When you move the fiber optic cables from the factory connector into the new connector, it's much easier if you pull the two fiber optic cables out of the sleeve. The black sleeve around the factory cable harness is just a velcro strap, and it's easy to unwrap the harness, separate the two green fiber optic cables, and then re-wrap the sleeve around the remaining wires. By doing this, you don't end up with things being so tight.

That's a good idea, I personally didn't have an issue with the optic cables it was actually fitting the two harness connectors back in. Not enough space behind the NBT unit. Wasn't easy, well... not as easy as the one I installed in the benz 😉

Good instructions, except the way the aux cable is run alongside the center console. I don't like to have the cable in sight.. It is very easy to detach the console and run the cable underneath. Just pry off the plastic cover surrounding the button that opens the armrest. You will find 1 screw underneath. After taking it out, it only takes a firm jerk to lift up the entire center console.

Still need to set the resolution for Idrive screen under the android factory setting. You probably need the factory code from the seller. Wish you took the screen protector off. The screen looks very high quality and bright but it was very reflective. Wonder if it’s the protective layer or the screen is just as reflective.

I got here via the eBay listing. My 2005 E60's iDrive system is slightly different in that it has no factory navigation. The on screen menu has 'OBC' where others have 'Navigation'. Would you know if I can still fit this unit and have full compatibility please?

I don't think you can, because it is a little different than the one I installed when I had my 525i xdrive E60. But best to message the seller and he can either confirm fitment or recommend a different unit.

i just checked and you must use a Y splitter to use the Shark antenna for both your Android system and your Main idrive. or you can keep the Shark antenna connected to your Idrive unit and use the aftermarket antenna for the android. hope this helps

Can I still use the original car GPS antenna for the Android system, or do I need to install also the GPS antenna that came with the Android unit? 3. @medalin. If not using sim card then you won't need the antenna. If you want to keep using the factory shark fin antenna Then you need to ask the seller for the GPS antenna splitter. He will try to charge you but try to negotiate. I'm using the splitter I only showed it in the install so you know how it's done. But I didn't pay for the splitter I insisted on getting included ( I was already paying enough). He will include it. Just be persistent. The USB can be used on either system but I opted for the android so I don't have to be switching back and forth, but yes you would only need the USB if you're gonna use it to maybe upgrade the system using the USB instead of an OTA upgrade. Or play media files such as MP3 or videos. Hope this helps

@Medalin: so I heard that the BMW CCC system doesn't require it, but NBT does. I have NBT and without it I couldn't get any sound, then I read is some forums that some NBTs depending on the system and options might work without it. so you have to try and find out.

The stock device works fine without any problems. Android sounds only right side. If you go to the native menu, then back to the android and click in the IGO navigator until any sounds appear, something happens, you hear a click, and the sound works everywhere. But it is inconvenient to launch IGO every time. At the same time, the left side is a little quieter anyway. What can you advise?

You're very welcome. Honestly, I took my sweet time. It was like 5 hours, maybe a bit more. It makes it so much longer when you're recording. I remember the most painful part was trying to fit the harness back in. I had to undo the wrapping around it, once the you're dealing with individual cables versus a think harness, it becomes manageable. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this video - on this basis I bought one and just installed this unit - sadly for me, there is no sound and selecting AUX FRONT in the NBT iDrive menu doesn't fix it. Also can't see how to add an Bluetooth device in the Android menus.. no option there. Reverse camera does not automatically activate either - have to manually go back to iDrive. Writing back to the people I bought it from, see what they have to say. Lastly my aircon stopped blowing, probably a fuse.. didn't disconnect the battery during install - so my fault probably

Let's start with the sound. Did you relocate the optic cables correctly, did you use the auxiliary cable that goes from the sound out in the main harness to the Aux port in the glove box? From the time of your post I take it you're located in Europe?

As long as there are no compatibility issues between your car and the android unit then yes you can listen to music using an SD card or using the USB cable and plugging a thumb drive which is what I have sitting in my glove box, much better for me then dealing with inserting the SD card. I honestly couldn't tell you if you must, but in my case "yes" I had to. as far as the Amp I'm not sure it is using the amp, what I can tell you is that sound quality and especially the bass was good for me. but then again it's all personal preferences.

@@GSPMotorsports none so far. I was able to adjust the resolution so it looks the way its supposed to now. I added a t-mobile simcard just for convenience sake. Got a 10/m prepaid with 2 gigs data. I connected my thumb drive where I had all my videos. It would not take it at first so I had to format it to fat32. Somehow it didn't like exfat. It kept asking me to format it, but i needed to copy the stuff on it first. I was told that Android auto was only possible via USB, BUT I GOT IT TO WORK USING WIFI.

No signal issue is usually related to the LVDS cable not connected. Make sure you don't miss any step of the installation.

Yes indeed. Either the trunk mounted camera or the 360. I believe I demonstrated it in the video. iDrive is not altered in anyway. You're just adding a system to the existing NBT or CIC

Yes I have followed your instructions completely. I've double checked all connection but the weird thing is I can get aux sound to play on a aux speaker but nothing from head unit. Checked F.O wires and there seem to be a good connection.

@@alfredjames45 another thing you must check is the factory setting in your Android screen. You must specify some parameters within that menu concerning whether NBT or CIC, CCC. Aux automatic switching, and also make sure Aux is checked. There are few settings to tweak. Did you read the PDF file that is embedded in the android screen?

Yes, but that screen is grayed out, and the system does not detect a sim.

@@farhadali2449 at this point i recommend you get an spare SD or sim card and use it to take out the sim card. Just be very gentle. I had to use that method because as I'm sure you noticed the tray is so deep that you can't see or feel the card once its inside to be able to take it back out. No need to completely take it out. Just half way and then reinsert it back in. So you're pushing the SD card in which in turn will push the sim card and causes it to release and come out.

Yes, I have tried that as well, re installed the Sim and re started the system and tested the sim on other devices as well and tried other sim as well, but nothing works the system does not recognize a sim being present. When I first did the reset the Bluetooth and other system did not work either cans gave a inactive warning but soon were fixed with WiFi updates and onboard file updates, was wondering if I should do another reset, hopefully that many fix any unwanted updates.

@@nyst8fmind I might have really blown it now. the zlink wouldnt connect at all so i unpaired the phone, then the zlink would only display waiting and the iphone wouldnt pick it. Using the 2018 code i reset the whole system to standard. now its half Chinease, many functions have disapeared and after an hours frustrations i've given in for the night. the 2018 code did allow me to resize the original displat to fit the new screen though so thats something. All good fun. Many thanks for the code.

@@pickering9200 I didn't mean to reset it to factory. There is an option under settings where it says factory then you enter the code in there select bluetooth then android not oem. For the display you go to car display and you look for the one that best fits your car. I have another video where you can see all of these settings.

Ohhhhh man. That was the worst part of the install. I was like I wish I did it before hand. You have no way of knowing when it's going in the wrong way. And there is a gap that you might insert it into a dead space. So the main thing is insert and feel for a spring and the resistance. If you don't feel it is wrong.

the only thing good about this product is the screen look, and about the system and UI it does not worth to replace I prefer the iDrive Professional System over horribly designed Android UI

I won't go into a debate about android design, but the beauty of this screen is that you're not replacing your idrive system. You get to keep your stock idrive interface and functionality. So it's a win win.

Hi iv watched your video many times, finally got mine from china and installed.. Everything works except the following.. Im kinda stuck as to who to ask for help. Without paying so much £££. Pls help if u can, thanks 1. Car mic works for calls but cannot use any kinda voice apps on the android side. It just dsnt hear anything 2. Usb works for mirroring with easy connect, but cannot access it from any file manager or the id7 interface 3. Sim not recognised, says pls insert sim altho its in 4. Cannot connect to blutooth from the android side. Cannot connect for calls etc nor can i connect from system settings except for bluetooth tethering Your help will be much appreciated

I personally decided not to use the system for phone calls because the poeple I called gave me the same feedback regarding too much echo and background noise. So I stuck with the BMW BT for phone. Voice Apps I honestly didn't try any so can't help you there. The sim card as I mentioned in the comments few times. It was the worst part of this whole thing. I got so frustrated with it I almost gave up. It's not recognizing it because it's inserted the wrong way. You can't tell it's wrong because the tray let's you insert it any way. There is only one way to know for sure. As you're inserting the sim card you have to feel a spring resistance pushing the simcard the opposite direction. Like you would feel when inserting an SD card in a device. If you don't feel that then it's wrong. This is as much as I can help. 😞

@@nyst8fmind thanks so much for the long reply. Yes i also use bmw bt for calls. I also did insert it the right way and also felt the spring tried 2 sims still dsnt show up in the system unfortunately.

@@mdm1048 Yes, by hotspotting the unit onto your phone. To be honest I only used the sim card the first month. Then never renewed it. I just hot-spot onto my phone. I have 30gigs a month. More than enough

Do i need to route the units microphone to the cars oem microphone to be able to cars mic for mic related apps and calls? Or can i re route.
