we distributed the batteries between front, spare tire space and gas tank space and managed to keep the 50/50 weight distribution. total additional weight ~200lb

Workman Thai why change to hydraulic? Electric motor is the most efficient way to power a car. Hydraulics are powerful, but slow and lose a lot of energy through heat.

EMW is actually also an official BMW brand, it used to have his factory in Eisenach East-germany called Eisenacher Motor Werke, cool conversion by the way ;-)

Nice conversion, I just fear the batteries in the front will be a big risk in case of an accident. There is a lesser chance of getting rear ended than head on collision.

I wonder, certainly more risk of "problems" in a head on collision, but wouldn't a rear ender be more likely ? Don't know though

Молодцы, парни! Вот бы было здорово наладить выпуск комплектов подобного рода для разных моделей машин! Особенно, прошлых лет. Например, у меня Форд "Гранада" (Европа, Кёльн). Этих машин было 6. Сейчас 2 универсала и седан. 1983, 1984 годов. Лучшего автомобиля не представляю себе. Многие люди консерваторы, как я. Но расход топлива, износ двигателя, и прочие проблемы... Если есть универсальный подход к подобной модернизации, то, расчитав кронштейны крепежа, переходные плиты для коробок и т.д. (это может быть вообще отдельным заказом, например), можно было бы, надеюсь, удешевить производство, одновременно его расширив. Конечно, здесь расчёт на консерватизм. До России, конечно, эта мысль не доберётся. Но, думаю, в Калифорнии тоже работящие люди. А производитель, как правило, не может "прыгнуть" выше "среднего класса" (хотя, кажется, и этот порог трудно достижим). Так что, одноразовость современных вещей - сомнительная ценность не только у нас. Как, слышал, в Англии говорят,: "Мы не настолько богаты, чтобы покупать дешёвые вещи." Обеими руками за вас.

If you're taking the fuel and fuel tank out, why not put some of that battery weight in the rear? So many conversions feel they need to pack everything up front...

Batteries up front... big mistake! Don't ever get in a front end collision because your battery packs will become a potential death trap. Would have been better for safety & weight distribution to mount them in the trunk, or spread out underneath the vehicle. The electric vacuum pump for the brake reservoir and HVAC controls could have been just as easily run off the main motor shaft with a larger reservoir for extended capacity when stopped or at low speeds. Seeing as it's a manual transmission, you could easily pre-charge the vacuum reservoir by running the motor in neutral for a few seconds before driving. The power steering you really can't do much about, since it needs to function on-demand except maybe have a pressure sensitive switch in the steering column to trigger the pump when needed.

Esas batería deben pesar lo que pesan dos motores y el centro de gravedad quedó demasiado alto. Mejor era colocar menos baterías y colocar sistema regenerativo en las ruedas posteriores así consumes menos, o el mismo motor trifásico en función regenerativa. Eso es cómo hacer las cosas por hacer

Y la comparativa del peso y me parece que ese motor no soporta mojarse .....no es hacer por hacer cualquiera con dinero ensambla uno. La cuestión es hacerlo que sirva en condiciones que uno de combustión y que el peso sea relativo al igual que el espacio

that motor is gonna overheat, i can promise you that. you need some good ramming air flow. cut out some holes on the hood or front panels and install cowels. make sure the cowels has a tapered ducting towards the motor.

That's an interesting promise I wonder if you'd like to turn that into a bet and what kind of odds would you give? I have known quite a lot of 11 in Motors in my time I have one in my 1956 f500 dual wheel pickup farm truck. And haven't seen any overheating problems yet. Back in the 90s doing conversions was very popular. There are a lot of cars with 9in and 11 in Motors in the.

AC is a belt driven pump, power streering the same. Brakes would have to be manual or you would have to get a vacuum pump.

It has a vacuum pump for the brakes it is the small blade pump they bolt to the motor mount on the right hand side
