BMW should just start the production of E30s again. I know it's a small audience, but it wouldn't require a lot work to manufacture since they have all plans, and prototypes ready.

The E36 M3 is a great car the US spec may be not as good as it's European brother but the US spec e36 m3 is still a great car it's not our fault that BMW downgraded it because they "thought it would be to expensive" car and driver said it was best overall car in 1997 which says something

People often forget what the E36 really is, because of the shitty american version, and the relatively cheap interior quality. The E36 was (almost) as fast as an NSX, gave some serious troubles to Porsche's 911, had a specific power of 100hp/liter, has one of the best specific output of torque for it's time (350nm out of a 3.2), was said to be the best handling car of the 20st century by Car & Driver magazine, and was the first BMW to have the double Vanos engine, with the 3.2 EVO M3. A cool fact is that in fourth gear it pulls harder than a Ferrari Testarossa. It also happens to age well, with this in temporal badass look, and actually when you see an E36 M3 with a white leather interior, it's actually pretty nice ! The M3 GT special version was a pretty sharp car, being lighter and with a revised S50B30 making 295 horspower, with a sweet green paint. The E36 deserves as much love as the others. THEY ARE ALL GREAT !

I can only agree with you. But in fact all european cars sufer undes some big changes on US market.. That US model and EU model are not same car. Only name is same. POrsche is also bad inn my eyes in US. Here by us is much better. My 36 is black with black interior. I saved him original as he can bee. For me he's perfect like he is. I just placed him 18" wheels from E39 M5. Now he's perfect..

Kaisuke971 tnx mate.. Yes that wheels look just like they are maked for him. same as style 32 for E30.. I think it's inportant to know what goes on what car. It's like art. Everything looks different on different model. Like Alpinas wheels on E31 850. :) I think about to make some video. We will see until summer :))

I will never understand why the e36 is always overlooked on every comparison. Yes, the NA version was less powerful but the car was still faster than the e30 it replaced. Plus, it is beautifully styled, cheap to maintain and an excellent daily road car and track car. It is my personal favorite M car and i just wish more BMW enthusiasts would really see the car for all its potential and value. "My two cents"

in my opinion, that E36 seems to be a 325i, with pack M/// but not an M3..the e36 m3 have 2 front doors and absolutly not the "old orange turn light"!! lolol..(sorry, but that m3 havent 321 cv (236 kw - 316 hp).It was the e36 in M//OTOR Sport whos bring the magic to the public..Good reportage but, the e36 could have more merit...

Bill Me Whatever. BMW once made an acceptable car. Now, you cannot even check the oil level! They expect you to replace the entire cooling system around 70K! That is a joke. Parts are far too expensive. And all that plastic underhood is the opposite of engineering. BMW's are no longer good cars. Run flats and the computers have ruined what used to be a drivers car.

I am huge BMW fan. i always wanted one.. List was to long. First I wanted E28 M5, thenE30,then E34 M5 then E32 then E36 M3 at on end E31 850.. Now I own E36 M3 3,2 liter from 1993 :)) Only stupid thing is that that I cant have all these cars. To much money.. Modern BMW's are also great but i am old school guy :)

Each generation of the M3 has its own fanbase... No need to fight... :p The E30, even for the non-M, generally has more feedback compared to the later versions. It's compact, lighter for the 4 cylinder version. I'm biased towards the E30 as I have a E30 318is. for a dynoed 126rwhp, it's not that fast but I had the suspension set up nicely and it's rewarding to drive... can keep up with the more powerful but heavier E36 325i up to about 200kph..

Actually this fella doesn't know the story well about DTM. The BMW was in touring car championships alongside Alfa 75, Sierra RS500, Volvo's. Than Mercedes had to launch a race car. Because they were not able to build performance engine in small capacity, hired Cosworth to produce the 2.3 16V engine. The 190 Evo 1 was born. Then it was not good enough against BMW, Mercedes gave pressure on FIA and DTM to allow bigger engines. The 2.5 16V engines were realesed in BMW's and Merc's. Evo Sport against AMG Evo 2. Audi step in 1990 when rules were loose. And from then BMW started to falling back and quit in 1992 after good few of champion titles. Still M3 E30 is the most succesful racecar ever build. During it's competitive era it won at least 3 championship every year somewhere in the world!

I've owned a few Porsches and also a European version E36 M3, and I can tell everyone here that the E36 covers the ground like a scalded cat - it is extremely quick and nimble. I don't know what the U.S version was like, but the German spec one I had was brilliant! At the moment I have an E30 325is, and that's no slouch either, so the E30 M3 must be awesome. The E46 must be great to drive, but looks wise, too bulky and bloated for my tastes. For me, it's the E30 and E36.

Mid-80s and early 90s were a great era for cars. Shame their heritage hasn't quite passed over to today's cars. AE86, the E30, RX7 just to name a few. These were cars that had amazing performance value and unbelievably aggressive styling.

So I've been looking for an m3 now for my first car that I want to keep for awhile and put money into to keep it great and have no problems. I have at the most $10,000 but am wanting to get one for around $8,000 and put some into it like exhaust and other items. What I'm wanting to know is my price range good to find a great e36 already or if I can find a e46 would it be worth it? I don't know which one to choose I like the interior better of the e46 but I like the kinda square and boxy look of the e36 better. I've seen some in the laguna Seca blue and have at learn decided what color I want. Lol. It's just so hard to choose!

I know it doesn’t have the horsepower of the later model but I’d take the E30 over the rest. Lighter,responsive,and better looking than all the rest. It looks the part. I’d give anything to have mine back again. Metallic grey and Cardinal red interior.

E30 M3 was easily the best car, but they are now ridiculously priced, The E36 M3 is not all too great TBH, but the E36 318ti (hatchback) is so much better, just not enough power, but that can always be easily fixed. And then the E46 was the last true BMW and they made it look like a race car. Easily the most fun car I have ever driven, and those saying it has "engine problems." You are right, if you don't maintain and properly use the engine it will have problems, just like any BMW engine.
