Much appreciated! I've made tons of new videos on the BMPCC4k which might be relevant to you as well
@davetinoco2 жыл бұрын
Your explanation is incorrect as you are not taking into account in crop factor. The 18mm is not a 12mm on the BMPCC. It is 18mm times 2x crop factor times 0.71x reduction. So the 18 becomes 36mm x 0.71 which is around 25mm equivalent on BMPCC 4k MFT sensor
@timeallofgreatestthe2 жыл бұрын
Actually, because it’s an APS-C lens the crop factor is reduced to about 1.2x without the speed booster. That’s why you get vignetting at its widest with the speed booster, your crop factor winds up being about .85 with the SB.

@JonBear4 жыл бұрын
Super appreciate it Josh! On the BMPCC4K you can turn on focus assist, which will highlights red outlines around your in-focus subject. I set this to Medium. So grabbing focus is super fast and easy. Furthermore there is a button on the face of the camera that let's you zoom in on the image. With this you can easily see if it's in focus and it allows fine-tuning. The autofocus on Blackmagic is just tap to focus, so it's never meant to be used while recording. It's a cinema tool, and pros don't really use manual focus. If autofocus is important to you then I'd recommend you look into cameras from Sony or Canon. What type of stuff do you usually film?

The colors on the BMPCC 6k are much better, so i wouldnt say the only difference is resolution. In my country the 6K is only 400€ more. The sensor is larger, it has better low light and i can use my Sigma 18-35mm without extra equipment. As a hobby filmmaker i want the Ultimate Set Up for myself without compromises so i think its the smarter move to save some more money and buy the 6K. Or what do you think?
@JonBear4 жыл бұрын
Hey Milan! in my previous video I address this question 'why get a 4k over a 6k?' My conclusion is that: 1. Pocket 6k needs to shoot in 6k if I want to film in braw - which means heavier files - and I don't need 6k video. 2. When using a speedbooster, The sigma 18-35 will produce a wider image (almost as if the sensor is larger) on the pocket 4k than on the pocket 6k. It will also speed up the aperture to f1.2 3. I already owned the speedbooster and lenses for M43 sensor cameras so it made a lot more sense to get the pocket 4k for me. In your case, if you don't already use m43 camera, then maybe the pocket 6k makes sense. Especially if you don't mind the massive file sizes from 6k video.

@JonBear4 жыл бұрын
@@Milan-cf1xe If you have any experience at all, then I am sure you can get up to speed with the camera pretty quickly. It has no "auto" modes, so if you know the basics of iso/aperture/shutterspeed/whitebalance then you can get a handle on it. Other than that, it requires external power and external harddrive solutions in order to record for long sessions. If you decide to buy one, expect to pay at least 1000 euros extra for this stuff. But once you have one, you're working with industry gear. Good if you're selling a video service. If this sounds like too much, then consider upgrading to another Sony APSC camera that uses the same lenses you use now. I know a youtuber named That Icelandic Guy who only makes content about them. @@JonBear Thanks for the quick answer! No I didnt use one when I recognized the vignetting. When I use a lens hood the black edges are even bigger. When I'm for example at 50mm and at infinity focus no vignetting, but on 50mm with very near focal range very big Vignetting as long as I'm using full sensor size. I own a 4K bmpcc and a few days ago I also bought a sigma 17 50. Unfortunately I realized a big vignetting problem with this lens up to 28 / 30mm shooting in C4k. On the other hand, in UHD the problem is not there. Although there are ways around the problem, this thing bothers me a lot and I think that sooner or later I will switch to lumix 12 35. From some videos I have seen on the net it seems that the sigma 18 35 also suffers from vignetting and in any case it does not I take it into consideration because it is a very heavy boulder!

Great video (as always) there is another speedbooster by aputure named "dec lensregain" it works a little bit diffrent, I got one used a while back but have not yet found the 18-35 used at the right price yet. It seems to keep it's value very good in the used market.

Wow thanks for the hint! Never heard of this speedbooster before 😮 The Sigma 18-35 is one of the most utilized lenses in the indy cinema space, so used ones are similarly priced a new ones. I'd just buy a new one as they've dropped in price considerably since it was released, and you can make sure the retailer sells you one with the newest firmware.

@@nikolaj3988 Dang wonder why they stopped supporting it. Now I want a speedbooster with follow focus
@eladbari2 жыл бұрын
@@JonBear I need clarification here: 1. Lenses have firmware updates? You said the Sigma 18-35mm can be updates 2. And what does it mean "Aputure has a version with follow focus"? Aputure is a company that sells lights. Follow focus is related to maybe the Metabones adapter or the lens itself. Confusing comments... Please explain again? :)

Hi mate in Google it's showing calculation like 👇🏻 Focal length x Adapter x Cropfactor 18 x 0.71 x 1.9 = 24.282 35 × 0.71 x 1.9 = 47.215 Your calculation in video 👇🏻 18 x 0.71 = 12.78 35 x 0.71 = 24.85 Bit confused which is the right calcution the Google one Or the calculation you showed in your video 🤔
@JonBear3 жыл бұрын
Simple, I didn't calculate with the crop factor. I find it only relevant to add crop factor when comparing different cameras :)

It’s not a speed booster. It’s a focal reducer. Speed booster is a kind of metabones focal reducer. It’s a branded item.

I don't know what you mean. Even Viltrox calls it a speed booster on their website. viltroxstore.com/collections/speed-booster

The fact that it is slightly loose would turn me insane. 😩

Yeah.. the difference between $150 and $699. I might try some of the DIY hacks to make it fasten more sturdily

Come on, it's in fact BS. This play is almost not noticable, and the lens is perfectly secured.

@@dawidnitecki9143 I agree. But it would be unfair not to mention it in the video :)

Why all the reviewer forgets that speed booster just let you decrease the amount of light you are loosing then use FF lens on smaller sensor. You will never get F smaller than 1.8 by adding speed booster! You'll get: 1.8 x 2 (MFT crop factor) x 0.75 (SB magnification) = 2.7 aperture ratio equivalent

So I was on an out door shoot yesterday for the first time with my sigma 18-35 leans with viltrox ef-m2 ii speedbooster and It would only go to f11 this normal?

This sounds like a connection or firmware issue. For the pocket 4k I discuss the best firmware in this video after lots of testing kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXjIeqyIdtWqpMU
