BOATING in the wrong clothes! | An uncomfortable CANAL cruise [Ep 111]

I cruise down canal locks so I can moor my Narrowboat next to my camper van as my little rescue dog is going to the vets to be fixed / spay. My starter motor on my old Lister engine gets a good seeing to by a boat engineer and we now have to stay moored on the canal until Bonny is recovered and my boat is back up and running.

Aww really ?! would love to know more about her - the vet knew she had had puppies and a few dogs were rescued at the same time … how was she when you had her as she is very overwhelmed outside and has no recall at all … we working hard on that at the moment

​​@@TheNarrowboatPirateer name was Stella before which is why when you renamed her she had lost her recall and the tricks she was taught, she's never been on a boat before which is why she might be overwhelmed and probably still getting used to it and you, she was only crated when she was either naughty or sleeping, she was a very loving dog and quite hyper active and so used to being outside and used to other dogs as we had kept her son for her to play with when she was with us, I think you've been misinformed about her.

Having my van now around London is a right pain Mrs. I'm cruising with another couple he's 84 and she's 77 still doing all the locks with ease. Bloody amazing. Why don’t you put a big floaty ball on the handle of your windless. If you did drop it in the water you can fish it out.

Because any cord etc around the windlass can get caught on the ladders and in the lock paddle gear … I’ve seen a couple of serious accidents because of this and as a solo boater I wouldn’t risk it … I’ve plans for it however 😃

Wow that's a deep lock at 7:00! No wonder people help you, you're a sweetheart. Do you use a short or long handle windlass for the locks? My brain gets crazy with you driving on the other side of the road luckily for me, boats are the opposite. Cheers for Bonny!

Its a foregone conclusion that, if you are on a boat, you will get grease on whatever you are locking in. I'll be careful, you tell yourself, but to no avail. Dogs generally get over an operation like that fairly quickly and it prevents a lot of problems later on in life.

Im like you I like certain clothes for certain jobs , I have plenty to choose from but I always end up wearing the same stuff ( its what you feel comfortable in ) you could get a pair of water proofs to slip over your jeans when needed to keep them dry and clean ( just a suggestion ) . Safe cruising.

I have waterproofs too but jeans are awful climbing up and down lock ladders, leaping to the towpath and onto the boat roof etc much prefer my stretchy walking pants 😂😂

You might want to look into a cross body "pet sling" . This way when you want to trek and you know it will be too far for Bonny and her tiny legs you can carry her and she can enjoy the view and the ride

Or, if your boating pants have belt loops, then put a clip on the loop, and hook the crank handle on it when not using it, but off the boat.

That’s how I lost 2 of my windlasses unfortunately …. We all lose them, especially as a single handed boater … I’ll never use a strap as seen them get caught on ladders and the paddle gear … there is something which I’ll show in a future vlog that may work though 😉🏴‍☠️

Little Bonny is an adorable dog and I hope she is much better soon. I had a big standard poodle (who was castrated at 9 months old) who thought my son's used socks were the tastiest things going - he had to have surgery to remove said socks from his digestive system. Huge operation which came with huge bills (thank god for insurance!). Lovely video as ever and it's one of the highlights of my week.

Just stumbled across this. I didnt realise at the time, but you opened that lock for me to speed me on my way. As I was leaving the lock landing, a guy in a canoe had some sort of accident. I looked back after the lock filled, but it looked like you and others were already trying to sort stuff out.
