BMW M4 Competition Destroyed my Expectations - Review of the all new G82 M4 Competition

Last week I was loaned this Isle of Man Green BMW G80 M4 Competition by the team at Rybrook BMW Worcetser.
Their current demo car - this one came with some very special spec and as you will hear, outstanding performance as standard!
Join me as we put the car through it's paces. Everything from Motorway to Broad blasts with a car meet at Wheels on Wednesday thrown into the mix.
We discuss the controversy surrounding "those grilles" along with the development of the car from the previous generation.
The new S58 unit paired with the ZF8 Gearbox.

I was so excited to drive the new M Car - and why wouldn't you be! The M Division have form in delivering fantastic all round drivers cars.
BUT THIS ONE came with soo much media hype - so many journalists and influencers praising the car - could it all be hype?
I had two days to find out!

Love the new M4, loved the press shots on release in Sao Paolo Yellow but now I really do want it in Isle of Man green.... just gotta decide between the black and the cream interior choices..... how did you find the black interior?

Hi Adam I found the black very stealth and smart. These were also NOT the carbon buckets - the stock seats were super comfortable with plenty of adjustment

I much prefer the new m4 to the new m3 unlike the last version. I'd spec it in sapphire black and get the wheels coloured gold like the m2cs👌great honest review, agree with ya about them grills.

Depends on a number of things chap in what you are looking for… But it is leagues apart in capability etc (And cost) 😂

The chassis video BMW let out show how serious this car is, supercar level of bracing. The weight reminds me of the GTR effect, Nissan could have made it lighter but to help get power down and for average people to get grip at non-aero speeds (I e. On the street) they made it circa 1700kg. Everyone is lighter is better and to a point they're right, but depends on the intended driving style and environment. These are going to tune to 700-750bhp stage two maybe, with xdrive will be brutal though as you've pointed out already they're ballistic!

More weight is never a good thing. Yes, you have more weight forcing the tyres into the tarmac, but the tyres also have to deal with bigger forces, particularly in the bends, which is why BMW compensated with insane 275mm fronts. The GT-R is heavy because it's massive, not because Nissan wanted it to be.

Great video matey 🙌🏻! Honest and real world review. I’m very much indifferent to the front grills, they aren’t good looking, so I came to the non committing decision that they just ‘are’ 😂. What are your thoughts on the standard seats? A lot of people rave about the carbon buckets but the 60yr old man trapped in my 31yr old body says it’s got to be the standard seats for I doubt a bit more comfort...

Thank you for the view and comments Simon. I was very impressed with the standard seats and would suggest unless you are going to track it and not do long journeys in the car - that the standard make A LOT more sense.

@@CarMadDad by all accounts the new m2 is supposed to have that engine in just a de tuned version but reliability doesn’t seem to be the top of their list with that engine IMO it’s geared more towards performance

Seems a missed opportunity to not offer the slightly lower bhp/manual combo in the U.K to me. I guess they wouldn't sell anyway, which is just the way the car market is going.

i agree with you - the last m4 looked incredible and was so excited about the next one. But BMW have ruined the design of these. Its totally puts me off owning one after having an F82

Granted the novelty is in place but can’t help but think either BMW will do an LCI on the overblown nostrils or the auto will be a dust bunny by 2022. BMW’s arrogance with their take it or leave it attitude, not cool. Nice clip by BTW, a calm & well spoken review.

I hate to say it but… it is growing on me. It might be simply because the whole package makes me thirsty but the front is just not offensive to me anymore, especially in that colour. I guess I’m lucky that I’ll never be able to afford one anyway so I won’t need to go through the problem of telling everyone that it grows on you!!!

I genuinely believe in time it will become “palatable” as more and more large grilles come out of Germany. It’s not horrific - but you can’t deny that the alternatives that people are designing are better looking! Will have to get you in one Jon!!!

how is the fake engine sound piped into the cabin? is it cringe?

Its not too bad Steve and very "organic" as i believe that its a microphone in the engine (could be wrong here). Truth be told I have this turned off in my M2 but would keep it in the M3/M4 as tested as it didn't really think about it until I handed it back (so obviously didn't stand out that much).
