Depends what you do most in your car. Long motorway runs or trips on the continent take the M8 comp. As a fairly compact drivers car the M2 comp fills the M brief perfectly. Engaging, rewarding and most of all fun with some serious capability. M8 a grand tourer.

Totally agree. I’ve had an M850i and am M2 Competition and the M2 was so much more fun to drive. 8 series vastly capable but too detached from the experience.

I've been driving M-lites since 2014. I've had my current M240 for two years and want to change it this year. The M2C would be a contender. But to be honest I'm sick of looking at the same dash for six years. The 2 series coupe could really do with an up date.

Great vid, Joe! Your summary was spot on for me. What’s crazy to think is there’s room in-between for the M3, M4 & M5. For me, I think the M2, 4 & 5 are the magic numbers. Some great filming in this & I loved the overall balance of the review. May have to check royal steering - my stock alcantara wheel has done 10k and looks more like 50k!

Agree with your thoughts about the M8 being too wide for b-road blasts. I own an M2C but drove an M850 around Scotland for a week recently and felt the same. I will test your comment about the M2C not being suited to driving down to the south of France - I have a road trip to there in May. 😁

I'm with you on the feeling of fun on the road. Most modern cars are so good, you have to be going too quick to get your kicks. I've ended up going from a v8 m3 to a VW up gti and I'm having fun for more of the miles I'm doing now. I came close to buying an m2 but bmw have a bad rep for building engines with massive problems

It is astonishing how impractical the 8 series coupe is, especially when it comes to interior space. I was very interested in switching my 650xi for this car right after seeing the design, but then I got to sit inside and even though the front seems pretty much the same, my son (13y old) was not able to sit straight in the back. He is not happy using the back seat in 6 anyway, but that 850xi we were testing had even less space Overall, only the GC model seems like a way forward, at least for me. But not as a new one, I'll wait for it to depreciate a bit. Or few bits, at least :-)

The E31 850Csi is one lf my favorite cars of all time and BMW really screwed up bringing it back. The original was sophisticated, elegant, ahead of it's time in design. The AMG S65 Coupe is the perfect example of what the G15 should have been like because the S65 Coupe will be remembered as one of the most beautiful cars ever just like the E31. But they made the G15 a teenage car that just looks like an M2. The original didn't have a B Pillar that defined the design and it launched with a V12 and it was larger than the E39 5 Series that launched 4 years later. The G15 isn't ugly or bad. I just think they screwed up because it doesn't live up to the original because it's so far off it looks like they didn't even try to revive the classic.

Excellent video Joe as always now I agree with you on most of your opinions on the M2C as I now own one can agree it’s an amazing little M considering it’s the entry level M bmw has managed to tick off all the boxes. I must say I love the M8 as well but would like to see it up against the Mercedes S63 coupe and perhaps the Bentley continental GT to see how it holds up to its competitors.

U must be crazy to compere this cars and that’s what actually make this review very good. Well done. I am too old for M2 🤑 and I like V8 for everyday use it’s just so relaxing to drive. In fact this new V8 engine is not very hungry for petrol when u drive normally, it’s an excellent engine. This V8 is so good, Jaguar ans Land Rover decided to use it in their cars because they can’t make better V8 in future. 🤩 Das kk
