Wasn't it a flop when new? The E46 M3 CSL was the last true classic... all CS after this are ///Marketing special and the F80 CS was what how the F80 should have been from the start. Can you do a similar fantastic feature on the M2 family?

I own a 2018 M3 CS from new, and have covered 70 thousand kilometers, all highway kilometers. Including German Autobahn including top speed for extensive periods of time. The car is excellent for daily use. It is 3 cars in one, docile, sporty or just race car like (depending on the settings you choose). Therefore the price is justified. In my humble opinion.

Great video. I have an M3 CS (Lime rock with CCBs) and previously had a Comp Pack. The difference can only be appreciated when you've driven both. The CS is a much more confidence inspiring car than the Comp, plus, because of the returned suspension and lack of synthetic sound being pumped into the cabin, the CS is a much more pleasant place to spend time. Unless one day I get a chance to have an E46 CSL in Black, the CS will remain. Anyone wanting to sort the door sill creaking, take it to BMW Dealership and ask them to sort it with some special 3M tape around the seals that removes the friction and as such the noise.
@JamesBachiciChannel

Thanks Luke, glad you enjoyed it! LRG with CCBs, that's an awesome combo (and probably one of the rarer builds too!) and yes, I completely agree, driving the CS and the Comp over some time you'll definitely notice and feel the difference. Excellent pro tip on taking the car to the dealership - although they don't all respond with the same solutions from what I've heard. Still, good info! Enjoy your M3 CS and happy motoring 👍

Picked my M4 CS in San Marino blue up four weeks back. One owner from new, CCB's, GTS gearbox software, upgraded sound system, reverse camera and interior carbon pack. I lusted after this car after I saw one in the BMW showroom when I picked up my M140i in 2019, and I am certainly not disappointed with the car, and yes she is certainly a keeper. Keep up the great work my friend.

I'm thinking about a pre-owned one, but since the warranty will be toast by now, I'm worried about repair costs. BMWs aren't known for reliability. What are things like these days in that realm?
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I hear you, and great point to surface! It's definitely something I considered as well, but there are a few options at your disposal. You can seek out private owners that have purchased an extended warranty from BMW (either at the end of their leases, or outright when they financed/purchased the car) or you can try and find Certified Pre Owned vehicles that the dealerships may offer which include some form of warranty on their behalf. Of course these cars will fetch a bit more over vehicles that don't include a warranty, but that's a choice you'll need to make based on how comfortable you are with the idea of potentially having to pay for something out of pocket if things go south. Hope this helps, and happy car hunting! 😃

We appreciate the kinds words as well - glad you're happy with your M3 CS, and yes, not a lot of people are aware that the M Performance exhaust is an option. You can always add it later of course, but you may end up paying a bit more than you would as opposed to having it ordered with the M3 CS from the factory. Regardless, congrats on the M3 CS!

It’s finally here, and what a corker of a review it is too my bro. (See where some of IG clips come too lol.) Can see a lot of hard work and effort went into this and I hope you get the credit you deserve. Give yourself a pat on the back for this cos it’s truly one of the best reviews I’ve seen to date. Well done. 👏👏👏 The CS is defo a future classic imo, as most M cars will be eventually. One thing you didn’t mention (and maybe you don’t get this) is that due to the tiny clearance between the CCB callipers and wheels, the wheels getting really badly scored by trapped stones 😬. Wrt the CS designation, I’m with you, it should be Club Sport. I just looked at the press release and they don’t specifically call it a Club Sport but say “clear motor sport or club sport character but are also fully road legal”, unlike the M5CS where they actually say that’s a Competition Sport…🙄

Really appreciate the kind words and feedback! Great point about the larger calipers on the CCBs and the possibility of getting small debris jammed in! So whats the difference in the exhaust system? Can you factory upgrade it? to what?
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
The standard exhaust on the M3 CS from the factory is a steel setup, similar to that of the one found on the F80 Competition, but the tips are not black, they're just straight steel and the sound is a bit more aggressive to the Competition variant because of the different tune. You can upgrade that standard exhaust (like I did) with a factory M Performance titanium exhaust, and that's the much more aggressive, burbly/poppy sounding system that you see and hear in my review. At the time of production for the M3 CS you could either add it as an option from the factory at the time of order, or order it and have it installed at the dealership once the car was delivered. Hope this helps!

The review was excellent; I own 3 incredible cars (2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE; 2020 Mustang Shelby GT 350 and the 2018 BMW M3 CS). The BMW is by far my favorite. I'm thinkin about selling the car to purchase the new 2021 M3 Competition. Every time I'm ready to make a deal I hesitate and then stop. I believe the car will, in fact, be a classic down the road and command a ridiculous price on the auction block. I'm not sure what to do. If I keep the car until it gets that "classic designation" label, my usage of the car now will have to be cut back substantially. If I sell I can buy the fastest M3 produced to date. Any advice or thoughts will be appreciated.

Glad you liked my review, Roger! And wow, you've got quite the stable of cars! Top shelf from each respective manufacturer, well done! You ask a tough question. On the one hand, the used market is booming, the chip shortage is making new car manufacturing a nightmare for automotive companies so used cars are fetching a premium. On the other hand, the F80 M3 CS is a rare gem, one that will surely command a premium price 10 years down the road. If I were in this predicament, personally, I'd wait to see what the G80 M3 CS has to offer, then evaluate the market value of the F80 CS at that time and see what the delta is. It's clear that BMW M sees value in the CS line of cars, and they will continue to produce CS vehicles all throughout the product portfolio. Will we ever see a DCT, internal combustion engine only CS ever again? Time will tell. That's my 2 cents though, only you know the direction your petrol-pumping heart will pull you in my friend :)

Hi James! First of all, wanted to tell you that what a great job you did with this video! Really good stuff. I am an ultra big BMW M Aficionado since early childhood with cars such as BMW M3 CSL E46, BMW 1M and BMW M2 Competition. I just test drove an M3 CS - really amazing especially after having tested a G80 M3 Competition. However, I do have a question for you - I noticed once when exiting a roundabout at a low speed, the car started to sharply jerk for approximately 2 seconds when pushing back on the gas pedal. I heard in one of the reviews by Kies Motorsport of the M3 F80 DCT that its due to the low speed assistant of the DCT gearbox. Did you encounter anything similar at anytime? Many thanks in advance for your feedback and greetings from Switzerland!
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel Жыл бұрын
Hey Edouard! Thanks for the kind words, we always appreciate it when people engage and interact with the content that we publish! As for the DCT/jerky behavior at low speeds - that sounds like the clutch engaging to allow for some slip while you're in a higher gear (perhaps in 3rd but while turning your speed reduced more maybe for the exit, and when you re-applied gas the DTC hadn't downshifted to 2nd and so when the system wanted to downshift and disengage to help the car that's the exact moment you applied gas?) that's the only scenario I can think of where I've felt that in my F80 CS. It's very rare that the transmission is confused, but it does happen every now and then. 90% of the time I drive in manual mode so that may also be part of the reason I don't encounter these scenarios very often. I hope this helps :)

Great review man. I have been waiting for this to come out. I'm starting to look at used low mileage F80's and I keep coming back to the CS. Doubt I could justify the CCBs but the yellow looks great in my opinion. I plan to drive it and rarely track it. Several are up on autotrader at the moment (high $70's - mid $80's). I love the unique factor of the limited run models...I think if I get one I'll keep it for a very long time. Some of the other F80s (the 30 Jahre) also speak to me. Just as manuals are disappearing dual clutches are too and this would be a great one to hold on to. Just wondering how inflated you think those numbers are for a nearly 4 yr old special edition BMW. The used car market is crazy right now and all of these will be falling out of warranty soon.

Thanks for the kinds words - glad you enjoyed it! The satin gold definitely looks cool, and has that extra pop of color especially against the San Marino Blue backdrop. With that said, the brakes a very pricey, awesome, but pricey. If you don't plan on putting the CS (or any car for that matter) through some serious driving scenarios that push the brakes, then I think you already know the answer :) as for the limited run models, they totally have a special allure about them (the CS, the Jahre, etc.) and great point about the DCT, because it's true, we're not (thankfully) living in the era of manuals or automatics with a torque converter. As for the market, it's a sellers dream at the moment - the limited run cars will always retain a bit more value over the non-limited cars, even more so now with the limited chip shortages - the used car market is not a buyers market right now, so it's tough to say how much the total cost is due to limited run car VS. new car/chip shortage. In any case, thanks for the comment, and if you get a chance to test drive one come back and let us know what your thoughts are!

@@JamesBachiciChannel Thanks for the color James. Just a couple more questions, as the owner of both the standard car as well as the CS do you think the standard car is good enough for most? And does that CS front lip rub on a standard speed bump or mild incline driveway? It looks great but I guess I would remove it if it was too precarious. I've had a couple special edition bikes and cars over the years and I appreciate the rarity factor, but I'm just wondering if I should also entertain the idea of an individual build that someone is looking to unload. Basically if the base package is 90% of the way there then maybe I expand my search. My main concern is low mileage and obviously unabused...Cheers!
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@yesgaro1660 Definitely good enough for most - the Base F80 M3 is a proper gem in its own right. Make no mistake about it. But again, "most" is also a loaded term. People that are car shopping for M cars are either well-versed automotive enthusiasts that know exactly what they're looking for (in which case, they should shop around and test drive the Base, Comp, and CS if they can) and then you have the people that have always wanted an M and have no gauge/history/measure to compare it to anything else (in which case, if you don't know any better, the Base M3 is amazing) it's a bit like being asked "what spice level would you like, 1, 2, or 3?" Without having sampled what level 1 is, you can't really make an informed decision until you try it...unless of course you just want to impress people.That applies to both spice levels in your food order, and also the M3. Some people will know what they want and order exactly what suits them right. Others will have no clue but they'll go for the top because it sounds impressive/cool/etc. know what I mean? CS carbon fiber lip should not scrape on a standard U.S. speed bump IF the CS is factory height, and IF the speed bump isn't some weird one that's taller than it should be. I automatically take inclines at an angle though just to be safe, but low to medium ones SHOULD be doable. Totally agree - you fall in the first example I provided. You know what you want, and hey, if a Base build ticks most of your boxes, then that's that! That last bit is the key though - low mileage and not abused. It's also why it's difficult to find a reasonably priced E46 M3 that's factory. The ones you find are usually battered and abused and modded beyond recognition. You may have to pay a bit more to get a clean example, but the upside is that more custom/special Base builds (Individual paint, MPE, etc.) are usually built out by hardcore enthusiasts that don't mod the living daylights out of them, and usually are not super hard on their Bavarian pride and joy. I hope I've answered your questions, if not, feel free to let me know :)

Im curious about the venturi effect you mentioned regarding your exhaust tips. Could you explain in more detail, which construction part creates it and whats the benefit exactly?
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! But first, some clarification - the venturi effect is not tied to the exhaust tips, it's tied to the aero components on the CS. In the portion of the review where I mention the venturi effect I was specifically focusing on the rear diffuser, but for a better explanation we have to look at the whole aero setup and walk through each component because a good aerodynamic package is always comprised of multiple elements that work together to compliment each other. Let's begin, starting at the front! Front Splitter - outside of a very tall/aggressive rear wing, the front splitter is the hardest working aero component on the CS because of its location at the front of the car and because of all the various jobs it does. First, it redirects some of the air towards the front wheel wells via the side openings found on the splitter. This is to help cool down the brakes. Next, it acts as a downforce generator taking the front airstream and slowing it down (acting as an air dam of sorts causing an area of high pressure) which adds load onto the suspension and therefore onto the front wheels giving you more grip. Lastly, it also redirects some of the air underneath it causing it to accelerate and move faster since there's less bodywork in the way (as opposed to the air that hits the front and wants to go upwards above the nose and hood of the car) this generates low pressure and makes the air want to pull the underside of the car downwards towards the pavement thus helping you stick to the road more at high speeds. Now as the air travels from the front splitter above and below the vehicle, we make our way towards the rear of the car and to the...diffuser! The Diffuser - takes the air that the splitter redirected towards the underbody from the front of the car towards the rear and guides it towards the exit while controlling this transition between high velocity air that is now underneath the car and the slower ambient air around the car. It does this by giving all the air that's been channeled underneath the body a space to expand and in the process slow down. This reduces air flow separation and drag through this pressure recovery process (imagine a boat traveling in a body of water, it leaves a wake behind it and water moves inwards shortly thereafter to fill that space) by accelerating the velocity of the airflow underneath the car as it moves from the front to the rear this change in pressure increases downforce - this is the venturi effect - reduction of pressure when air is guided through a section that limits or constricts it. Lastly, we have to talk about the rear wing! The Wing - works as a sort of "catch all" because it uses the top air that's been redirected by the front splitter (and by the hood and windshield) and catches it to create downforce on the suspension and therefore rear tires. It also balances out the underbody air that the diffuser channeled outwards and blends it with the faster moving top air to help clean it up a bit and have it be less turbulent. The hope is that the air is as "clean" and smooth as possible as it leaves the car body (top, sides, and underbody) And that's basically it - front splitter, rear diffuser, rear wing, all working together to help guide the air and use it to our advantage in creating downforce making us stick to the ground more, and also having it leave the car body in as clean of a manner as possible so we can slip through the air smoothly. It's probably not the best explanation on the internet, and I likely skipped over a lot of stuff trying to describe the venturi effect (like Bernoulli's principles) but I hope you got some insight from all of this. Mind you, the measured positive impact or explicit numbers outlining the benefits of all the aero components on the M3 CS are not published anywhere, and of course there are proper cars that use these principles and aero components to much greater effect (think Le Mans Prototype racers) but I love all things cars and am especially fond of aerodynamics so I figured I'd try and dive a bit into your question - thanks for reading this far, I hope it helped!

@@JamesBachiciChannel thank you so much for an extensive answer! Im currently going through designing and 3d modeling some aero pieces for my f30 and this gave some useful insight. Now, what do you think of those rear bumper side splitters, that some use? Im designing some purely for style, but maybe theres some function to be gained as well?
@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@Reesakee No worries 👍 and impressive! Normally the rear bumper side aero combined with the side skirts help to channel the air laterally around the car and towards the rear. But the thing about aerodynamics is that in order to ensure all the components play nice and compliment each other you need wind tunnel testing and math 😄 either way, it’s definitely a cool endeavor!

I love the limited run aspect of the CS line, it makes me feel special (that's just my opinion) and the other items that are included (like the arm-rest, dual climate, keyless, etc.) in the Base/Comp are not important to me - so back to square 1, it really is personal preference and what matters to you most. The way I see it, the CS has everything I wanted, and if I would have gotten a Comp, I would have also wanted the 763M wheels which would have cost me at least $4K to upgrade to. Then there's the CFRP hood - that alone is at least $4K without paint. I'm already up $8000. You see my point? You need to just take a moment, jot down what's important to you, and then see which route makes the most sense - but also try to enjoy it! The journey is part of the experience! Thanks again for watching and for sharing your perspective with us :)

I think most m cars will be classics, especially the manuals. In 30 years there will be no manuals and no fully gas powered cars. The 0-60 time for all cars will be under 5 seconds, so I see the manual being the differentiating factor in a classic car in 2050. F80(f30) is underrated… I think it is top 3 best looking 3 series next to e30 and e46. BMW’s are fun to drive and handling is ridiculous. My f30 3 series is slow and most cars can’t keep up with me on back roads (miata factor).Hard to picture and f80, g80 classics now but in 30 years technology will be ancient and 90% of people will have never seen a 3rd pedal. Competitions, CS, and all wheel drive is cool…. But nothing is cooler than shifting through gears. Remember people want what they cannot have.

Interesting perspective, and valid points! Same could be said about internal combustion engines all up really. But yes, I agree, I felt slighted when I found out the M3 CS and M4 CS only came in DCT, and THEN I find out that the M2 CS would be offered with both manual and DCT options :)

The negative of buying a BMW new is the 117k is going to sell for 50k used after 3-4 years.. maybe 60 with real low miles like that.
@JamesBachiciChannel

On standard models, sure. But limited production numbers means they’ll always fetch a premium over the Base and Comp. I’m fact most used CS models I’ve seen are over $70K unless they’re super high mileage and trashed.

Hey Chris - the used car market is in a bit of a frenzy with the microchip shortage slowing down new car production, which in turn means used cars are retaining their value more. It also depends on the mileage and options of course, but they vary between $80-$90K or so.

The *only* issue I may have with the M3 F80 *CS* is that "CS" is a fifty thousand dollar option. I get that it's a very limited run - but you could buy an M3 and tune it with ridiculous specs and still come in way under than fifty thousand. That being said - if it was something in my range.... yeah, I'd probably get it. 😆
@JamesBachiciChannel

More like a $35K option (when comparing a new 2018 Base M3 to a new 2018 M3 CS when they first came out) if you don't add the carbon ceramic brakes and skip the M Performance titanium exhaust - but yes, as I mentioned in the review, this was the big contention point back in 2018 "is it worth the price difference?" And the answer to that question differs depending on who you ask haha :)

@JamesBachiciChannel
@JamesBachiciChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't put them in a head to head comparison video if you ask me - mostly because of the overall larger size of the M3 CS compared to the GT4, the extra doors, and higher center of gravity. Both phenomenal vehicles without a doubt. To keep it short, and if it's possible, it's best if you test drove them both to see which one would suit your needs best.
