Last review I saw from somone that actually reviews bikes said this bike is too heavy, and too expensive making it something to skip past, and just get the 1200. BMW wasn't thinking straight when they put this bike together. It's a shame, and maybe it's "just business", but it's not an appropriate purchase for your money.

Dear Friend: I think you are the most balanced opinion that i have read about comparisons between the Honda AT and the BMW #f850gs Two great bikes wich I have in my dreams (I am owner of F800GS 2016) Yes. Five months ago. I know... but totally in force nowadays. And there are pros and cons about #f850 as well. Very honest. Seriously. I think that you are the only one (that I can remember( who realize (or talking about) the changes in the gravity center. I mean tank fuel: "With f800gs you felt the center beneath the legs" (12:00 to 13:00 aprox.) I don't know if it's definitively worse or better. But different, obviously. Respect...! (By the way: recently I uploaded your video in our F850GS Facebook group. Mi"personal" nick in FB is "Elmese Motolover")
Pretty comprehensive, good job. As for the bike... good effort but the usual BMW disease, toys come as standard, basic things are expensive extras. You'd have to spend a fair bit of money on that to get it in an off road state... and you can never fix the ridiculous 15L fuel tank. Bzzt!
@pinkiewerewolf6 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with you 100%. Honestly, give me analog gauges, adjustable suspension, at least 5 gallon fuel tank, robust skid plate/crash bars and I'd be hysterically happy.
@FilmHerald6 жыл бұрын
Yeah what BMW chooses to make standard and what they don't offer at all are bizarre. Why they don't put on a real skid plate is baffling. Maybe we'll have to wait for a GSA version.
@MatBettinson6 жыл бұрын
Film Herald that fuel tank was clearly specified to make sure there's room for the GSA. BMW make good bikes, I don't understand why they feel like they have to play these games.

great bike. i dont like these huge piles of iron (GS1200, Super Tenere, Africa Twin...) they dare to call adventure bikes. guess most people just want a smooth to ride, comfortable touring bike. it just got that nasty enduro look to feed the myths and to end all the "what if" questions. just like SUVs most of them never see a trail or any serious offroad terrain. btw i love when the exhaust of an adventure bike is being criticized. well, if you want it louder - go and buy it. if you are on a real adventure 3days+ (not even talking about world travellers etc) - you will be sick and tired of a loud bike. so given its purpose, an exhaust like that fits the bike very well. and hell yes i like deep voluminous motor sounds, who doesnt? but, there are other bikes for that.

I took a R1200GSA 2018 bike this year on a 17k km ride through Andes of South America and it was on and off-road. On road the R1200 is a dream even in crazy countries and traffic. Off-road its fine but its heavy and in muddy and big rocks its difficult for me. Would I see a big difference in an F850 since its lighter? Would it be much better off-road? I'm going on a 25k km ride through North Europe and Asia in summer of 2019 and thinking of switching for the trip. Would you do that?

Loved the off-road demo at the end. I think people lose sight of the fact that putting the fuel tank in the traditional place puts weight on the front which plants that front tire in the turns. My biggest concerns would be the tiny fuel capacity and that it is an unproven Chinese manufactured engine. Unless I've missed it and the engine has been used in a motorcycle for the past 5 years or so. Still, I would suppose that BMW would stand behind it.
@12masterr5 жыл бұрын
The new engine is a evolution of the old one and 10 times better,I have both so I know!
@davidturnbull29994 жыл бұрын
I also have both (temporarily). Keep in mind this is a BMW engine that is manufactured in China. I believe all Tiger 800’s are now built in Thailand. This is the reality of globalization of design and manufacturing. I far prefer the 850 engine to the one on the 800, in fact that was my main motivation for changing. The Rotax on the 800 is bulletproof but a bit crude and buzzy. I am hoping the Chinese built 850 engine is good long term durability and reliability wise. I was a bit concerned about the smaller tank too, but my initial experience is the range is very similar, in fact my l/100km on the 850 are better than what i was getting on the 800.

So you like the Africa Twin? Every other word out of your mouth was Africa Twin. News flash-Japanese vehicles are cheaper and thus come with more features for less money. It’s because their employees live in shacks made out of pallets and they live on bags of rice. That’s why their products are cheap. If everyone else paid their employees with rice and everyone lived in shacks then all the bikes would have more features for less. The catch is nobody would be able to afford to buy one. Boycott anything made in China and Japan.
