I purchases the advamced pack for my 2003 e46 m3, is that the same thing as this kit? Because mine came with 2 concave spring shims. I assumed when I bought the advanced kit it was just the clutch pack and free play delete + the bearings. I ended up not installing the large concave spring shim because I thought it waa the large washer that was on the LSD cap u der the bearing and so I didnt bother installing it. I followed shoplifetv diy that he used for his m3 and figured we bought the same kit. But after I watched this video i am a bit confused now, being that you installed the large concave shim on top of the clutch pack. If thats the case, without the large concave shim installed i had about a couple mm gap when i installed the LSD unit cap before tightening the ring gear bolts, if i would add the large concave shim wouldnt that create a too big of a gap that it would be impossible to compress the lsd cap?

You need to install the large preload shim like in this video in order to get the full potential of this kit.

Nice video. My factory LSD is dragging after only 50,000 miles. Are the mechanical LSD's easier on friction and wearing out? 2004 M3 Manual. Thank you

You're not the only one. We fixed many diffs under 50k miles in our shop. With this upgrade, you will get rid of noises for good and gain some performance too. And if you wish the top-level performance, then I suggest a fully mechanical LSD unit. racingdiffs.com/collections/all-solution-lsd-unit/products/bmw-high-performance-lsd-unit?variant=33671152959623

I didn’t fit the large shim as I couldn’t find this video. It isn’t linked on your website etc. Is it going to cause a problem? I don’t want to have to do this job again…

@@RacingDiffs looks like I’m taking the diff back out again … Could you link this video on your website, so no one else makes the same mistake. I only found another video where someone mentions that it shouldn’t be fitted.

i got a kit from you guys. my original LSD had 7/8 plate clutch, the one i was sent is only 5/6? Is this some mistake? what's the reason dropping down 2 clutch plates if so? O have i got the wrong kit sent?
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs Жыл бұрын
All is fine. Since our plates have a higher friction coefficient, we dropped 2 clutches to make room for preload shim, which is far more significant upgrade.

@@RacingDiffs Thanks for the update. I was getting a bit worried I didn't get full/correct kit as looking at the other video of LSD rebuild V1 E46 M3 on your channel I had also counted there were 7 clutches in your kit to replace. May I also ask what's the average life expectance of the clutch pack? 30000km? 50000?
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs Жыл бұрын
@antanasrapkevicius3897 depends on the usage. If you drive it on the street, it will last much longer, of course. Make sure you use quality oil such as Motul gear competition and change it every 2 years.

Will this lock the wheels faster and act in a similar manner to a 12 pack clutch LSD kit
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much, yes. It keeps clutch pack engaged all the time with minimal 30%, which improves LSD response by far.

Just to confirm - if my factory viscous unit (V1) is no longer operating correctly (minimal lockup, has clunk), just this kit installed as shown in this video should repair? There is no need (as shown in the full rebuild video) to replace (cut & press) the shaft bearings? Is this correct? Thank you!
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs 2 жыл бұрын
That is right. As addition, if you have whining noise on straight line, than you should change bearings.

Is v2 unit better? Can it handle more power? Does it wear out less frequently due to it's design?
@RacingDiffs

Not really. Basically they are the same.

@@RacingDiffs v1 is so much quicker to do, no c clips, no special tool to open/close the lid, no press to realign the slider gear rod, etc. Also seems like on v1, when you put it together, there is no finer adjustment of preload, where on v2 you can tighten the cap more, to a certain point. So v1 relies on internals thickness to provide the right preload.

@@mrgizmo7975 What if I end up with too much clutch preload on V1, and what can I do to get it right? Compared to V2 I can adjust the lock ring -- dial it in for the desired clutch preload.
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs 2 жыл бұрын
In V1 unit, you can't adjust preload that easily as in V2. You have to play with thickness. Our outer plates are slightly thicker than oem, so if you have too much preload for your taste, you can combine oem outer plates and ours to find the best combo for your application.
