In this video we are swapping a BMW F10/11 rear differential due to input shaft failure. the Diff holds 0.8L of oil hope this helps some one! You do this at your own risk! Thanks

Awesome vid; thanks! So, on the side with the frozen hub, you pulled out the entire hub with the drive axle, right? Also, when you said you pried on the drive axle, I missed where you applied pressure to pop it out -- camera had the location slightly out of view when you were narrating. How do I figure out where to pry, in order to pop the drive axles out? I don't want to break anything. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I would get a driveshaft splitter, it slides in between the shaft and diff - then put just give it a sack and it’s out!!

@@torqueautomotivebedford I'm ballin on a budget over here - don't have a drive shaft splitter. Can I use a crow bar? = ) Thanks!

What a line 😂😂 a lever bar will work, go between the shaft input to the diff, put it in the tiny gap and pop it out!

hi i would like to share my story; my diff input shaft on my 2011 520d stripped the teeth inside the 3 pointed flange which bolts on to the rear prop donut, i could not buy a replacement flange anywhere, no breakers would sell just the flange as they said it always comes with the diff - luckily i found on Marketplace someone in my area was selling the whole rear subframe including the diff, propshaft, driveshafts, hubs ,brakes the lot for £180 - i jumped at the chance and bought it - then i found out it was from a 535d😧 but my curiosity or should i say desperation made me try to see if it would fit - the diff went on no problem, i changed the propshaft with no problem but then noticed my driveshafts were smaller the end going into the diff - so i tried the 535d driveshafts and to my surprise the hub end of the driveshafts with the big nut on fitted my hubs perfectly, everything fitted perfectly and now drives like new - i made back the £180 back off Marketplace by selling the leftover spare parts

i have a 2011 520d auto and it broke down 2 days ago, drivetrain fault, would not go into any gear, when you select D or Reverse or push it into M/S it would jump back to P and make a terrible whining noise from under the rear - took propshaft off and rear donut and the diff input shaft had a rattle 20 times worse than on yours and seemed disconnected from rear wheels, a mate suggested tightening the large nut on the input shaft but it wasn't loose - it took a very large spanner and a large crow bar to turn the nut 1 full rotation and amazingly the rattle had gone and now the car drives perfect.... until today - for 2 days i have been driving steadily but today i went to pull off gently whilst in traffic and it happened again - can't get any gear and the propshaft is spinning whilst stationary

one that slips, you just need to replace it as it will keep happening again, the backlash / preload will not be correct!! best option is to replace it buddy!!

Thx. My car vibrates on highway - sort of humming. Was this similar?
@torqueautomotivebedford7 ай бұрын
does it come from the rear? this was more than a humming, more of a drone like a wheel bearing!!

thx. Yeah most definately, maybe gearbox. Its weird, since it is only when the car has been driven for 20 mins or so. @@torqueautomotivebedford

is the rattle bearing failure? or is it new diff job?
@torqueautomotivebedford6 ай бұрын
yer, it come down to input shaft bearing failure, we could have had it rebuilt but the customer didn't have time to keep it off the road!
