer! I use Gordon's Reloading Tool with custom cartridge inputs because the rifle is chambered with a match 7mm Rem Mag chamber. Initially, I was using the default 7mm Rem Mag inputs with a calibrated model, and the model showed the load was within acceptable pressure limits. But once I updated the chamber dimensions based on the reamer cut sheet the model showed I was over pressure. So, I loaded up 5 rounds with a lower powder charge weight to see if the load is within acceptable pressure limits, and I'll calibrate the model with the updated velocity numbers.

Wow, great video! Thankyou! Well, I have a kelblys and I dont know if its as good as they told me it is.. the firing pin is slightly off center, and the lock up seems kinda loose. Kelblys told me its “within” specs and you wont accurize it correct? So what do you charge to have it checked?
@AccurateRiflesandRestorations7 күн бұрын
the question is: does it shoot? If not, I can put it through an evaluation to determine what the cause of the problems may be. send an email to info@accurateriflesandrestorations to get started.
@johnseptien3138Ай бұрын
Geoff, do you consider "trueing" an action as a different process than blueprinting an action? I do the same process you do to "true" an action. A full on blueprint for me would be everything you covered plus bushing the firing pin, mini-M-16 extractor, external bolt release and primary extraction with new bolt handle + bolt knob. At that point a new Zermatt, Stiller, Bat, etc. is a less expensive with all bells and whistles is the way to go. Your thoughts? Also, im finding a custom bolt from PTG or Eric Kortina for 700's fitted to the receiver internal dimensions is time saving and a value.
@AccurateRiflesandRestorationsАй бұрын
Hi John! uh... yes...🤣 When I was new, the term "blueprinting" confused me. Blueprints are for houses. Then words such as "accurizing" and "truing" got thrown in, which made more sense in our world. interchangeable words for pretty much the same thing... IMO - blueprinting (better put = truing) is physically qualifying and re-machining the critical surfaces of the action to new dimensions that can be called out on a spec sheet for barrel work (like a technical drawing with dimensions, tolerances, etc.), while accurizing comprises the entire "package" including lapping of lugs, machining the barrel concentric and square to the chamber high side up, accuracy crowns, bedding of stock, optics mounts, etc... all the little things incrementally adding up to improve accuracy. To me - things like extractor, bolt release, bold handle/knob, bushing/turning FP upgrades do not contribute to accuracy improvements (though they are very nice upgrades, some customers simply do not want these things). As I stated in the video, if one can afford a "custom/boutique/expensive" action, go for it! This blueprinting stuff is more suited for the guy that already owns one of these kind of actions and wants to hot rod it, or a guy that has a smaller budget, but still wants to compete with the rich guys. I still feel custom work tailored to one's own specific action is the best method over just buying stuff blindly manufactured by a robot (CNC) that still has more inherit slop than what can be tailored by a human being such as you or me can provide to the customer. Robots have their place, making cars and airplanes. They don't belong in the precision rifle arena where the human touch is far superior and has way more attention to detail than any robot can provide! Again, just my opinions. I truly appreciate your support on here! Happy smithing comrade! 🤠

On a Remington style action does the ejector not push the cartridge out of alignment in the chamber ?, great video btw !
@MMBRMАй бұрын
The amount of misalignment would be dictated by the clearance around the brass and the chamber walls. This may be one of the reasons that fireformed brass seems to shoot more accurately. Match chambers also reduce the amount of "wiggle room". Most people looking for peak accuracy bump the shoulders on the brass back 0.002" or less so the brass can only be tilted an extremely small amount before it would be contacting the chamber face. If the tolerances are tight then when the brass is fully inserted with the bolt closed the base of the case is held flat against the bolt face with the ejector fully compressed and there's very little effect from the ejector. That being said a lot of benchrest shooters will either remove the spring or reduce the spring tension.
@paullavallee1631Ай бұрын
@@MMBRM Its a weak point in the design, makes the Mauser action look better for accuracy
@MMBRMАй бұрын
@@paullavallee1631 Yes, Ideally you would want the all the forces to be balanced. I'm not sure if it will make any significant difference. Most premium custom actions use the same configuration and I would hope they tested it. I haven't actually done accuracy testing with/without the ejector in my borden actions(I remove the springs). I might shoot a few dozen in each configuration to see if there's a measurable difference.

@aaronwilcox6417 they dont preform in dirty environments. I built a rifle for a guy with a Lone Peak Fuzion and even a minute amount of clay dust from when bedding his chassis wouldn't allow the bolt to close on a live round. However Surgeon will preform in dirty/dusty conditions. I compete in 1000yd benchrest and though I prefer Kelbly Actions I see plenty of blue printed 700's, 721's and 40x's win matches at Williamsport and thats professional level 1000yd benchrest
