I'd have done so much head scratching, the bit of hair I have left would be gone... well done so far. Isn't it great, plastic and aluminium bits held on by what looks like self tappers on a hot engine block... what could possibly go wrong haha. Looking forward to the next video.

Nice one mate I have the M47 fitted to my Land Rover Freelander as Td4. Your doing well I really hope it fixs your oil leak. Good video look forwards to you getting to the Rover.

I think your problem is turbo breather crankcase seal. tats letting oil out. Change the breather to new style for loo role style and change the seals for it and that should fix your issue.

res of the maintenance you doing is still good, preventative maintenance so should help in future. for stripping carbon I recommend screw fix own brand degreaser. really cheap and great stuff.

Yeah you hit nail on head. I think it could have been 90% solved just doing the filter. Oh well! Soon ill be doing the glow plugs and glow plug relay as im getting error codes for 3 of them and now my DPF warning is on because it cant regen :(

@@nitrosilvia don't just change the glow plugs, change the controller along with it. Sometimes it's both. I have error for them too but so far it hasn't bothered me so I've left them alone. There is a good chance of snapping them in and I don't want to go though that pain if I do. Use Beru as that's what bmw use and use the right grease.

Good to have you back on, shame it's fixing the 'reliable' one rather than the SD diesel! Still super interesting especially as I've been considering a 530d as a new daily.

530d is a really good car, particularly on motorways. I’ve done about 50k miles in 2 years and it’s been pretty reliable. Just needed front brake pads, alternator, and these oil leaks sorting. I got rid of the run flat tires as they were shite. Very nice to drive now it’s on conventional.

@denisovan hybrid doing it all stopped it completely, not a drop of oil lost since. But for a first start, just change the crank breather. I think that was causing most of thenissue

Great work! Does this engine have timing chains? I just finished watching a channel called Nut Job, that guy changed the chains on his driveway. Some heroes out there!

Yes it has chains but they are solid and usually no issues with them. This is M57 engine and that total nut job was done to a newer model N57 engine that is notorius for breaking chains. Funny series though and I learned a lot watching it haha.
