I hope you don't mind a little constructive advice. When you leave your boat for an extended period of time, fill your fuel tank and leave it full. Every time that the day cycles between night time and day, it gets hot and cool. An empty fuel tank sucks air in and out through the overflow tube. This air is moist and the moisture condenses on the inside of your fuel tank. This is very bad for your fuel tank, even if it's stainless or plastic. This is also very bad for your fuel filter. I saw that you changed your fuel filter which is the most important thing you can do for a diesel engine. Even a few drops of water can make a paper fuel filter fall apart. The holes in the tip of an injector are microscopic. Any bit of dirt will clog a fuel injector which will rob your engine of power and efficiency and eventually, your engine will die completely. A diesel engine should be left completely full of fuel.

Love the new bike. My wife and I have been preparing to liveaboard and sail, so we bought two Emotion Electric bikes. We are used to cycling around, instead of driving. We also bought a little kid carrier for towing heavier objects (e.g.: starter battery), it is compact. We love your show. I am soooo happy about you only having a little bit of fungus/mold. I still have nightmares about the mold when you first arrived last year. I have had my own battle with fungus/mold, not fun. Great job as usual White Spots! God bless!

doctorparadigmshift two words.......Desiccant Packs to absorb the moisture, and Ventilation when able and aboard.
@doctorparadigmshift9 жыл бұрын
@daverjax thanks, I'll try and keep that in mind. Have you had bikes on your boat?
@daverjax9 жыл бұрын
doctorparadigmshift no I never have as 1) back then they didn't have the folding bike variety as they have since DaHon brought out it's first folding bike. 2) The 40' Morgan Cat was a multiple ownership situation. as for my advise about the Desiccants; that comes from my service in the U.S. Navy as part of they're long term preservative storage procedures. but it also comes from what mold and mildew needs to thrive, warmth, moisture and stagnant air. if you by various methods try to eliminate these, mold and mildew are less likely to form. the actions you take are also in some extant decided by what environment you are storing the vessel in; Tropics mean it's going to be warm and moist, not so much in the northern Temperate or semi Arctic climates. you can make you're own desiccant chests by buying bulk silica dioxide and using anything from a shoebox to an ice chest, just make sure the container has air flow. when actually onboard, with daily sweepers being held, mold and mildew are less of a problem as the spores don't have the time to grow before being cleaned, and usually the hatches are open providing air circulation.
@doctorparadigmshift9 жыл бұрын
OK, I have never heard of any bike owners having problems on their boats but that's not to say it doesn't happen. I will try and keep that in mind for the future. Thanks for offering the advice. Cheers mate.

doctorparadigmshift no problem, remember, when it comes to mold and mildew, moisture IS you're enemy. that goes for anywhere, not just the ship.

great to see you back and making more improvements. someone already said this, but do make sure you check all gas fittings for leaks with soapy water if you haven't already. fire bad... :) EDIT: normally i think you're suppose to pressurize the line with air and wait 24 hours to see if the system has lost any pressure. soapy water does a pretty good job of finding leaks though.

Funny thing about batteries, having worked on them and replaced them for years, the BIG thing with them is they will drain energy just sitting still, and below about 10 volts, they will die fairly quickly. If left below that 10 volt unhealthly limit for very long they will not take a charge again. Even a a very old battery can last a good long while if kept charged but a brand new battery can be so much scrap lead if drained dead for more than a few days. It's always best to have solar battery chargers/wind generators, with charge controllers to keep your batteries topped up charge-wise.

if your ever around a store that sales pool supplies buy some chlorine pucks there about the size of a hockey puck place some of them in your boat during storage will help with the mold , works great in colder climates , also seem to help keep little animals and most bugs away also .

I needed a new starting battery for my 18 hp diesel engine this Spring and I found a deep cycle marine battery has more than enough kick to start it. The new deep cycle battery puts out 560 amps and the starter only needs a 120 amps. Deep cycle batteries will last a lot longer than starter batteries. But since this was filmed several months ago it's a moot point now. Enjoy your trip to San Andres!

I was reading the marina website and I dont quiet understand how the fees are based. Is it very expensive to moore there? At the dock like you were before or on a buoy? Thx James
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hi James Carter, I payed around 300$ a month for the mooring. There are no docks...but there is a new marina just next door in Puerto Lindo with docks. They don't have electricity yet...but all coming soon I assume. And prices seem to be not too bad. For that area, Panamarina is a good deal. They charge per foot. Karl is 37...just for referece. And the longer you stay, the cheaper it gets. I had the cheapest rate, which applies if you stay more than half a year (I was just two three days above that). Hope that helps :) Ahoy, Nike & Karl
