Thanks for this information. I’m particularly impressed that while you’re letting folks know you have certain tools for sale, you give tips on how to make the tool too. It’s clear you love what you’re doing and in teaching your craft! Good luck with your move to North Carolina!

Are there two OT marks ? One for each cylinder, how do you tell if the cylinder you're working on is using the correct OT mark ?

Thanks for the great video, how do I know when I have to replace the Clutch parts? You replaced it with a newer version right? Could I do that as well with my 1977 R100/7 ? Thanks a gain for all the helpful videos!
@boxer2valve4 жыл бұрын
When the clutch starts to slip, or if you notice oil leaking excessively from the area between motor and gearbox, you'll want to have a look at the clutch. If none of the above, ride. Thanks for your comments!

William, how do you keep the flywheel/clutch assembly from rotating when you remove the clutch bolts? Do you have an allen wrench on the alternator? Or did you already have the strap on the alternator, and that's enough to keep the engine from rotating? Thanks again for these great videos!
@boxer2valve4 жыл бұрын
Ian: Imagine the bolt that you are loosening at 9:00 looking at the flywheel from the rear of the bike. Position your tool so that it is vertical, facing up to 12:00. When you crack it loose, the flywheel is less likely to turn and the bolt will loosen. If that doesn't work, place a flat screwdriver through the timing hole and into the teeth of the starter ring gear of the flywheel.

@@boxer2valve Thanks so much! You know, at first I was comparison price shopping for parts, but I don't bother to now. Your prices are good, but more important to me, your service is great, and the fact you take time to answer questions here is greater!

This stuff is so helpful. I know basics of mechanic procedures, but how could I know about (without any BMW airhead experience) that inside washer that could fall off? Thank you, thank you, thank you, for sharing your knowledge with us!

My crank slid forward because the strap I used broke. How do I tell if the front thrust bearing fell off :(
@boxer2valve5 жыл бұрын
If the thrust washer fell off, the crankshaft will not turn when the flywheel bolts are tightened. First replace the strap. Then you can try reinstalling the flywheel and screw in the bolts. Just finger tighten at first and you will be able to turn the crankshaft easily. Now very carefully tighten 1 of the crankshaft bolts very slightly and continue to turn the crankshaft back and forth. If the movement of the crankshaft gets hard or locks up, STOP. The thrust washer probably fell off. If after tightening one bolt, the crank still spins freely, tighten another, then all and if it still turns freely, take a deep breath and a sigh of relief and torque the bolts.
