just because u didnt mention it, there's that gap in the grip where you are supposed to store the connection cap while you are using the grip..
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I wondered what that gap was for. Still a pain to have to screw it in each time. I noticed the Ronin RS2 has the same exposed connectors so hopefully it should be fine.

Been using with the grip for the best two weeks and I gotta say, I love it this grip a lot. It really did help me a lot to stabilize my footage even better than without having the battery grip. I’m that kind of person who’d prefer DSLR-weight cameras to properly stabilize my footage. The EVF is really bad, in my opinion, and I unfortunately can’t return it. The LCD with 1500nits is amazing and really helps me a lot. I’d say go for the grip and skip the EVF.

Interesting. I find the EVF pretty good however that is coming from a video camera background, Sony FS5 and Canon C200 which had bad and ok EVFs at best. The pocket 6K pro one better than them that said it's no were near as good as mirrorless which for some reason remain far better than video camera EVFs despite being cheaper! Screen is amazing and you can live without the EVF, I do like that extra point of contact though.

You can screw the plastic lid/plate of the camera in The Battery Grip, it has a an area for you to place it.

I thought this was a no-brainer. Then I saw a new Smallrig cage which has a nice way of mounting an SSD which could save me a ton of money on storage media, but I was upset that it does not look like it works with the battery grip. Now I'm starting to think of just swapping batteries as needed if I'm walking around doing travel videos, especially since you say it's easy enough to predict when the battery will die.

Hello there! Now that 2 years have passed since you wrote this, I'm wondering how you've been doing with that, since I'm kind of following the same reasoning path of just manually swapping batteries. Thanks in advance.
@RobFisherUK
@RobFisherUK 10 ай бұрын
@@maul9815 my problem for travel video is the time it takes the camera to mount the SSD, which can be 10-20 seconds. Not great when you want to film something quickly. So I end up leaving the camera on, which drains batteries too fast. My solution is the FxLion Nano Three with a belt clip attached and a D-Tap power cable with curly wire. Lasts several hours and is useful for other things too as it has USB-C PD charging as well as the D-Tap.

May grab one. I had the 6k before switching to the F6. I want a b cam that’s ready to shoot without all of the extra stuff. This + the battery grip seems to be the winner but I’m deciding between this and the c70.

How have you found the stability of the camera on a tripod? It looks like there would be a lot of leverage on the one screw holding the grip that might let it wobble, especially with a big zoom. Don't know why they didn't use 2 screws.
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah with the weight of a big lens does make it wobble. Ideally you'd want the lens braced however that would be hard to do. A the small rig cage that goes around the camera and battery might be the answer to make it ridged.

I own a 6k pro and decided not to get the battery grip as with my rails and base plate on the camera it is already quite bulky and I thought adding the grip would just make it too awkward to handle.

Excellent review. I've gone back and forth on whether to get this when I first get my 6k pro next month. I was already leaning toward not getting it, bearing in mind that I - like other commenters - plan to rig the camera so I can use cine lenses. This review helps confirm that's the right choice for me.

Also keep in mind there currently isn’t a cage for the 6K pro with the battery grip.
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 3 жыл бұрын
That's true. I think if your going down the battery grip route though it's all about keeping it as minimal as possible rather than rigging. A cage with the grip would mak e it very tall!
@joelmulder
@joelmulder 3 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanPalfrey I think in that case, it'd also be a good idea to use the EVF, since it'd add another point of contact for stability. I find it's very hard to get steady footage with this camera without using a cage and adding some extra weight, so that should help. SmallRig will probably make a cage for use with the battery grip at some point, but it'll probably look hilariously silly because of how tall it would be.

Do you think that the weight would change much to a manual jib if I maybe just added to 2.5 barbels on the back or something like that? -Mr. Underbelly
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 6 ай бұрын
possibly. You're probably better running a longer power cable from the camera down to a battery to keep the head of the jib lighter. You could even use the battery to help with ballast on the back!

@@JonathanPalfrey It's crazy that you say this because in the last 12 days my search led me to the conclusion that I would be bolting a 330W EV Generator to my flycam suit and just plugging in to that. I'm pretty sure this would power the BlackmagicPocket cinema for roughly 7-9 hours. I think that'll work for the type of work I'm doing.

I have a question regarding the battery grip charging. I just recently began using my new 6K Pro Camera. I initially charged the NP-F570 battery that came with the camera. The record light came on red and stayed red until a full charge. Then went off. Today I attached the battery grip with two new NP-F570 batteries and charged. It started out a steady red and then turned to an alternating red and white. I read about this happening on another BM thread but it did not seem to resolve the issue or suggest what to do. I then turned on the camera and all three battery icons show white and appear to be charged. Is this just a fluke of this configuration when charging, or is this a problem I should follow up on? What has been your experience? Thanks!
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the slow reply. That's odd, not something I've experienced. Maybe it means one is full and the other one isn't? Honestly though I do all my charging of batteries out if the camera and only ever use the in camera charging as a back up.

I'd suggest just getting the cheap Amazon usb chargers. In fact I've got a video coming soon where I build a multi charger hub using them.

No one..I mean no one every specifies how high frame rate does..NO ONE..its always "you can get 45 minutes" ok?? with what settings, frame rates, resolutions etc??
@JonathanPalfrey
@JonathanPalfrey 3 жыл бұрын
Framerate and resolutions doesn't make a huge difference, a few minutes here or there. Its not like you'll suddenly double the battery life in a different mode. I was shooting mostly 5.7k 60/25 HFR when shooting to get that sort of time. If you were only shooting 25 you may get a little longer. In real world settings you'd probably be using a mix of frame rates, start/stopping recording maybe even tweaking screen brightness etc so it's best to say a general amount of time you can expect to get out of these cameras rather than an exact amount for one setting.

@@JonathanPalfrey not on my end..I notice a huge difference as soon as I switch to hi frame rate..the lp6 battery dies within 10 minutes if I’m shooting hfr..if I’m shooting 1080p 24fps it’s nothing close I get 30 minutes
