Thanks for a great video. I have a 2006 e60 530i with navigation system. The volume knob was acting funky. It could only turn volume down, and it would turn the volume way down any time you touched it. The steering wheel volume control worked fine. I pulled the volume knob off and sprayed a little "Tuner Control cleaner and lubricant" that I bought from Radio Shack years ago. Put the knob back on and worked the volume up and down for a minute, and now my volume control knob works fine. Your video was very helpful. I'm so glad it was that easy. The contact cleaner I used said it was safe on plastics- only three ingrediats in a spray can (mineral oil, tetraflucoethane, and cyclomethicone).

Hello Nathan, I like your videos. My radio problem is opposite to what you describe. I notice when the weather gets hot (summer) my 2001 330Ci steering wheel volume up doesn't work and the blinkers stay on if I turn left or right. What could cause this? I'm wondering about the computer boards but dont know if both these items are on the same board or on each of the 2 boards? Thanks very much.

I had this same issue on my Mini Cooper, at the time I used CRC contact cleaner, which also worked very well.

+Shane Sexton Just be careful not to get contact cleaner on any of the plastic.

+Nathan's DIY Garage that's a good point to note! At the time I did protect things with a microfiber towel. The CRC stuff probably has acetone in it or something like it.

Thanks for the quick video with a good solution that doesnt need disassembly. I applied the "normal" WD-40. The volume started working properly in less than a minute after lubrification! i hope it lasts.

Nathan, I pushed harder over my Business CD's knob last week and it's gone inside, still turns and works if I push a bit harder to ON/OFF. How can I fix it?

Does this fix last? I tried this with contact cleaner and it was fine for a day or two but the issue returned.

Hey Nathan, will this fix also work if the volume knob is not turning the radio on or off? At first, I was having the same volume issue as in your DIY video and i was just using the steering wheel controls to adjust the volume. But then one day I could no longer turn the radio on. Is the knob just stuck and a little wd-40 will fix it? I have a 2000 328ci. Thanks

I have this same issue but today I went to press the knob to turn the radio off and now it won't come back on. No Audio for radio or CD. It will take the CD and eject it but no audio or channel/track display. The only thing displayed is the time. Where do I start?

Hey I have a 2000 328i and it still has the stock radio it came with. When I turn my car on the radio won't turn on neither will the radio display and all buttons are completely dead. At random times when I start my car the radio display and radio will work just fine. It will display everything on the display. Then it would turn off for after 5 minutes then turn off and then turn back on. The majority of the time the radio is just dead and dosent display anything. I'm just asking this question since the radio works and doesn't work, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Sounds like a dead solder point somewhere in the stereo, alot of people have that same problem.
