I'm 53 years old and I started skating in the 70s. Peggy Oki was my hero as a kid. Everything I've learned about coping with life...I learned from skateboarding. Keep shredding and ripping sh*t up, girls❤

I’m from Jamaica and there’s a (very) small skate scene here. We do have female skaters but they’re small in numbers. It’s inspiring to see a black, female skater being featured though. It makes me feel like I can actually do this too.

Ashley Dalley I’ve wanted to skateboard for a long time but it’s hard to get into that shit especially when ur family is sexist but my dad is finally allowing me to be me

Rosa Parks was also a skater. Little known, but in fact the real reason she was not allowed on the that bus is because she was carrying her board at the time the bus driver was like, "no way, dude, you can't have that board in here." She dissented and became famous from that day on. I believe she continued to board until the day she died.

My mom also kept me in a bubble and I didn't have friends growing up either! It feels good to know I'm not the only one. She's a badass!

Same here guys. I come from a south Asian background and compared to my dad, my mom had thought sheltering me growing up was good parenting on her part as well. What it really did to me was be more remorseful toward her as well as having more anxiety issues socially than most girls. It does not matter how much your brain and mind wants to really connect with people, as a kid, if your parents don't allow that space before your brain fully develops, it becomes even more harder to come out of your shell. Adults are also more judgemental and socially inclined than kids are so there's that added pressure and expectation to not mess things up and leave a good impression.

She's one of the female skaters that actually skate, do tricks, etc. I came from TikTok and that other blonde girl who apparently is "the coolest skater girl in LA" when all she does is squat on the board lmfao.

I had to look at 7 different videos to find one where this Brianna King actually landed trick never skated with her personally so I couldn't tell you what that's like I don't think she wants the attention from Vans maybe you should have given your attention to her friend that's been skating for longer. that got her into skateboarding literally an ambassador. this Brianna king girl is just all about herself. imma skaterrgirl Yassss! Slayyy

Interesting to see these black female skaters. I don't know of any professional black female skaters. None have appeared on the cover of Thrasher Magazine or Transworld Skateboarding magazine.

She deserves to go pro. As a woman that skateboards, she has this unique style that's unforgettable once you watch her skate. I'm a white woman and I love seeing African-American women go up to the top!
