Not sure about the other viewers but I don't need you to speed through any game turns just to make the video shorter. I don't mind a longer video as long as you keep the overall quality at this level. Really enjoyed this one!
@BoardGameNationКүн бұрын
We aren't particularly bothered by a longer video either, but in turns we fast forwarded, nothing of consequence really happened. Most of the moves were either repeats of the previous turn or natural progressions of the positions. We try to keep the story moving along to maintain the attention of as many viewers as possible. If you would like to see the deleted scenes from the video, we will be publishing them in February to our members. Along with the raw gameplay footage from Gen Con. If you would like to see that, click the Join button and select the membership level that is right for you. We appreciate the feedback! Thanks for watching!

I think this game does illustrate why some people are asking for chess clocks. Because the axis has taken twice the time that the allies have. If a chess clock was used the axis would risk running out of time.
@BoardGameNation2 күн бұрын
We are talking to Greg about it. We offered to sponsor the clocks themselves. We will see how it goes.
@nedfonseca792 күн бұрын
We use chess clock and it works. We give 3h for each team and set an alarm clock (on a cell phone) to go off after 5h15 minute and after 6 hours. When the alarm goes off at 5h15 (we named it as a 30-minute Warning) we check whose turn it is, if it is Germany or someone before it that round we are playing is the last one. If the turn is the British or someone after it then the next round will be the last. For example, if we are in round 5, round 6 will be the last one. And when the alarm goes off at 6 hours the game ends no matter what. Normally we play for 6 rounds this way, but for those guys we saw in this match they could reach 8 rounds for sure. They are awesome! As it is this Channel. Thanks a bunch for sharing!

Agreed, it's such a basic and simple thing, chess clock sitting at the table, 3 hours each, players make sure their opponents tap the chess clock the end of their turn. Simple, no one is not knowing how much time is left. If anything out of the ordinary comes up they can pause the clock. I don't understand why these details aren't organised, or am i missing something obvious here?

Im not so sure, often the Allies don't have as much to do in my opinion. It would be interesting to see what the averages/relative times are between Allies and Axis in say 100 games taking a bigger sample.

Thanks for sharing yet another awesome game! I’ve been hopefully waiting for an Anniversary game for a long time; it is the version I play the most. I will say that I am very impressed by the German player’s ability to suppress the British navy-Britain was unable to exert ANY pressure on Germany and Italy until it was far too late. It would have been cool if the game would have started with the regular 1941 setup though…that’s what I’m used to.

If your IPC count was correct, then it was 102 axis and 85 allies. The allies could have taken 7 ipc in europe and then 2 more with the us in the pacific. That would be 94 allies 93 axis. (Some combo of norway finland, DEI, northern europe, etc)

Great video! That last battle was one for the ages...and I have been on the 'receiving' side of those far more frequently than on the 'giving' side. It's easy for us viewers to play Monday Morning Quarterback, but I think the final analysis is spot-on. And, it is so easy to get caught up in the action and fall into situations that don't seem apparent in the moment. It is unfortunate that the whole concept of 'time' became a character in this tale.

Instead of trying to take 2 victory cities on turn 5 I wonder if Doug could have taken Manila and instead focused on claiming as much IPC as possible. He needs a 16 point swing Germany left Norway and the lowlands completely undefended so that’s a 10 point swing. And then with the Americans he needs to retake Manila as he did, but if he then goes for Borneo (worth 4) that would be an 8 point swing to win the allies the game. There are also some possible attacks the uk could have done from India? I doubt anyone is doing the IPC math mid game though. If this doesn’t work let me know why!

A wild idea: What if a tournament wasn't determined by victory cities at the end but by judges, at the moment time runs out? An odd number of judges with lots of experience in the game just predict a winner. So 2-1 or 3-2 wins the game, but I suspect most games all will agree on. This will prevent gamey situations where you suicide your entire fleet just to technically hold a capital at the end.

TY very much for this video. 3 questions about the use of the Anniversary edition in those tourneys: 1) What about the cheap tanks (5 ipc only): Is there now much more tanks than infantry? 2) What about the (little) bidding for Axis > I suppose the 4 ipcs were not the reason of their victory? So the 1942 scenario seems balanced? 3) Don't you think the 6 hours limit is a little short for the allies in this version of the game? TY in advance!
@BoardGameNation2 күн бұрын
We do see more Tanks in this version, but Infantry is still very important. The 1942 scenario is very balanced. Some games are played with no bid. With the right ruleset, 6 hours can be enough time to get to a reasonable conclusion for this game. Hope that helps! Enjoy the video!

Probably agree with the sentiment around the UK, the pacific when it was threatened the UK showed up and by the numbers they seemed in trouble in calcutta still not sure why the japanese pivoted. @davidHellbound2 күн бұрын
Depending on how strong you want to hit India on J1 (2 or 3 fighters), placing the artillery bid in Burma would give you a 79%-92% success rate. Even if Japan only had a $3 bid and placed 1 infantry in Burma, success would be 71%-89%. That’s crazy, and makes me wonder if no one should ever give the Axis a bid, lol! The big question is if Japan can hold it long term and survive an aggressive KJF strategy after ignoring much of China in order to take India. Does Japan win the India battle, but lose the war?
@BoardGameNationКүн бұрын
All good thoughts. We might see that idea put to the test in this tournament. ;) Stay tuned! :)
@charlesmichalek3763Күн бұрын
@@davidHellbound so if you are going kjf you could have placed russian tanks poised to liberate india. So yes you can take it but you won't hold it long term with a full kjf.
@davidHellboundКүн бұрын
@@charlesmichalek3763 Right, I think that’s part of the larger question I am posing because I haven’t played it out before. If a bid is used to take India on J1 (call it a blitz?), there are 1-2 standard things that Japan won’t be able to do elsewhere on the board that might bite them later. And to your point, I’m sure Russian units can make it to India on R2-R3. However, would that give Germany the edge they need to take Moscow?, or might Germany have their own problems with the UK spending money in the Atlantic that would have originally been put into India? Whatever decisions are made, it is clear that the J1 Blitz creates multiple direct and indirect domino effects. The fun, and the larger question I am posing, is, do the majority of those scenarios favor the Axis or the Allies? I guess we will have to watch & play to find out :-)
@charlesmichalek3763Күн бұрын
@davidHellbound so for tournament play you are starting as the allies with 10 vc. If you lose 2 (lenningrad and moscow) but gain 2 (both in china) the allies win. If you lose the 3 in europe then you need to add the phillipines or tokyo. So in a full kjf you are essentially trading the vc and planning on losing 2 vc in europe.

One of the things that I don't know if it was just my tv. But I found the lines around Moscow hard to tell where the borders of the capital of Russia was compared to the rest of the territories. Also, I wonder if with India starting with no IC in India. Means that America/UK should focus heavier on Germany or Italy? I find that Italy is kinda the weak underbelly of the game. Though that does leave Japan do just go crazy in Asia though. Italy having so much control of the Mediterranean was a big problem. I haven't played this version. Is it balanced? It looks like the Axis has a significant advantage without any bid. Early on the Axis had bad rolls (I think, notably J1 - loss of 3 fighters) - and they still rolled over the Allies and were racking up a huge economic lead early on.

In round 2 you could have moved the UK destroyer to sz 37 and blocked a landing in Calcutta round 3 from Japan right?

@@BoardGameNationHe took transjordan as well that turn so the suez was closed.
@Emeralds606012 күн бұрын
@nathanroush8918 I've spent some time looking at and thinking about this and I think the idea is that not blocking with the destroyer sets up a trap because if Japan does attack India then they don't have the bombard (the destroyer moved off the Indian coast instead of blocking) and will probably take the territory with few guys left and with some potential to lose some aircraft. Then Russia in theory comes swinging back down on their turn and liberate India for the UK, which if I remember the rules correctly would then allow the UK to keep building there on their next turn. Thus the India attack would actually be a negative for Japan because it would A. Lure half their navy and 2/3 of their transports away from the defense against the Americans, along with destroying some aircraft that could also be used for such a role. B. Destroy the vast majority of their land units in Asia which would otherwise be used against China which in turn leads to C. The exposure of Shanghai to a possible chinese/russian land counterattack. Of course I say this knowing that the Chinese ultimately chose to leave Asia entirely on their turn, so perhaps I'm looking too far into it, but that's the sort of feeling I get with the idea of moving the destroyer to 35 instead of 37. It also makes sense then why the Japanese ultimately chose not to attack India: it is a poisoned pill and if they do they will be left exposed whereas by doing what they did (refocus on Russia and the US, as well as bring the transports back next to Tokyo) they can keep themselves protected while putting pressure on the enemy's weakpoints and waste british resources in India. That's my take on it at the very least.

Maybe no spoilers in the future when it comes to the other versions and who won 😢. We don’t alway get to watch in order.

Are you referring to the 2023 event?

@ no you mentioned the 2024 1942 winners at the start of this video.
Many will call me petty, but dang its hard to watch videos hosted by a guy wearing a t-shirt under a polo shirt. Seriously Gary! Now that I have that off my chest, (and hopefully off your chest!), i gotta also say that the way you present these tournament matches is the best style/production on YT-well done.
