BMW iX3 2021 is a fully electric car (SUV). It has 210 kW (286 HP) and 400 Nm engine with RWD. Batteries: 80 kWh gross (74 kWh net). BMW claims (electric power consumption combined): 19.5 - 18.5 kWh/100 km (31.4 - 29.9 kWh/100 mi | 3.2 - 3.6 mpkWh) and up to 460 km (285 mi) range.
I checked BMW iX3 on a trip with city driving (also with traffic jam), highway (autobahn) and country roads. Finally I achieved such energy consumption: 14.5 kWh/100 km (23.3 kWh/100 mi | 4.29 mpkWh) and used ~25% of the battery (18 kWh in total). In other words: it is possible to achieve ~500 km (310 mi) range with this car! Really efficient!

I have my iX3 6 months now, and am averaging at around 20kWh/100km. Always in eco-pro mode an max regeneration (and airco or heating on). I have a moderate driving style, which means I’m no racer but also no slug. Every now and then enjoying the 400Nm torque. Still am absolutely chuffed with this car!

Thanks for the test! I was really waiting for that due to the new electric machine integrated. Almost no German with such a strong car would have driven that slow. At least 2 times one would have overtaken a lorry and 130 kph on Autobahns with speed limit 120 is normal. Nevertheless energy consumption seems impressively low.

Thank you. I have ordered the car for my parents as it does not look like pure EV car and efficiency was apparently excellent. Now you have confirmed what others were saying. Btw. my E-Tron gets 28 kW/h in winter on 20 inch wheels and air conditioning at 21 degrees, and 22-24 kw/h in other seasons on 21 inch wheels and air conditioning at 21 degrees.

Very forgiving/prudent driving. At most this counts for city driving based on the speed, even mixed city and highway is difficult to claim as 100kph was rarely if ever exceeded. If you wanted to get a result based on your driving style that's fine but it's not a good result to compare with others. Generally you'd want to maintain a higher constant speed for highway driving like 90kph is good for combined and 120kph for highway. Lower speeds are feasible on many European roads but we don't usually cherry pick the best case scenarios to compare different cars.
@1001cars
@1001cars 3 жыл бұрын
It is impossible to achieve 90 km/h combined speed with typical city and highway driving. Maybe if you drive like 200 km at target sped like 120 km/h and 10 km in a city (avg. speed 25 km/h), ok it is possible to get ~90 km/h overall. Usually to achieve 120 km/h average you have to drive 140 km/h in normal road conditions. Checking what is energy consumption at 90/120/140 km/h is different story and of course I check it, what you can easily see in my other movies.

Very good consumption video as always. Thank you. I have some suggestions for further improvement. You might consider to provide: - Outdoor temperature (a range is also ok) during the test - Set temperature of air conditioning - Tyre size and brand/model used (maybe also with the pressure values) And some questions for this specific video: - Do you know if the cabin heating is with resistive element or a heat pump? I see that you set the temperature to 17. Was it heating or cooling I could not understand :) - Have you conditioned (warmed up) the batteries before starting driving? I think if you charged the batteries just before driving, the answer would be "yes"?
@1001cars
@1001cars 3 жыл бұрын
1. I had to set quite low cabin temperature to higher the record time of GoPro cameras (they have problems during long recordings in such conditions). So it was: cooling. iX3 has heat pump. 2. No, the car was waiting for me more than hour after previous driver finished his test.

Good test. Would have liked to have seen more data on flat sections (without truck slipstreaming) at 120, 110, 100 km/h. The short sections we had at these speeds seemed to have elevation changes or otherwise unstable consumption readings. However, all round, the efficiency looks pretty impressive for this size/shape of vehicle.

How does it work the regen in this iX3 ? How strong is B mode ? Thanks so much :=)
@1001cars
@1001cars 3 жыл бұрын
You have... 5 different options: Adaptive recuperation, High, Medium, Low and B mode. High, Medium and Low is obvious, B mode is stronger than High (sth. like you know from i3). Adaptive works well: it uses recuperation to slow down (other, slower cars, speed limits etc.) as much as you need to feel safe and comfortable. It cooperates with driver assist professional. In most scenarios Adaptive recuperation is the best option. If you need to brake suddenly - for example you have seen a red light - it is enough to select "B" mode.

... and yes, the average speed was not very high, the highway consumption will be higher. But compared to the Audi e-tron test, where the average speed was even lower, this one is in a different league: Audi was taking 21.4kWh/100km at 33km/h average. One point that I see: the ECO PRO mode. This one either reduces or turns off AC/heating completely, plus reduces acceleration significantly. It's a "range" mode, I'm not using it in i3 as it takes away all the fun...

I bought BMW shares not only because of the iX3 tests. Calculate: (1) book value plus (2) profits plus (3) huge hidden reserves. The highly conservative book value in Germany is allready higher than the market capitalization and thus the share price far too low. Just calculate and compare. BMW is IMHO a Multibagger. Compare BMW to Tesla! Tenbagger?

But very realistic compared to other short tests of journalists...driving fast on Autobahn and complaining about high consumption. This is showing much better, what you can expect owning the car on daily basis...and 14.7 kwh is very impressive... nearly low as a Ioniq with a big SUV. I am waiting for your test of the future i4, which should be brilliant due to better shape.
