It’s so cool seeing this in documentary form! I’m friends with Matt’s son and I remember him talking about how absolutely scary it was knowing there was a crash but not knowing who it was and if they’re ok. The driver was not familiar with the car beyond the limit so he didn't know what to do when the car understeered off into a tree. The SUV has too much weight on the nose.

He entered the corner too fast and began the turn prematurely, which led to the wrong arc. It's definitely a case of driver error, but it's also possible they lacked practice on this particular track. That corner does seem quite tricky.

Having a stripped down BMW with a roll cage doesn't show anything. I'm sure if they invested in the roll cage they also tweaked the suspension and engine as well. Looks like it developed a "push." Looked like he had the steering wheel turned to the left looking at his hand(s) and it kept going straight. Maybe a tire problem. Glad he's ok. Keep diggin' you'll get it.

It’s called understeer. What else do people expect from a ‘performance vehicle’ that weighs more than 2.9 tonne!

It seems the incident was primarily due to driver error. The crux of the issue looks to be the driver's approach to the corner - entering a turn too quickly and starting the maneuver too early, which resulted in being on the wrong arc. It's possible the driver wasn't familiar with the track (or just not with this heavy car). Thankfully, he's okay, which is the most important thing. I wouldn’t blame BMW for this, looks like the car is very safe as he got out without a scratch.

Next time, don't accelerate and don't press the car brake on a slope at high speeds because you loose grip very easy! He suppose to apply brake before that slope and drive safely all the time.
