BMW E46-Radio Knob Repair - Season 2 Episode 4

If you own an E46 (3- Series 1999-2006) Chances are your radio Power - Volume knob is broken. Here is a quick fix for you to get the bass back in your ride.

Hi, thanks for the video, it gave me the confidence to open mine up. I just wanted to add, you don't have to bend that piece up. There are two screws on the back and one on the top. Remove those, then the tabs around the edges free quite easily with a flathead screwdriver, then the whole top lifts off. The tabs along the face are not screwed in.

Thank you so much for this video my button was broken I fixed it. I let the battery go dead so when I jump started it with jumper cables the radio act like it was stolen that's why the button breaks

Thanks for the video, my on/off works fine but the volume won't turn up/down, i tried to spray it with contact cleaner but it doesn't help. Do i have to replace the whole rotary/optical volume knob?

Is it possible also to clean the CD lens inside with a soft cotton piece and warm water? Is it easy to have access to the lens, because my player has issues with reading some CDs.

Take the three screws on top off. The plate come off, no need to bend or brake plate.

That super glue looked like it went all the way down and barely touched the clip.

Just got a 2000 328ci, and I can turn the radio on/off and when trying to turn the volume down, it gets super loud a lot of the time. Same issue, or?

I would check to see if the inner tab is broken, then this fix should work!

Usually it's the circuit board. It's usually easiest to replace the stereo as a whole ($40 or so online)
