In case anyone is wondering, the Coolant doesn't come pre-diluted. you need to add distilled water (DO NOT ADD TAP WATER or you will ruin your engine),

Well heck! I wished I had watched this video last week! I just bought a 2016 M235i with 43K miles. During the pre-purchase inspection, the mechanic recommended a coolant system flush because somebody had used the wrong coolant (green). I had that done the coolant flush done the day after the purchase, exactly nine day ago! I really like your videos - great recommendations for maintaining my BMW and preventing future trouble. I have the charge pipe ordered (due to arrive in July) after watching your "common problems with N55 engines" video (which I watched before the purchase!) I am really glad that you still have your bimmer, and are continuing to make videos!

Green could also be BMWs new HT-12 coolant. If the car was recently serviced at a dealer, they probably filled it with that.
@luisvargas45772 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend you use the VTT supplied o-ring because it’s slightly too big thus will get pinched while tightening and flange won’t sit flush to engine. I used OEM o-ring and it went in without any force and I was able to sit flange flush to engine. I think it’s easier to drain coolant from water pump hose. I used funnels to collect coolant as I removed hose. If reusing 10mm bolts be careful when thightening them. I did hand thought plus 90° degree turn and zero leaks. I also reused the coolant hose by cutting it right past the plastic flange. Then inserted VTT coolant flange into hose. Easier this way than trying to remove hose clamp from thermostat side

If you are unable to hear the water pump starting to purge the system, set a 10 second timer and it should start to bleed the system. Sometimes it may require a battery charger to be connected.

Silicon hose is not always more reliable. It does degrade but at slower rate. It don’t care for cold or heat. With age it actually gets softer. 10+ years. Never the less . The biggest downfall of silicone hose is it’s low resistance to cuts or friction against anything. So if using silicone. Please use some kind of friction reducing material. Weaved nylon shielding or even split conduits like ones that are used for electrical harness. All that said the best solution is always just not to have a friction in the first place. If your silicone hose does not in fact ever rub on anything. You can leave it alone. Also. Carful tightening clamps. Silicone is much softer. You can easily cut it and cause leaks from over tightening clamps. All and all silicone is way to go just keep friction away from it. I’ve replaced every single hose on my semi tractor with a silicone alternative. Those downfalls of silicone I’ve learned are from personal experience. Just consider. In last 600 000 miles . And 5 years of using them on a semi tractor. Day and night. Most if not all are still holding up. Additional note. My silicone hose have outlasted some clamps. Usually this don’t ever happen. But then again usually hose don’t last 10 + years. Thanks for the video. Great tips .

Can you replace the hose and flange with out doing the coolant flush or will coolant leak if I just replace the hose and flange
@Deftones4452 жыл бұрын
Coolant is definitely going to leak, to replace the flange to the aluminum one you have to replace the whole line, and it goes down to the thermostat. It’s honestly a pretty easy hose to replace fritz did do a few extra steps draining the coolant at the aux radiator, which isn’t fully necessary, but it does help prevent making a mess.
