Great honest review, I had a deposit on an Msport but was messed around so much by BMW I cancelled and bought a 2018 R1M, bearing in mind that we all put deposits down without even riding the thing, imagine my trepidation when I eventually got to ride one, well I can hand on heart say I had no feeling of regret whatsoever! Yes it was a bit quicker than the Yamaha in a straight line but it didn’t feel as fun, didn’t have the character or the soul. And it certainly didn’t have the giggle factor that the R1 has, and the big thing is it didn’t make me feel special when I was riding it and certainly doesn’t make you turn round for one last glance as you walk away from it. It was a bit to clinical and German for my liking. Before the R1M I had a HP4 Carbon for three years, that felt more special than the new S1KRR.

Good perspective. I’ve owned mine for 4 mths and I agree with its road credentials. It’s the sort of bike that feels better the harder you push it. Problem is that is always waaay above speed limits. It’s stressful because you need to push it to enjoy but then stressing a cop is about to put a radar on you and your license is about to get torched. If you own it you need to stretch its legs at the track. Otherwise i think it is very versatile. With the standard suspension you can go from a sporty road setup to a very stiff track platform all within the current system.

Really like the fast paced bullet point review, that works well ! also like the honesty, 9K miles is probably 18 months riding for me so its a really good length of time / mileage to be honest about the bikes feel & performance. One question though ..... does it feel 'special' ? for £20K its not just about performance and power and speed .... it needs to feel special.

@@relate97 Even if you are athletic it will hurt your back. Let's just be honest guys, if you aren't riding on track on a REGULAR basis , then buying a supersport type of bike is frankly stupid. The only reason you can logically defend it is for the looks of the bike and that's it. A naked type bike is superior in every, single, way, for the great majority of riders.

So to confirm, the '19 S1000R outperforms against the previous long term test where you reviewed the '17 GSXR 1000 and in 2020 the S1000 is still best road bike? I can't wait to take the V4S out. I took the S1000 out today and it does everything very well - great stopping power, ferocious top end, great dash and quickshift but I can relate to your point, it almost felt characterless and clinical. I jumped back on my Gen1 Mille and rode away smiling when I expected it feel like a bag of spanners.

Probably the best review I've seen of any bike . Based on long term experience and well presented. Looks like an excellent bike, if you are going to do track days. I've even heard some argue the 47 BHP of an A2 bike is enough for the road, although I wouldn't go that far. On the road anything much more than 100 BHP is pretty much unusable. A 47 BHP bike will do the "ton" , and 100 BHP bikes do about 130 MPH and get to 60 MPH in about 4 seconds. However I would like one of these and take it on the track !
@jackmccourt61802 жыл бұрын
>100hp on the road is absolutely usable, not legally right enough but my 140hp ninja 1k can certainly open up on a nice straight no problem. My GS though makes a similar peak HP figure but the torque makes it absolute bliss for road driving.

The only thing I enjoyed heavily about this 17' year FZ-09 I have, in the electronic rider aid suite, is the ABS sensors make gearing changes possible without a speedo recalibration. Do the electronics work? ABS, yes, too good, let ME slow down, turn it off. TCS, yes, always off though, use it like a valet feature or buddy bike. Throttle map power modes, meh, redundancy. This BMW just feels like another pond reflection of these digital intrusions to the motorcycle experience, which is doing no favors to helping grow motorcycle volume sales or enthusiasm if you ask me. I did, thoroughly find this review less than dull, Danke.

I've seen several reports now saying its one of the best bikes, if not the best, to ride, but the reliability (of BMW in general) is not good, failure rates far above the Japanese bikes and down there with Indian and Moto Guzzi. Just wondered if you had any issues with the long termer or if anyone else has had any major issue? Asking not to slate the BMW, but because I do like and am tempted once the lockdown had finished. Cheers. (Not bothered with things like fork seals, more so anything that is a major pain).
