Yeah same, odd choice to kill him off when in actual fact he lived and went to prison. Also, doing a 7 year time leap was a horrendous idea! The eventual downfall and death of Rothstein (how great would that of been). Charlie Luciano making his way up to be one of the biggest gangsters of all time (again, the rise of his power would have been great). The five families sit down meeting (would have been awesome) Obviously it’s Nuckys story n all but the writers missed out there

Even as nucky is the main protagonist, he could still been written into most of these events in some ways. The writers did that enough times on the show..

That's why they wrote him out of the show, the fans were starting to like him over the main character, the shows about Enoch " Nucky" Thompson so they got rid of him to get the show back on its intended track. The show go weaker after he left, showing in later seasons.

Even though he added some good drama, the show did not depend at all on his obnoxious angst and had used him up for whatever worth he had by the time he became annoying. Killing him off was a good decision thematically, and the show went along perfectly without him.
