Subwoofer(s!) in the iX are in the base of each seat. And there are more speakers in the back of the seat as well. So you get a more local sound for each person.

Love to see the same test with iX 40 as the 50 is much higher in cost here. Also you they don't have those "diamond" controls.

I'd love to see an efficiency mode run as well on all cars that have that option. It should include a check of the drawbacks, if any, of being in that mode in addition to consumption difference. Perhaps as a separate video.

Agree. I think that Björn should make range test also in eco pro-mode to see the difference between comfort (as used here) and most economical eco pro.

It would make close to no difference. OEMs use 2 "ECO" Tricks: - pedal response curve, which has 0 impact if you are driving constant speed - decrease HVAC power, which will make Bjoern just increase to 25 in attempt to maintain same "real feel" There is no hidden efficiency switch.

@@RobertPuklin EV6/Ioniq 5 in eco-mode will be RWD only so they should consume less but yes most often than not it’s just a power adjustment in the pedal and reduced HVAC as you said.

Really wish you'd do the test in Efficiency mode. If I was doing a long drive in an iX, I'd use it.

Impressive that you got those numbers even in winter. I have noticed similar numbers in fall already driving 120kph. Something I could never achieve with our Model X LR Plus, which is just our tow machine as BMW iX doesn't have a tow package option in north america, atm.

I think your analyses is spot on, this car will hurt the E-tron the most if people can overcome the polarizing exterior design. It will probably chip some sales from the X, but at the moment X is not selling at all. The E-tron is still selling more than the S and X combined...

Sales start pretty strong in Norway for iX. Number 4 best selling BEV in December, 3 in January and 5 so far in February.

I bought an E-tron 55 last summer. The BMW seems like a great car, but the look of it is just so silly! Maybe it will grow on me, and everyone else pretty much.... That being said, the E-tron 55 is a fantastic car! :-)

X is only “not selling” because tesla is making very few of them right now. The wait times are extremely long for them. It’s not like people aren’t trying to buy them, they just can’t keep up with demand on the S and X

The ICE SUVs will be the hardest hit. As of now all half decent electric SUVs from premium brands (where highis price of EVs is easier to justify) are selling like hot cakes.

It only disengages at junctions or changing lanes automatically if you don't hold the wheel properly with at least one hand. My old 5 series was happy with just a pressure from my knee

I can’t wait for them to come to the states. Definitely the bronze buttons over crystals. Crystals are cool but the glare. Wish bmw would offer other metal colors besides gold.

@Bjørn Nyland, did you like the heated armrests and dashboard panel below the wheel? Might lower the air cabin temp a bit and live on radiation heating instead.

Björn, Exactly what I would suggest. When I test drove a BMW iX, after a while I had to lower the temperature to 18 degrees in the cabin. Would be interesting if you could only test having radiation heating on (can be set separately via settings) and turn off the ACC completely.

Drove the iX xDrive40 over a weekend the other day and 93 km/h on speedo matched 90 km/h GPS speed. Weird.

It is coded into the car, all BMWs overstate their speed by 5%. To correct this you would change BC_V_KORREKTUR and BC_DIGITAL_V_KORREKTUR to nicht_aktiv (not active)

Never watched 3 videos of ev cars in a row. I like your style Bjorn 😂 Minimalistic interiour style is bad, you alwasy need button with feedback for a lot of controls, a tablet in the middle is nothing else than cheap for the manufactorer and bad for secure driving

I guess the BMW e-engines without permanent magnets should work better with adaptive mode, not B-Mode, as Bjoern is testing with, because they are more efficent with "sailing" where the magnet field could be disabled completely, so they don't have the "drag losses" of the permanent magnets like in a Tesla or VW.

You need the more expensive 50 over the 40 to get better specs then E-tron or EQC and those cars are imo much better looking inside and outside. I prefer the EQC over E-tron, the driving experience was better and the interior is more intuitive to use. Thats why I ordered the EQC, downside is that it can take 10-12months to deliver...

It is important to let the Norwegians know, that this car does not fully support the IT power net. When connecting to a 3-phase 32A charger, the car will only charge at 3.6 kW power. To get a 7.3 kW you will need to downgrade the system by disconnecting the 3rd phase: thus you will have 230Vx32A. i.e. more that 7.3 kW you will not get. Moreover, when you've downgraded your charger, no car will possible get a higher charge than 7.3 kW. If you have a thin wire to the charger (which will not allow a 32A fuse), you will never get even a 7.3 kW charge for this vehicle on an IT net. - BE AWARE.

Huh? You can see it right there at 20:00. The model X is literally almost 30% more efficient at highway speeds. At 120kpm the model X is 229Wh/km while the iX is 292Wh/km. And all the rest are even worse in the 300’s. In what way is that little difference between efficiencies? Range is _somewhat_ similar but efficiency is still way off lol

How can a car be off on speed but not distance? Distance is calculated by counting wheel rotations and speed is calculated by rotations divided by time? Or is there something I dont know? Are they purposefully displaying the wrong speed?

Common across car industry. Car manufacturers purposely do this. If you drive too fast because tires are a bit overinflated, we have a problem. If distance is reported incorrectly, no one will give you a ticket.

Lol. The comparison chart in the end of the video puts model x first and ix second, but the range of model x acording to the chart was in the summer and of the ix in winter. So comparing diferent test conditions is not correct or fair.

He just hasn’t tested the model X in the winter so he’s using the best data available. Plus it’s an older model and the newer ones would get even better range and efficiencies. From what I’ve seen the newer model X gets even better range and efficiency in the winter than that old one got in the summer

The car is probably good. But the Ladestau confirmed it for me, there is still no alternative for Tesla if you need charging on route. For me that is a least every holliday... And yes i have seen many Ladestau in Germany also at the public chargers. Then again, Tesla cannot deliver S or X...

It wouldn't be comparable to the cars he tested in Europe as there are completely different conditions. When the Model 3 came out he first tested it in the US but re-did it all in Europe with quite a notable difference in range and consumption. Imo would make sense for entertainment purpose but useless for proper comparisons.

I think EV's have great advantages, but this is kind of the reference of how an EV should NOT be: Huge battery, huge car, poor efficiency and lower interior quality than combustion equivalent. Also, I can't agree with this Tesla - like interior when BMW did great interior designs that were ergonomics and easy to use references. This is a nonsense. A Tesla model 3 has a manufacuring carbon footprint that can easily be diluted in less than 100.000 km, even with a good share of non renewable electricity production, so it will be better for the environment than a fossil car after that point. But that's because it is efficient and has a reasonable size battery. With such a huge battery as this BMW, the manufacuring carbon footprint is signiflicantly higher, and the poor efficiency doesn't help to reach the equilibrium point with an ICE car in a reasonable amount of km. This is certainly an EV, but I am not sure these kind of EV's are green in any sense. It makes no sense IMHO that a small Fiat Panda (with really low power and pollutant emissions) needs a fake hybrid system while this kind of vehicles and others such a Plugin hybrid Range Rover are seen as "Environmentally friendly" cars. I think we are completely losing the point here. Unless the point is filtering who can use a car based on the size of his wallet.

Your soundbattle BMW vs Tesla the BMW will win always, even more so when you have a press car from BMW which is no were close to production car, Tesla dont do press cars, so nice to hear that you mention “this is a press car” so you will never find anything small finish ish issues on presscars.

Incorrect. Tesla has press cars. And the BMW press car is in fact a production car. After it has done 10k km, it will be sold to a private person as a 2nd hand "demo car".
