I love this song my dad played it and said it was our song. On his death bed I played it for him while he was in an induced coma and I know he knew I was there at that time. he heard the song and tried to talk but he squeezed my hand and then gone to be with the Lord. my mom and I get butterflies at our front door almost everyday. I miss the physical part of not having him around. But he's not in anymore pain, and daddy keep the butterflies coming. I LOVE YOU.

He was in the room with me as my dad was passing and my father was asking him to take care of me for him. Until the end he was thinking of his only girl. That was 2003, I married the boyfriend and he has taken care of me but I miss my daddy!

I've always cried at the "feel like I'm losing my baby girl" line. I had my dad for 29 wonderful years and just lost him a few days ago. He was able to give me away at my wedding almost 4 years ago and see his first grandchild (a boy) born 2 1/2 years ago, but that doesn't make the pain any less hurtful. My mother passed September 2022 she was saved at 11-14 so, she's in heaven for sure pray your dad and my mommy are friends now. Honestly, I think this may be the greatest song ever written. Especially for fathers. I can't speak for the daughters out there, but I've cried 3 times in the past 20 years, and two of them were because of this song. It makes me sad, though. I'll never see my daughter turn 16, and I'll never see her marry. But I remember butterfly kisses. It's always a struggle to convince myself that having that experience was worth the decades of pain; but in the end, I couldn't imagine life without. How shallow and void of meaning would life be without the memory of butterfly kisses?

I envy all those girls who had fathers that care and love them very much. My own father was extremely physically and verbally abusive all throughout my youth so I never knew a father's love that I needed so bad...what a difference it would have made in my life. Lifelong depression and sadness instead. That dance was the last time he ever stood up...he fought so hard bc he "had to walk his baby girl down the aisle and dance with her one last time," despite all his doctors telling me it'd be impossible for him to stand let alone walk & dance bc the tumor was the size of a melon. I wish I could tell this amazing story about my dad but I can't. My dad was never really present in my life and he still isn't. I'm 16 and I heard my dad at a young age accuse my mother cheating because I wasn't his daughter. But I do remember a time when I was really young. Before my parents divorce. My older sister and I were about to go to bed and my dad came in our room, and he was crying. We asked him what was wrong and he told us that he was thinking about us growing up and getting married. We both crawled out of bed and sat on the floor next to him and he put his arms around us both and sang this song to us. +McKenna Line ~ He obviously shows some loving emotions towards you and your sister. Who knows what happened with your mom and him and tell him the past is the past and that it doesn't matter and tell him that because you care for him that for the time being he was your only father figure you had until he left. Ask him how he would feel about finding out later on by missing out doing the stuff he discussed with you two ladies that night about growing up and getting married and had kids of your own and ask him wouldn't he like to be apart of their lives knowing he was their true grandfather to some wonderful grand kids and ask him wouldn't he like to be a part of their lives or would he want to live life to regret it all over again? Tell him it's just a simple DNA cheek swab test to settle any doubt between you and your sister and not for your mom. Maybe reminding him of what he said about the future it will change his mind? But reach out to him and talk with him about what he said that night. I hope that he's had enough time to figure things out and I sincerely wish the hope and the best of luck to you and your sister.

My mom told me that my heard this song he burst into tears because it reminded him how much he loved having two little girls. When we were kids and our patents tucked us in we gave him butterfly kisses on his cheek. The sad part about my story about my dad, he never got to watch his little girls grow up and never walked my sister down the aisle when she married her husband.
