BMW X6M: Ridiculous fast, and... ridiculous.

The Smoking Tire caps off our Ultimate BMW Road Trip with a private day at BMW's test track in Spartanburg, SC. Since we've already tested the M3 and 1M, we take the X6M Crossover on the track to see if there is something it's actually useful for. We are surprised.

thank you. The Raptor, unless you're talking about attempting to park it in a tiny garage, is actually MORE useful than a regular F150, at least for the things we use it for. It's wider, so it corners flatter when we're filming. It's got a smooth suspension, so the shots we get look better. It can haul just as many people, but with the 6.2L engine, it goes faster. And it's great off-road, and holds all our equipment just fine. The regular F150 only beats it in max payload, which we don't need.

I tried to race one of these in my heavily-modded e36 M3, on the highway...my GPS read 155mph, when the X6m passed me like I was sitting still and pulled about 1/8th of a mile lead and slowed down. At 155 he blew my doors off, I have no clue how fast he was going...probably had the same software tune I did, which would mean a top-end of about 180mph for the x6M

Yes, the X5M and X6M come with Dunlop SP Sportmaxx SST RunFlat tires. In all fairness, we didn't take the X6M out on the street to test ride quality, but the tires did handle 50 laps around Spartanburg quite well. I'm doing the One Lap of America next week in the X5M, and we will be able to test the ride quality over 3,200 miles of driving. Check updates from our website!

I've driven all the M cars around that same track. Matt is right on about the way the X6M feels. It weighs 5500 + pounds with a couple of people in it, and driving it fast felt like you were defying the laws of physics. Towards the end we were doing just utterly stupid things in the thing just to see if we could make it crash, but short of actually deliberately steering the thing into a tree we couldn't. It's like owning a pet pterodactyl...useless, but unbelievably cool.

Truthfully I first thought this car was ugly too, but after dad got one, I realized it doesnt actually look bad, it looks half decent, when you are there and you got a full 3D context of the car, it looks great, and it isnt the M series to, but it has a Supersprint Exhaust and an ECU on it to make up for it, it produces near the same amount of power, give or take.

I saw one at the dealership in Smithtown, NY and I really like it,I think it is a gorgeous vehicle and I hope I will get to own one one day.Especially after Matt Farah's review on the smoking tire as well as Motor Trend's review I see that it truly is in keeping eith BMW'S slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine". Suv's have no right to be that fast and stable but BMW has defied convention. They even use the magnetic shocks that GM has licensed which are normally on the Corvette. Very smart decision, Kudos !

We made this film back in October, and the new M5's weren't out yet. It was either the M3, which we'd already tested, the 1M, which we'd already tested, or the old M5, which was basically out of production at the time. The X6M was fun as hell on the track though .

In 2010 - not crazy about the look. In 2019 - I bought one.... as the look grew on me. I got rid of my 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and does not regret it ONE BIT. I smoked a 2018 Subaru WRX STi and now the owner wants a X6M. Very hard to find. Yes a friend of my Sisters just got one last month (the diesel not the M! Still spent $100,000 on it though) to replace her 320D - so I finally had a good close look at one - horrific looking thing on the outside and so damn expensive too, but the interior was very nice - really doesn't seem very large on the inside considering it's not small on the outside though. They want the speed of a sports car but like the ride height of an SUV and the AWD feature (that they never use for offroading in an SUV anyways). Get one or the other (Sports car or SUV). Crossovers are the stupidest fucking vehicle segment since you lose the cargo space appeal and the offroad capabilities of an SUV, and since this thing is such a barge you don't get the speed that you would had you went with the M3 or M5.

I've owned my E60 M5 for 7,500 miles and have not had to add a single quart of oil. I make no attempt at driving frugally and redline it at least once per drive. Maintaining a V10 will never be cheap, but you're paying for exclusivity and the S85 certainly feels like a special motor.

The X6M is just supposed to be a more 'stylish' X5M. Underneath, they are mechanically identical (and the X5M is actually a little bit faster due to weight and aerodynamics). I wouldn't say the M5 does everything it does, because with a good set of winter tires, the X6M is probably a hoot in the snow, and the M5 would be a nightmare. I don't think the suspension is up for off-roading. Check out our review of the X5-35d, it was great off road!

This is a niche car and is only for some folks that like fast cars and have the money to spend on them. I don't care if other people like my car they aren't paying for it. A totally clueless opinion. I put 35k miles on my X6M and find this car awesome in performance and technology. It is an everyday car that shines and never works up a sweat. There is nothing like it. My wife has a 2014 Cayenne turbo fully loaded which cost 40% more (!) but I prefer the X6M. I also had ferraris, several Aston Martins, I currently have a Aston Virage, I had MBZ AMGs but the X6M is totally unique and the reason why I already have 35k miles on it - usually I sell at 10k miles. Sorry Matt, you should stick to your chevy's and lexuses.

I own one and love it. i own also f13 BMW m6 and the first month i didn't like it because I'm not use to so big heavy ride. But now I use it even more then my m6 because is all-round car and the M6 is for more special events :)

I dont think this car is pretty in a conventional way! The proportions might be a little strange but (at least if you see it live on the road) the aggression and the power this car sends out are just phenominal. So I would never call that car ugly.
