You should review for your own personal experience drive a full bolt on 335i/435i or m3/M4 and make sure its on sport + not just sport. and of course one with a stick trasmission

the 435i isnt twin turbo, the "twinpower" turbo is a twin scroll turbo so one turbo with two different turbines in it. a small one for low speed and a larger one for top end this is when there is no lag

I was the same as you about BMWs. Didn't care for any but the Ms until I picked up a 135i n54. There are so many tuning options and you can get 600whp plus on stock internals. Also im pretty sure the 435i isnt twin turbo. Alot of people get say that because it says twin power turbo, what it actually means is it has a twin scroll turbo.

Honestly that heavy steering is one of the things I miss about my old 335i, the best steering I've ever felt. I want to get an aftermarket steering rack to get that incredibly responsive and realistic feedback that my bimmer had in my subaru. I really can't stand light pillowy steering. I know you don't like the steering of the bmw but that feel has been their major selling point forever. The steering feel is what seperated bmw back in the e30 days and what made journalists fall in love with it. Also Im pretty sure bmw offers a manual transmission in all their cars except their suvs, they are sold as a drivers car afterall.

I completely understand where you are coming from. In the last few years new BMW's have excited me less and less because the experience has become so tame. Every time i get in my 635CSi I know I am going to have a good time because of how analog it is.

It's like the guys on Everyday Driver ( KZbin Channel ) always say, and they are correct - "You can't drive a spec sheet." And that is exactly why this car has disappointed hardcore Bimmerphiles. The chassis is a bit soft as compared to the much-loved E90 era, and going away from the Hydraulic steering has really hurt the steering feel.

I really like bmws and almost bought a 535ixdrive (last week) with the Msport package for my wife. It drove nice, I like the interior (I turned off that eco/start/stop first) has decent power. Thing that stopped me from the purchase is how much they depreciate in a few years, reliability after warranty and for the price of that bmw new, Porsche (the best German car imo) 997 turbo is within reach.

It depends where you get it tuned because I know for a fact you can get 335is a 100hp+ for less than 200 bucks from burger tuning while going for dinan or renntech will run you around 2 grand atleast. I dont think bmw has anything against modding cars they have a very large tuning market that they themselves support and endorse.

i think you're going into the discussion that while german cars are very well made and engineered, they lack that sort of passion drivers feel with other cars, specifically Italian ones, ones that require more attention when driving fast or those that demand more from the driver while they aren't as well-built. this is coming from a novice but i would love to drive a bmw and maybe a mustang and tell the difference

Well, yeah, but the driving feel isn't there with most modern cars, apart from some supercars, german sports cars (as in M, AMG and RS), American pony cars and the occasional Japanese/Korean car. A non-M BMW is still pretty okay compared to other not-exactly-performance oriented cars.

I have a 435i gran coupe and it is great. I wish BMW offered an "is" line like did they for a short time with the e92 335i line. My only dislike of it is that is has the luxury line and not the M sport line, but as the 4 series line comes with many of the 3's sport options as standard, it isn't too big of an issue.

As an American, I am torn between getting a used 2014 435i for around $25k, vs a brand new 2018 Ford Mustang for $35k with full warranty. What concerns me is the long term life of the 435i. My buddy has a 335i and already needs a whole new front suspension and a few other repairs at 100,000 miles. I've never owned a car that would need that much work. How has your 435i been for long life and reliability been?

I really know what you are talking about, dude in blue. I recently bought myself my very first BMW. It's a 535D (I live in Europe, where diesels are in vogue). It's got 330hp and 680NM of torque, M-pack from factory. I was expecting to have a BLAST! Except I didn't! Yes, the car is incredibly good at everything it does. I have little competition on the road. It is supremely comfortable and qualitative. But it's an automatic. And it has a billion computers standing between me and the car. All my friends and relatives love it. But I don't. I actually fall asleep while driving it. Before it, I had a Toyota Avensis with a 2.0l diesel and a manual gearbox. That engine had a huge turbo lag and the 310NM it produced had to be meticulously harnessed by reaching the correct RPM. But I enjoyed! I felt involved. The BMW though... it's joyless.

Just FYI the 435i uses the N55 engine that has a Twin-Scroll turbo, not a twin turbo engine like the 335i from before with the N54. The new M2 uses factory modified N55 engine instead of a Sxx engine like all M-cars (except 1M) use. Nobody believes the 35i or 40i cars are as quick as they actually are since they lack an //M badge, so it's almost like having a sleeper.

Umm... Toyota knows a little about making inline-6 engines too. They did make a couple of pretty legendary ones back in the 90's. I doubt they relied on BMW because that needed their expertise. It was a financial decision.

It was 20 years ago. Tech has moved on at a rapid pace, and the mighty 2JZ, while still a legend and great for power, is outdated. They would have to play catch up with everyone if they decided to make the I6 all on their own. Meanwhile, BMW has been making I6 engines non-stop since the late 60s. BMW certainly has much more experience with I6 engines, especially modern ones.

I believe its a twin scroll turbo not a twin turbo. Twin scroll reduces lag and provides a much flatter torque curve then a traditional turbo!

This is probably why I enjoy driving my miata more than the GTI. GTI is nice, comfortable, and fairly quick. Overall pleasant car to be in and do long drives, but when I drive the miata I just get a huge grin on my face.

I love my mom's CLA250 no turbo lag, Dual Clutch 7 speed, only downside is the nearly unnoticeable FWD it loves to spin for a split second in sport mode but in total specs are 208 Hp 258 LB FT of torque and a small turbo with 16 PSi

Yup. Most, if not all modern cars are pretty soulless. The only lively ones are the performance models, like all the M cars, the AMGs, Type Rs and such, but even then, it's not guaranteed. With older cars, you can have a lot of fun in, say, a D15 VTEC Civic, or a 318is like mine, but with their modern counterparts, you're shit outta luck.

The roads and the weather are different in Europe compared to the USA. If he drove the car in manual and Sport + on a damp narrow European road he would be giving the car 100% of his attention. He would also need a nappy change afterwards.

Once it gets up in the higher revs it sounds exactly like my e90 328i's inline 6. With each of them having an exhaust the 35i's (335i, 435i) sounds really low and deep and the 328i like screams and sounds really high pitched

lol wow David I know exactly what you mean, i just never knew how to explain it to anyone. when driving a german car, the power is delivered so butterly smoothly and professionally with a hint of thrill in it. Other cars pushing the same power will scare the shit out of you while driving it but bmws have a way of hiding the speed. The other day i was doing 120mph on the freeway and thought.. hmm.. maybe i should slow down. Didnt even feel like i was going fast at all, i know if i was doing 120mph in an american car id be holding on tight and being super focused.
