Thanks for the review Björn, great as always. I have ordered a White i4M50 and I got to testdrive a democar the other day, it was just amazing to drive and I hope that I have made a good choice, time will tell 😊. I live in Sweden so I will be affected by the same weather as in this video, but I rarely do longrange driving in winter though and I think I will get the 18" wheels for winter tyres (will have 19" for summer). The thing I'm a bit worried about is the longer drives in summer during the holiday season, since we are lightyears after Norways charging infrastructure It will probably be a problem for all of us non-Tesla ev-owners. But I guess it will be better the years to come and I'll just have to make sure that I'm in no rush to get to my destination 🙂.

I currently own a 530e, my 3rd BMW, and looking to move to EV this year. Needless to say, I have a BMW bias. I was planning to purchase a TM3 until BMW came out with the i4 sedan. I also considered the Mercedes EQE versus i4. IMO, the interior of the Mercedes is luxurious compared to BMW which is very dated. It makes the Tesla interior look rather cheap. But starting price of $70k for EQE puts a pause on that model. Never even considered the EQC.

@skyworks1621
@skyworks1621 2 жыл бұрын
I drive a rented Tesla 3 long range and now I did put an order for a new Tesla 3LR. I was also looking at this i4 50m... But the high weight and really bad energy consumption put me off this car. Also I dont like the interior space in BMW since it is not based on electic only car. But your test only said that I made the right move since it is 25 to 30 % less efficient then Tesla3.
@mho0
@mho0 2 жыл бұрын
From Björn's table Model 3 Performance 18" wheels: 174 w/km I40 M50: 207 w/km -> Tesla consumption is 84% of BWMs. I am surprised that it is that small. Also M3 had 18" wheels. Copy from insideEVs: "His results show 293 Wh/mile with the 18s. With the 20s, he typically sees 350 to 380 Wh/mile. " So if Tesla would have bigger wheels, difference would be smaller ... 5% - 10%?? Anyway difference is almost insignificant for performance version. M3 LR is then clearly better... but clearly less performance also ... although still plenty enough ...

@@bjornnyland Is there not? I thought it had sensors behind it. But it doesen't matter because it is the responsibilty of the driver behind you to keep his distance for emergency breaking. An autonomous programm must bring the car to a quick stop if it believes the driver is not able to take over the wheel. There lies the problem. There is no right answer because in most countries there is still no legal basis on how assist systems should behave since ultimately the driver is still reponsible for the car.

@@manuelteixeira2311 Just checked the price in Portugal and that is for the base model BMW, if you add glass roof, bigger wheels and tires 21 inch - BMW comes with 18 Inch wheels, and none of the other feature the M3P comes standard. Seems in Portugal you can't add many features, like you can in the US.

Tracking the range is not nearly as important as the efficiency. So is your avg efficiency 207 Wh/km (~3.0mi/Kwh)?

Heavy - soundproofing, steel bodied?, blinkers. Press car probably fully loaded to give a good impression too.

still... 400kg speaks loudly how much better Tesla's packaging abilities are, bc. high strength steel doesn't add too much weight compared to part-aluminum bodies (not 200kg at least), and soundproofing shouldn't account for more than 50-70kg over Tesla's, if at all. I think you can count 100kg for some "more" of equipment, and okay let's make it 50kg for better sound proofing and another 50 kg heavier body - leaves 200 kg unexcused extra weight ;)

@@i-dinen-lug well come one the aswer to that is pretty clear....the i4 is a shared plattform car with the combustion 4series, thus it has a "flexible" plattform and not a dedicated one, so the fact that it is heavier should suprise no one, they don't employ wizzards at BMW. One the other side, yeah you also should not pretend that this is a good think either...The heavier weight is a disadvantage.

@@tzarcoal1018 The problem I see is that it's much too heavy, heavier than a model S that has a 100kwh battery and is a bigger car. I will wait until they bring out a dedicated ev platform.

Great video. It looks like in the UK, drivers are getting really lazy and are not using their indicators even most importantly on a roundabout.

I still wonder: Why isn't the loss included in consumption? Shouldn't you get the claimed net capacity if you multiply consumption with the range? I'd see losses as part of the consumption🤔
