I joined your channel back when you decided to move from the CB500X to the blue rally T7 but then returning to the 500X I think I lost my way when you moved to the RE411 as I thought that bike is just too boring…😅 Now back to the other extreme on a R1300GS - a bike I could never bring myself to buy as it is just too overkill for me 😊 I love how you keep your interest in ADV bikes and don’t hesitate to put your money where your heart takes you 🍻🍻 Thanks 🙏

You nailed it on the head for me with the panniers - if a manufacturer makes top loading panniers that fit into the vario case fittings, they can pretty much name their price.

Great video, I love my one also for exactly the same reasons, I have the adaptive ride height on mine and I love that too. Those roads look excellent , I will come to Norway one day , I watched ragnarok on Netflix I think it was and ever since then have had a fascination with the country , it always looks so clean and I love the cold and snow in winter but I digress. I have no regrets getting my gs, I came from a 1250 rt and I absolutely love the 13gs, the rs will be dropping soon so that will be interesting, my mate is r/s mad.. the 13 gs a LOT easier to clean to. I have also has the 1100,1150,1200 and 1250 gs’s. Thanks again for the video

Similar bike and spec to mine although I don't have adaptive ride height or side spots. The adaptive cruise is a great feature. Mine is October 2023 UK registered. The Vario brackets are easy to remove and tuck the wiring away safely, Touratech Zega Pro 38L pannier in black added on my bike they are superb way better than the Vario, robust and practical. For anyone thinking about it I would say go for it. Mine bike is 6500 miles/10k kilometres now and I am very happy with it although I think it could look a little prettier at the front end.

I tried to remove them but two of the bolts removed is too long after the brackets are removed. Did you buy some new bolts ?

@@thetubelesschannel I had the Touratech pannier brackets to fit in their place instead so maybe they took care of any alignment/bolt size issues

Love your videos Sven … I got the same bike (Triple Black) 2 weeks ago. Fitted the Givi top box (slightly bigger version for helmet) and the Chigee AIO. Other extras I’ve done so far … H&B crash bars, H&B hand bars, SW Motech side stand extender. I never had a GS before because I thought just a bit too big but this one is the goldilocks version for sure. Agreed with everything you say …. Yes we need panniers to fit Vario mounts … in the meantime I’ll make do with soft bags strapped to the back. 😊👍👍

I use a Givi Dolomiti 46l for touring with Kriega soft panniers, security with lightweight luggage

Very comprehensive, Sven. I'm not a fan of lots of electronics, but i admire the technology and what is available and what it can achieve. I agree that to go in a very different direction is very brave. How do you change the best selling big bike in the world? Just picked up my 452 Himmy. Love this bike, too. Currently running it in. Its name is "Røldalsfjellet" a detour from mainroad E134 just northeast of village Røldal. Its the old E134 outside røldal tunnel. :-)

I’ve have riden a Gold wing for 10 years, after that a Valkyrie for 10 years. I now own a 1300 GS 719. Some complaints…. Yes but few and minor. This bike is much more satisfying to ride.

Lots of faults and recalls on a new bike, I believe sales were suspended in the US and all bikes were recalled, refrain from use until works carried out. I spoke to a motorcycle recovery agent at an autoroute service area, he said that he has dealt with many breakdowns of 1300s, usually related to electrician/computer problems. His advice, ride a 1100/1150 GS very rarely breakdown, he should know!

@@thetubelesschannel The computers and electrical systems became problematic with owners increasingly unable to service their bikes. The recovery techs are probably the best people to have an opinion on the most reliable bikes. He informed me that most BMWs that break down, there is little they can do to get them back on the road, they are usually transported to a dealer.

@jeanjacques9980 I serviced my R1200GS myself. The canbus system is far better than conventional systems....with a proper tool (which I bought) you may read out faults and reset servicecounter. But I never had ANY electrical problems with my two R1200GS. I think you are talking with an outdated mechanic with no education in modern bike electronic. Its a lot of them who dont want to learn new things. They just HATE it. The world is moving forward :-)

@@thetubelesschannel I completely disagree with your opinion that everything is rosy in the garden of BMW Motorrad. Yes canbus wiring has many advantages and some disadvantages. The recovery tech was highly experienced and well educated. His comments were based on his experience of recoveries, gsa 1250 is one of the most popular models in France, both with riders and thieves, it’s number the one most stolen bike in France. The tech said he had many recoveries of the 1200 when it was launched and for a couple of years following, he said the 1250 was worse and he has made quite a few recoveries of the 1300, the sales figures relatively low in terms for the number of recoveries. Don’t forget that the sale of the 1300 had to stopped in America due to a number of issues including fires, bmw would be bankrupted by the American courts system. I tend to believe the road side recovery tech, he has no skin in game, although statistically he only encounters broken down bikes. You may have been lucky, many have not had the same experience. BMW let their early adopters do their product testing for them, the Japanese on the other hand test their bikes relentlessly before launch. Finally a BMW Motorrad Tech with 30+ years experience advised me that if I considered purchasing a 1250 GS/GSA never let it go out of warranty, keep paying when the initial manufacturer’s warranty expires, not a ringing endorsement from those in the know

I have ridden the 1300GS a few times and fine it MUCH worse than my 1250GS. The seat is more uncomfortable, the rider triangle is more uncomfortable, the riding position is more uncomfortable, I think its garbage!

Lots of faults so far, no service manuals available for once it's out of warranty, and a shaft drive thats now a service item at owners cost. Just no, BMW.

Very few faults, every new model has its share...they are sorted out, I have 5 years of warranty. Never had any problems with shaft drive, those who had on previous models get them replaced (also those with no problems at 60.000 km service).

Ugly, overly expensive, too prone to faults. On my 3rd and final GS (1250). Incredible that owners of the new bike spend big money and then patiently wait for problems to be fixed.... now its suspension failures apparently too..... 😮

Beautiful, very few faults that is covered under warranty. If you speak with R1250 GS owners they admit that they also had some issues sorted out. Thats incredible 🙂
