Hi Phil, One for owners to check is when you trailer a boat launch it and take off for a day out at sea. You also let thieves know they have a good few hours to steel from you. Then you need to get insurance to cover you while you leave your car, trailer un attended away from where you stated you stored it.

Hi Robert, that's a good point. I'm mindful where I leave the car and trailer whilst I'm out on the boat. The trailer has a wheel clamp and is locked to the hitch on the car. There's a limit to what you can do though. If a thief is determined to take it you just have to make a claim on insurance (and your premiums are increased in the future).

Hi Phil. I'm playing catch up with some of your videos. Very useful this one. The costs of Marinas are astronomical. Up here < 23 feet in Deganwy it seems that its the best part of £3500 per year now. I was quoted £1500 only a few years ago. These places are filling up with £1M motor boats and seem to be slowly but surely kicking the real sailors out. A bit better on the moorings but they have all sorts of compromises. So trailering is much cheaper, even taking into account all the costs. However, I am finding more and more slipways being closed, more and more carparks have height restrictions (No good for my VW camper!!) and also have tighter restrictions, so if you want to go round Anglesey over 4 days you can't leave your car anywhere without getting a ticket or clamp! The comment about security needs to also be taken seriously. Now I know I live Liverpool way but I hardly know anyone up here who hasn't had a trailer tampered with or pinched these days and despite most slipways being far from the thieves, the security of the car/van and trailer being left for days on end in a quiet secluded slipway carpark is a risk. It's a shame really, access to the sea is getting more difficult not easier!

Thanks for watching, commenting and adding your thoughts. Trailering will not only get you to far more cruising grounds but also adds an element of budgeting into ownership. It only really costs you whilst you're using the boat not when it's alongside a pontoon unused.

Great videos Phil. I’m an Orkney Coastliner owner and the boat needs quite a bit of work. I’d be really interested if you had any videos around the fitting and positioning of your transoms (I see you have a main and a back-up) also the fitting of a steering and seating system.

Hi Bjorn, good choice of boat 😎, I'll see what I can do regarding a short video of the transom with outboards and controls. Keep an eye on the channel. I have a Tohatsu 20 hp four stroke main and a Suzuki 2.5 hp four stroke as the back up. Hope you get your Coastliner out on the water soon. Phil.

Great question, I have just got a lovely little Yorkshire Pebble and I can’t see how I can mount an auxiliary at the moment due to the shap of the stern 👍🤝

You may have done this already, but google Yorkshire Cobble for sale and see what images you can find. They may give you some ideas. Some boats like Drascombe Dabbers have a 'well' into which the outboard is mounted. I'm sure you'll come up with a plan.

Great information,I had to learn the hard way when I bought a boat.Haha.I changed my trailer wheels from conventional sized wheel to 13" wheels,(used wheel spacers)on a trip,the wear on the bearings is much less,and the cushioning of the bigger tyres vastly improves the ride. (Broom Gemini speedboat converted for sea fishing with 25hp Johnson 2 stroke outboard) You're easy to listen to Phil,great vids.

Interesting stuff old chap, the marina costs are a bit expensive, it's a lot cheaper joining a boat club if you can, but you're in one place all the time so there's no way round it. 👍👍👍

Thanks. I couldn’t agree more with regards a boat club. I watched a video about Newhaven Sea Anglers and can only dream of something like that local to me. Hopefully my video gives potential small boaters a few things to consider what works for them. Thanks Phil
