Awesome! You just have to show up. Camp from 9 to 3. If you can get everything sharpened up you can test that Friday night. Then you have finished to the level of black belt.

Thank you- this must be one of the most effective self-defence methods available but it also seems to be an equally effective mental discipline for focusing and confidence- and an added bonus is that it looks super cool with a fire twirling stick!

Another powerful video on the bo staff. My outer biceps are sore from being hit by the bo staff as i strike. I especially like how you tie in the finger role and wrist roll with the figure eight. I also like the simple exercise which ties the BO staff in front with a spear thrust and the two Bo strikes. Fantastic, short term, measurable goals. My big stick ricocheted off of one of the ceiling fan blades, bounced back at me, and but a knot on my forehead. I say this softly but with confidence that it did hurt. LOL.

Anthony Nastasi thanks Anthony! I was trying to strike really hard to look good in the video and I am a bit sore too! Haha feels really good! Thanks for watching!

I've missed you so much. I took a break from my practice since I got all types of degrees of burns on my right arm, knees, and face. Released my stress in other ways but now I'm confident enough again to continue this practice , specially with your guidance. Matt, I appreciate your execution and the way u articulate. Thank you! You are my favorite.

GabyNobody that’s very kind of you to say. I’ve been teaching this way for over twenty years now. I always remind the students that I’m talking to myself as much as to them. Sometimes I need to hear it more than they do. Words are extremely powerful. The things you say to yourself become true. You get to write your own story, you better write yourself as a hero. That’s the power of martial arts. It’s the way to discipline thinking, speaking, and doing. You will never be able to change what happens to you in the span of your life. Who you are, where you come from, what you are. You only get to control your how. How do you think, speak, and act when things happen to you and around you. Want to be kinder, happier, more compassionate, more tolerant, more honest, hard working, disciplined, etc... that’s all you get to control, but that’s a lot!!! Thanks again and keep training!

its a cool black staff...i wish i could have the staff like you..
@pasquinilli5 жыл бұрын
I hope you can too! Most of the martial arts staffs I see these days are being made in Pakistan. I wish they sold them easier in the East. I keep looking for ways to ship martial arts gear around the world, but some countries have restrictions. I will keep looking. It will change eventually. Until then, can you make a staff? Mine is just a red oak staff painted black.

What workouts should I be doing as far as building the right muscles for bo staff work. That is to say, what muscles are being used primarily, and what workouts, (Push ups, sit ups, pull ups,) should I be doing?
@pasquinilli3 жыл бұрын
Pushups, planks, and pull-ups. Do high quality over quantity. So start with sets of five pushups and one to three pull-ups abs do multiple sets. Start with a 30 second plank and do multiple sets. The staff will build your shoulders and forearms if you stabilize and strengthen everything else with the three exercises above! Let me know how it goes!

This black staff is old and it came from a company in the US called Asian World of Martial Arts. AWMA.com I think. It is really just a red oak staff painted black. You can make one yourself with some black paint!

What is on the wall behind the heavy bags...good video by the way but my curiosity has me distracted.

Reid Forth soon I will be able to tape more of these outside! It’s a climbing wall for the younger students. A traversing wall, so they have to move sideways. Also a bunch of tumbling blocks we use in our parkour and ninja warrior training classes. Kids need lots of exercise. Adults too! Thanks for watching!
