THANK YOU SO MUCH for expert training knowledge ! Can you please show how to STRIKE, without loosing the cane. I can't figure it. It looks like you would drop the staff, if you bumped into something with it. I know it's designed to form a space around you, that an attacker won't want to advance thru, but I cant figure the science of it.

Regardless of tool be it staff sword etc when starting realize you will bean yourself a lot. But with practice you improve so as said start slow for it hurts less than thinking you’re jet li chan lee etc and you do it at full speed and cause major pain. Same with if you were locked on before but stopped for awhile. Practice practice practice.

@pasquinilli3 жыл бұрын
Haha. Thanks! The comments from you and others are why I keep doing these videos. I got really burned out teaching younger and younger students who have every opportunity to do anything they want (or their parents want them to do.) I had a lot of great students for sure, but so many who were just casual and going through the motions. Martial arts was never made for kids but it has become a “kid thing.” While it’s good for everyone, martial arts is not for everyone. When I started to post these videos on KZbin, I found students who were in love with martial arts, or really excited about it, like I was and still am! This global, virtual dojo recharges and reinvigorates me with every single comment. Well mostly, anyway. So I am very grateful for your kind words. Keep training!

You are a very good instructor. I have made and used staffs for many, many years but, not for self defense. I'm 65 years old but, dang it I'm going to learn and become somewhat proficient with using a staff if it kills me! I have just retired, now I have a lot of free time I can put to good use. Your instruction has made it very understandable how to do this, I never could figure it out by watching someone else do it, just too fast for my old eyes. I wish I would have started training and learning some of the martial arts 50 years ago. Growing up in Bumchuck, Wyoming in the 1960's and early 70's, I never really met anyone that had any training in any of the martial arts other than Caine in the TV show "Kung Fu." That really didn't work out all that well for me. Anyway I want to learn this to discipline myself along with gaining more dexterity from the physical exercise it demands plus, it just looks cooler than heck!You have a new subscriber here and, you have already earned my respect! At my age I'm not really interested in the fighting aspect of the martial arts anymore but, more for the mental and physical conditioning. Thank you for taking your valuable time to show a complete beginner where to begin and also fueling my interest in learning how to handle a staff. Who knows what path or how far this may lead me. I do know I would rather be called a grasshopper than a dung beetle, lol.

I got mine from playing other sports, as well as simply constantly practicing with the bo staff.

This is awesome! I have trained in BoJutsu for a few years and you have solid advice. The BO is my weapon of choice and even though there are different styles, it all comes down to proper movements, grip, coordination and fun.

Hello Sir! I'm truly fascinated with Bo Staff Spinning, I even run a group of younglings who share this passion with me and I'm really glad I found this video. You Sir seem like a reliable Master. I'd like to become your student nad train under your eye but it's kinda impossible. Either way, just wanted to say thank you for the way you spread the knowledge of this art and please upload more! I'm so thirsty to learn as much as I can take!

Thank you so much for these detailed explanations. Our class time is limited and sometimes a single explanation is lost. I often repeat to the younger students, “ Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, fast is power. “ However, a fast mistake will not serve you. Be Well and Good Journey
