Technically yes but it would be difficult to get the level correct given there is a certain amount of fluid in the transmission at any given time. That said I've done this on a "$3000 special" I drove as a winter beater...It was an E90 BMW 3 series with the same ZF6HP transmission featured in this video. The transmission filler plug was stripped and a broken tranny cooler hose had leaked out a large amount of the fluid so I basically added enough fluid to get the car to engage reverse again (the first gear that will stop working with low fluid) plus about 3L by pumping the fluid into the hot side of the cooler line and the car still runs fine 30,000KM later. Funny enough when I did eventually get the filler plug loose I was only short about 250ml which is probably within the margin of error.

I used valvolene maxlife ref atf as it’s a higher mileage car The box had never shifted better in its life and it’s 3 years ago since I did it and still perfect it’s a quarter of the price of life guard 6 as well
