Are you tempted by this new era of auto gearboxes? Or does it put you off getting one?

You explained the ASA system really well I must say. For me also having a 1250 GSA the ASA system makes good sense for me having a little arthritis in my left wrist, and after seeing the new GSA in the flesh, after initially thinking oh my god on it's first release I have ordered one, bells and whistles with full luggage 27k, lot of money, but you are only here once. Thank you.

Thanks Stephen. Exactly that, these systems are great for anyone with issues/disabilities to help keep them riding for longer. That’s always a bonus no matter how well / smooth the system works. It’s your money mate. Spend it where you want. You can’t take it to the grave 🤣. Ride safe. 🤙

Thanks mate, ive also taken out the GSA a few days ago, standard gearbox, much better in the flesh, handles like a charm. Enjoy your new ride when it comes.

Good video as usual. I’m old school and have traded my GSA1250, 35k miles, for the 1300 ASA. This is a whole new learning but is exactly like an automatic car with paddle shift. When you stop you have to put your foot on the brake. For touring this will be brilliant and having a gear lever retains the same feeling as normal gearbox. You always have that option. After riding it the top tip is how you mix road mode or dynamic with the ASA according to how you want to ride. The manual mode I will use when I want to hoof it. Great balanced review 👍

I thinks that’s the best way of using this new ASA. We all know when we are about to up the pace 😁. Just tip it over to manual and go have some fun 🤣🤙

Great review! I’m a boxer fan-boy (on my 8th, currently an RNineT), but I also have an NT1100 DCT which I really like. Interestingly, when you mentioned the low-speed / high speed shifts on the BMW, it seems to be the opposite of the DCT. I find the Honda to be super-smooth when giving it the beans, but too clunky low down. Hmmm. I really like the thought of a GSA ASA: boxer heaven and auto together would suit my old bones. Looked at all the colours in the flesh. I actually liked the standard red/silver. Keep up the great work and ride safe!

Cheers mucka, keeping on the theme of auto'ish gearboxes, I also took out the MT09-Y-AMT the other week, now that IMO is the best out of the DCT/ASA/AMT trio. Ive not touched the KTMs auto yet. The red does look good, I not 100% on the triple black, but the green and gold gets my vote every time :)

Nice review mate,felt like we was having a chat about it person to person like!I personally like having a clutch,but I drive a vario tractor at work which can be fully auto aswell and I like that!😂it's the way it's going I think. it opens up motorcycling to people who would avoid it due to using a clutch and gear lever maybe?
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
Cheers Mart, its definitely starting to take over the market a little more this year, I wonder if the other manufacturers start their own versions soon as well?
@Cookie-yl8uqАй бұрын
The reason manufacturers are all going Auto Gearbox is due to the new EU legal requirement for Speed Limiters fitted to new vehicles(since July 2024 I think?). In the future the speed limiters are planned to forcibly reduce vehicle speeds and the only safe way to do that on a motorcycle is with automatic gearbox.
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
ah ok ok, you can see that kind of thing being enforced, all our satnavs know when the speed limits change, why not force the car to also be limited to that speed. Lets see where this goes in a few years then, hopefully it wont come in too soon 😬

Good review. I’m anxious to try out the new ASA. I’ve owned 5 Honda DCT bikes, and currently own 3 and one Yamaha YCCS. They are awesome systems but it does take a while to get used to them and like u said, the DCT is an intelligent device and will learn your riding style and shift points will adjust. It’s subtle, but then you’ll realize the your bike is shifting smoother and smoother. I’m also looking forward to try out KTM’s AMT, and Yamaha’s Y-AMT! Ride safe…
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
Hay mate. There lies the problem with testing these demo bikes with the bike not having settled to me and my riding you never know how it will truly feel after having it for 6 months. But you’ve got to make a judgement call I suppose. I’ve tried the Y-AMT and it’s really good. Full review coming soon 🤣🤙

Hi. Nice real world review. I am a little old school regarding a bike having a clutch, but only because I haven’t yet had chance to ride an Auto version. I will one day have a ride on a clutch less model and will keep an open mind until then.
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
I know what you mean. But I do like the fact they’ve left the foot lever rather than changing it over for a finger and thumb lever. Still gives that feeling of it being a normal bike 🤣🤙
@davidoram3423Ай бұрын
The BMW boxer is a big ol' twin, and has a significant amount of rotational inertia. Quick shifting, or higher speed auto changes will never be as good as a lower inertia engine. The crankshaft has to rapidly slow down as the higher gear is engaged, hence the clunky or jolt which you describe.

Hi mate if you don't mind can you let me know what settings you have on your action 5 pro rock steady etc
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
Alright mate, so I do have videos on my channel surrounding this topic but in short I keep things simple. 4k 30, rocksteady, AWB, normal 10 bit colour, auto iso 100-12800,( I ride in the day so it will never go too high, so I’m not worried about iso noise. ), -2 sharpness and -2 noise reduction. Ultra wide view angle. I use the DJI mic 2 inside my helmet as well. I will soon be doing another video on this as I’ve now got ND filters to test out and see how I may change those settings. Hope this helps. 🤙

I don't think there's any nefarious reason these are all coming out at the same time. It's not like all these companies will have a hybrid system at the same time and a hybrid likely wouldn't use the same type of transmission. I think it's more a matter of someone figuring out that they can cheaply automate the typical motorcycle transmission easily and cheaply. Since it's pretty cheap to do, all the companies have jumped on it as an option.

Bear in mind the Honda setup is Dual Clutch so it's going to be faster to be change. As you say I'd imagine the manufactirers are doing this to prepare us for hybrid/electric bikes. Was my first comment deleted? Or perhaps I've had a tech issue 😮
@DSR1YTАй бұрын
This is the first comment I’ve seen from you. Sometimes KZbin will either straight up delete your comment if it thinks it breaks their guidelines. Or I find a lot of mart77’s comments in my ‘held for review’ section on KZbin. 🤣. Indeed, with Hondas dual clutch it will also be a lot smoother as is the functionality of the dual clutch. I will say though. The new mt09AMT is good, better than either of these ie dct or ASA. IMO🤣. Full review coming of the mt09 AMT coming soon 🤙😁
@TheDervManАй бұрын
@DSR1YT perhaps it will turn up 😎 I was genuinely interested to hear if you reckon it's a good looking bike? Doesn't help I don't like green bikes but I deffo wouldn't say the front end of this bike is good looking. I was up Dick Lovetts last month trying to 'save' my PCP deal and the sales guy was saying they've sold quite a few to people coming from other manufacturers, so clearly some people like the looks.

I own a r1300gs manual. The quickshifter is smooth only in the range of about 3k /5k rpm. So basically, this system is replacing you as an operator with an electric motor for the gear change and cluch. Is?never ever going to be smooth out of that range! Hondas dct is far superior for this type of application! Is a " fail" to me. Also I don't understand the logic of starting as default in " manual", why dont you start it in automatic all the time and revert to manual if you want! Backwards! Lol. Psdt: my r1300gs quickshifter is very rough when you use above 5k
