Nice work, George. I did this two days ago to my F30. Just need to do this to my E89 next and all my cars will have stainless braided lines. This is an important safety improvement for older cars.

Yep all 3 of mine have these on👌🏼
@Diffusion89 ай бұрын
The little black rubber thing around the braided hose has to connect in to a bracket, otherwise it can fail the MOT (recently failed mine over this).

Great video. What to use if rusted hoses, stuck hoses? WD40?

The hoses very rarely get stuck, it’s just the fitting on the pipe that gets stuck👍🏻

Nice video thanks, very informative. I tried this on my 2011 E90, but as it is an old banger, everything is rusted up. The union was rusted to the metal brake pipe and it snapped, and so I've decided to leave it for now, not worth fixing.
@GeorgeAusters3 жыл бұрын
You should have watched this video first.. That happens as soon as the car is 5 years old or so. You need to twist the brake pipe off, you'll have no chance undoing the union

Is it not needed to replace the clip that holds the hard line? The U or upside down U looking clip
@Robert.K2 жыл бұрын
You're into something here. The way the hose is mounted in this video is not solid. I did this job today and I'm going to have some washers made, so that I can use the original clip to keep things in place.

What size plug did you use at the end of the hard pipe so the master cylinder doesn't empty? 5:00

ive seen that on a number of cars with the abs module, people like to compress the brake pedal and lock it in place to stop any air going into the abs module and air locking it. Is that not necessary for this work? or is that just for when replacing the solid pipes and they will be taken off straight at the abs pump?
@GeorgeAusters Жыл бұрын
You can do but if you’re quick only a small amount of fluid comes out. Always needs flushing after anyway

Great video and really informative for us beginners. Can you buy the rusty clip (time 9:01) which breaks due to rust?Thanks

Thanks for the video! For the new brake hose, how far down do you tighten the 14mm bolt to the caliper? Do you tighten it till you do not see anymore threads or is there a spec available?
@GeorgeAusters3 жыл бұрын
There likely is a torque spec but hand tight with a wrench is fine

Well, all's well and good George but that will fail the MOT because the spring clip is missing which keeps the hose/pipe joint secure at the bracket. Same with the one you did earlier. Poor really.

George when you initially free off the standard front hose which sized spanner did you use to undo the hose from the hardline when you drop it.. I suspect I will need to do the same on mine tomorrow 👍 I know it’s 11mm on hardline but not sure if it’s 14mm or 17mm u used to break it free

George I did discs and pads other week. Now intermittently I can get any wheels at any time are getting hot.. I can push pistons in by hand it’s hard but they move. But after a bit either can heat up. I’ve stripped cleaned greased I’ve bled life out of it. I’m planning on changing brake hoses morning.. could there be something obvious im missing. I plan to do a full flush of oil too tbh. I’m just scratching my head how it’s intermittent.. I read a lot the hoses can fail but worried will need callipers too after. Spent so much on this thing now it’s ridiculous tbh 😤

And now you have 4 loose brake hoses . In the front you never replaced the securing clips, and in the back , you didn't reinstall the steel and rubber ring. And if this is so much better than rubber hoses, why dont car manufacturers do this from new ?
