The Whaler shows the difference between a captain who knows how to pilot a small boat and one that doesn’t. So many of these guys are scared to get on the power, especially the lake boat captains who continually let the bow go under a wave and flood the forward compartment.
@G5Hohn Жыл бұрын
Indeed, you can hear the captain throttling up and down quite regularly, indicating effective use of throttle to manage the bow.
@christopherweise438 Жыл бұрын
That's why the BTL girls do so well. Not afraid to get on the power and keep the bow high.

From Manchester in the UK... the drone shots make all the difference. Your vids are constantly fascinating but I can't believe so many boat owners don't wear life-jackets! It's almost as if they don't expect the inlet to be so confused and violent at times! Fascinating though it is, I think I'll stick to the British canal system where a wake of 4 inches is quite a lot! Ha-Ha! Keep up the good work!

That Reef Runner looks like the old top-heavy Pen Yan tunnel drive inboards. They always sway like hell because with a person on the bridge the boat is way too heavy over its axis. They are essentially tubs but the tunnel drive is great for diving because it cuts down on the risk of shredding your diver. There are tanks, so this looks like a charter diving expedition. Captain did about as could be done with this blob of a vessel... :)

Mystery Boat #1 probably a 'Check Mate'. Mystery boat #2 is a 'Mako'. The 'Boston Whaler' (Montawk 17 CC) probably did it best, but that cathedral hull is a slamming ride. I think the Reef Runner did fine but it looked awkward, probaby a Stamas (sp?) They just don't have a lot of freeboard, especially at the bow - it's architecturally drawn to be the same as the stern. Yeah, I like the drone shots. Cool to see the same run from multiple angles.

Love drone footage. My dad always had a boat and I always enjoyed going out on it but I never did anything right on it docking or launching. I was always the dummy to him so I never wanted to own one thank goodness. But at least I’m smart enough to know better than to try to go out in rough conditions like that . What’s the fun in getting beat to death and your boat is getting pounded. I always said boat people have more money than sense !

Every naval architect should be studying these videos based on what they want their boat/hull to do. So much information in watching these. Every boat buyer should watch to understand how either the boat they bought or the one they want will act in these conditions. I live on the Merrimack River which can be really harsh, but man almost nothing like this.
@TheOverproof151 Жыл бұрын
When you see that smaller Boston Whaler navigate that with no issues.... a lot rides on the design.... but also on the competency of the helmsman. ( I wouldn't refer to many of those as 'Captains")

Stupidity cones in many forms, those who see that churning sea and keep heading out& those like that viking who does not realize you are responsible for that wake.Its amazing to me the lack of common sense , and lack of courtesy people exhibit boating.I’ve even witnessed coast guard vessels tipping past boats never slowing, no whistles for passing ever blown.Nuts!
@DayBeforeTomorrow10 ай бұрын
There's absolutely no reason for most of these boats to be slamming their hulls! The operators are mostly clueless. There is a rhythm you must get into while traversing waves. It requires deft work using both the throttle and steering wheel. Going full-speed ahead is not the answer and risks damaging the boat or worse... dumping passengers. You should always practice your technique while alone or with a mentor. And if you do go wave-hopping... make sure kids and seniors have floatation devices on and are seated in the rear!

I'm not a boat guy so my question is...what is the correct way to get through this and out to sea?
