I vote Kirk most the most “generous” for putting anything and everything out there to help and inspire musicians and listeners. He is always revealing the very essence of all kinds tasty music; sharing like a true friend anything he knows and, I for one see it’s making a real positive difference in this world. Thank you Sir! The flashing light 💡 bulbs, aha moments - pearls of wisdom in your videos if you will, really speak to me and inspire me to play for the sheer joy of playing and expression. You are truly a modest Jedi if the craft and inspiration to us all ✌️ !

Hey Kirk. I am 53. I'm a pro sax player. I'm currently unemployed due to the pandemic. I never comment on these threads, but I am compelled to say, Thank you. I took on guitar a couple years ago to find more colors and shapes for my compositions and arrangements and to have another viable double to keep me gainfully employed. But I fell in love with the instrument and have been shedding hours and hours a day. Your videos have not only been incredibly informative - I've been transcribing a lot of stuff from them! - but your company has been so welcome in this period of isolation. I just wanted to thank you. Love love love love your playing, my brother.

Eric Clapton done a version of the Isley Brothers version of Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight on Reptile and one day I was driving down the road listening to it and just started shaking my head while he was soloing over the outro and my wife was like "why are you shaking your head???" and I was like "it's just NASTY how he can go between major and minor so tastefully..." and she was like "Um...if you say so..." LOL! She didn't get it because she doesn't play but if anybody on here knows that version they'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I think the problem most run into in going between the two is winding up just sounding "predictable" in how you use it. There's actually a video of George Benson giving a blues lesson and he talks about this very thing. My favorite George song to jam on is Breezin'. It's just SO musical! I know that's not a song that he personally wrote but it's definitely one that he totally owned!

It's ironic for a "blues guy" to have such a genuine and infectious smile but he just seems like one of the most down to earth dudes you could ever hope to meet.

Tomo Fuita done a video on Breezin' just a few days ago that you may wanna check out. That's a really fun song to jam on and probably would make like a good "introductory" tune to jazz guitar really. Pretty straight forward chord wise but really has a lot of wiggle room for improvisation too.

Major chords just sound happier to me. Does it get used as call or as response? That's where the bobos always happen to me.. need to finish the first part with the major , cant just throw major and minor scales in the same part of the phrase. I'm chicken always play the same major or minor scale up to the chord change. All twelve bars very safe. Just need the music to change the phrasing going into the 1. Unfortunately for me I work hard on being me. Make mistakes cause I'm a searcher, It is what it is . Just love music all my life.. Love your sound and inspiration. Still very glad you and early riser.
