Found your channel looking at Royal Enfield owners reviews. Then I see you had an FJR! Hooked.I had the same love affair with my 2005 FJR1300. That turbine power, handling, fuel economy, gearbox, but I was getting too blase and she had to go after 2 years. So I still have my licence! Then dammit a GS, I have one too. 2013 1200 LC TE,chocolate drop and bar. The polyvalent motorcycle. Having just sold my 2002 Wing there was space in the garageso, I have just bought /ordered an Interceptor Red and orange tank. Arrives mid end June. The extra for the chrome tank was just not justifiable in my opinion, here in France. Not that it was so much but............. So I will be riding along. I have to say your bike is a real looker, but my back now will not do those bars. Thanks for your videos, take care but have fun.

I was a real anti BMW GS snob for years! I’ve been a big sports bike rider for 30 years. I always thought the GS was a lardy bike for old farts who weren’t real bikers!!! However!!! After having done a few trips with friends who’d ‘gone to the dark side’ I started to envy their comfort, luggage, weather protection, tank range, headlights and frankly I had to work to keep up especially in damp / wet conditions. Long story cut short, I bought a mint 2013 TE K50 with spoked wheels and full vario panniers. I’ve NEVER ridden so much! It’s one of the easiest bikes I ever ever ridden and I don’t give bad weather a second thought. Frankly I feel a bit stupid about my former attitude! Stick in dynamic mode and it’s a sports bike (sort of!). I wish I’d got one years ago!

Too late, bought my first ever GS in 2019 and loving it. The GS1250 is the swiss army knife of bikes and what tipped it for me was the TFT and how easy it is to use and how clear it is. Easy to switch over from mph to kph when i was on tour and easy to adjust the height/suspension as well (I'm vertically challenged) Lots of extras bought. PS, They have changed the two-stage heated grips for the five-stage version found ton the RT (2021 GS)

I broke a few of those black wind deflectors offroad so if you plan on doing so remove then our get replacements. Also get different crash bars cause those just bent inwards and expose the valve head covers anyway. If you stay in the road all I would recommend is to get sooner clear stickers over the frame where your boots are. 70.000 km over 2 years experience on a 2016 triple black like yours talking here 😉

I have had an FJR1300, FJ1200, Concours14 & a 2010 R1200GS. Been on 3 thousand mile tours on both the FJ, FJR & the R1200GS. They are all great mile eaters but the BMW was probably my fav long distance bike of these because the seating position, wind protection, luggage capacity, little to no engine heat…. These are great do it all bikes and if you ever wanna venture down a gravel fire road you can do so. Also if you drop one, it’s nothing to pick up or damage wise as one of the FJ family. I love sport tourers but the GS bikes are the true Swiss Army knives of motorcycling. I also have done a 4900 mile trip on one of my Harley’s and I don’t think I was any more comfortable than I was on the GS. They are amazing bikes. Just sayin.. Swiss Army Knives of motorcycling

Thanks for the first impressions review. I have a baby GS because I like a light flickable bike for back roads and mild off road, but if I was doing long highway miles I'd get a big daddy GS. The lightly used GS bikes are very reasonably priced in the US, particularly in the winter. It's a bit sad that you have a bike that's capable of touring across continents and you were on a lockdown, restricted to 5 km from home. It's even worse when the data clearly shows that lockdowns don't slow the spread or virulence of COVID.

Don't ride with the bags if you don't need them and you will see that the steering is so much better. And put a set of Pirelli Scorpions on the bike to have a GS 2.0. It is the easiest steering machine on the market but with the bags the steering becomes heavier. I also put the handlebars a bit up (forward) to have a more dynamic position on the bike and never ride with the middle of your feet on the foot pegs but only use your tips. A GSX-R or R1 will have a hard time to follow this machine. Awesome bike. It is my 4th and still love it.

I'm like you - ridden mainly sports or sports touring motorcycles over the 50+ years since my youth. Mainly various BMW K's and Oilhead Boxers since the mid 90's. So I've always been used to slight lean forward posture where some weight is taken by the thighs. I did test ride an early R1200GS around 2008 but found the bolt upright position and hard seat uncomfortable as I have a problem with coccyx pain, so bought a R1200ST instead. But I'm wondering if BMW have improved the design and long distance comfort levels of the GS. I hear nothing but good things on the latest models. I'm also 5' 8" and the GS is quite a tall bike. Is your seat standard or the low seat? Maybe I need to book another test ride.

Welcome to the darkside, I'm on my 3rd now. Whatever you do don't let them give you the 1250 as a loaner when you get this one serviced😂 Be careful with the cruise and make sure you switch it off at the button when you've finished with it as the resume button can easily be hit by mistake, leading to some potential brown trouser moments if you're travelling at a lower speed and it takes off unexpectedly.
