How to REGISTER a new 95ah AGM battery in 2012 X5 35i E70. This is replacing the OEM 90ah AGM battery and only requires REGISTRATION. I was unable to CODE the system for 95ah AGM because 95ah is not an option. The only close options shown by BMW Coding Tool were 90ah and 105 ah for AGM. 105ah would overcharge battery so vehicle remains CODED at 90ah AGM. This video shows how I REGISTERED the new battery with a K+DCAN cable costing less than $11.50 (AliExpress) and a computer (preferably Windows laptop).
Battery registration is not required on BMW vehicles older than 2002. Battery REGISTRATION sets the battery capacity at 80%, STORES the current odometer reading, DELETES battery statistics that were stored like voltage, current and level of charge and temperature.
Battery CODING is NOT required if you are replacing the battery with one that identical in construction (AGM for an AGM or flooded lead acid for flooded lead acid) AND the AHr rating is the same. If AHr is NOT the same, you may or may not need to CODE the new battery depending on whether you have the option in your software to match EXACT same AHr rating or if you have to select the closest LOWER rating than the battery rating. If you have to use closest lower and it already matches existing (old) battery as in the video example, CODING is not required for the new battery.
