So I've relied on the Bluetti AC300 (and the B300 batteries!) for just over a year now. "Relied on" as in … it's my only source of power. Without it, life stops for me. So let's take a few moments and look back over the past 12 months, discuss the good and the evil, and see if I would do it again.
And if you're new to the channel … and I assume you are since you probably searched for this … take a few minutes and look around. No, it's not a solar channel, but I do need to rely on the technology in order to do what I do. And maybe it can help spark some ideas for you too.

This thing is like comparing a gas car to an electric car. Its so ridicules. This thing will never beat a good inverter generator.

Thanks Rick. I researched the AC300 last year and looked at your earlier videos. It has worked great for my installation on a 36’ boat. At the time it was the only unit that did true 30amp pass thru. My generator had given up and was not able to be repaired for the short Canadian boating season. Having 790W of solar panels and the ability to top up at shore power was great. All the best.

I'm late to the game here, but this video is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Bluetti, like yours, and I plan to use it in my RV, when I go full time, in a couple of months. It looks like it'll meet my needs. I have a good inverter generator, and plan to add solar panels, so I should be all set. Thank you. I've subscribed and intend to do some binge watching.

If you want the Bluetti to pull less power from a generator, you can tell the AC300 how many amps to draw....all the way down to 1. Settings ...Next... Max Grid Current. I wish the app had way more info. It does show the PV in, Grid in, AC out, DC out and battery charge. You can also turn AC on/or DC on/off. The app could be so much better.

We use our power station at home for more than our “beer fridge”. We have an Ecoflow Delta 2 Max as a UPS for our furnace and water heater. Instead of them being directly power from our panel, we converted their local cable power hook up to plugs and have them plugged into the Ecoflow and then that plugged to the outlet. Works great as our water and furnace are heated by Natural Gas, which retains pressure during a power out, so they still run. In building out our overland vehicle, building batteries into the vehicle is cheaper for more Watts Hours / Amps.

I bought this system with two batteries for my van. I will have 600W of solar. Bluetti is not permanently installed yet - your experiences are very helpful for consideration of final install tweaks.

I appreciate your content. I decided to do what you're doing and use a solar generator to power my converted trailer. I have a question: Do you have a video on your mini-split install and how did you connect it to your Bluetti?

VERY informative bid, like how you explain things. IF you had to replace the unit you say you would get a bluetti again. Is there another brand/make that would compare to yours that may change your mind?

Good point about using a generator to charge the battery bank... Make sure it's a inverter type! I have the Ecoflow power kit and tried charging with my regular non inverter 10 year old gas generator. Errors everywhere! Plugged it into the wall... No problem. Plugged it into a inverter generator and, yup no issues, no errors👌

We briefly tried it with a non-inverter. Didn't even recognize it as a power source. So yea, we carry a Genmax inverter genie. And when I remember to clean out the carb bowl (or heaven forbid not let it get gunked up), it works like a charm.

I'm doing a van build right now. I want to travel for work doing electrical construction all around the country where they are paying high wages and high per diem. Powerstations are getting to the point where they are more affordable than doing a self build.. I bought a BLUETTI EB240 2400Wh for $780 and I also bought a Jackery 2160Wh for $1200. A self build with 400ah batteries would be more of a cost. But the best part is that I can take out my powerstations if I sell the van.

I bought the AC300 and 2 batteries for my tiny home. I bought 6 of their 200 watt portable panels which do charge well when it’s not raining but after I bought them the paperwork said don’t allow them to get rained on. I live in Oregon so that’s a joke. I have been emailing with support about what outdoor waterproof panels work with this unit and they haven’t been real helpful. Another problem is it’s quite cloudy here so I bought 12 100 watt Harbor Freight Thunderbolt amorphous panels which are suppose to charge in cloudy weather but they’re not working AT ALL. May I ask what exactly are you using for the panels on your roof? Thank you!

Swinging by to watch the video you shared. I also want to finish watching the NOLA video. I'm from there. Also a unsolicited tip, try to work on some uniformity and clarity in the thumbnails. I was scrolling through to see what would catch my eye and that's what came to mind. But if you ever wanted to rap about KZbin, I'm up for it.

how many solar panels do you have and how long to charge it?
@rickhiggins
@rickhiggins 3 ай бұрын
We have 1200 watts up on the roof and another 800 in portable folding panels. Charge time is so variable, but I can give a real life example from the past few days. We're in Baja in February, so we have lots of low angle sun. We end every day at 100% and by morning (cooking, etc) we're usually around 70%. We have three B300s, so you do the math. Today we were back up to 100% around 1pm. The top panels were bought used from Santan Solar in Arizona. Ex-Canadian units. We love those. The folding panels are seriously not worth the month, but we already spent it so they get to stay for awhile. I won't even mention their name, they're so low efficiency.

Can you run an AC with this unit and if you have for how long?
@rickhiggins
@rickhiggins Күн бұрын
We have one of those "indoor and put the hose through the window" units, and with 3 B300 batteries we could go for maybe 4-5 hours before they drained so much we'd lose the fridge too. Then again, that AC unit is far from efficient. We're thinking mini-split so when that happens, we'll be sure and do an update.

How's the air-conditioning go on it?
@rickhiggins
@rickhiggins 5 ай бұрын
Ummm, not so great. We have one of those "window, not window" units where the main unit sits on the floor and the exhaust fits in the window. We can run it maybe 3-4 hours before the batteries get to the point where I'd rather sweat. On shore power, it's all fine. But honestly, the unit we have isn't big enough for the bus. We're thinking of going the mini-split route, and perhaps one more B300 back there. Stay tuned.

@@rickhiggins I've got a motorhome with a Coleman mach air con. I don't know what the specifications of it are but I'm thinking I would need at least 2 or 3 battery's. I'm thinking it would draw 1800 watt or up and it doesn't seem to cycle.

Great video mate, but why do you need a 9000 watt setup in a bus, seems like a massive amount of overkill considering you do not have many appliances to run etc 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
